A 30 year old who served 3 years in the Israeli army, A Chinese business women, a Teachers Assistant from France and two mostly drunk and ignorant Canadians. It sounds like the start of a bad and probably racist joke but it is a description of the inhabitants of #4 Beechwood Grove. Things are looking up in every way not related to teaching children. Mitch and I attended a potluck supper with really smart translation masters students, we participated in a night of extreme hedonism at a school boy and girl themed party at the university (I'll spare you the details, all thats important is no one got hurt), we took salsa dancing lessons with the Leeds University Christian Union, We watched as a van destroyed our neighbour's 400 year old brick fence (the van belonged ... read more

So remember when I mentioned those research seminars that all go to the pub after the building staff kicks them out of their seminar room? I went to my first one on Wednesday -- it was one of the coolest things I have ever done. I went to the talk given by Cassandra Pybus -- which was completely amazing. She's from the University of Tazmania, but her focus (currently) is slaves who went over to the British side during the American Revolution, and where they subsequently went when they were granted their freedom. From what I heard about the topic, I am going to get the book as soon as it comes out, and I would suggest you all read it too -- its called Epic Journeys. Forthcoming... Stonehenge rocks! -British Heritage Society Beyond the simple sarcasm denoted above, it really does rock. 7000-5000 years back, giant stones had been brought from a "magical forest" 150 miles away in Wales, which was an unbelievable distance at that time, for it was done completely manually, without any real advanced system of technology. The stones which each weigha few tons were erected in circular fashion to create a temple/calendar/powerful throne. The thing is, there is a lot of mystery to stonehenge because there is no written history ANYWHERE about stonehenge, and why is was built, for whom it was built, whether for a religion, for a god, for a calendar, or whether simply as a way to prove their tribe as the most powerful and resourceful tribe around. So archeologist collectively blow their loads when they ... read more

Hello All!! Sorry it's been awhile since I've added anything onto my blog. I've been kind of busy lately and the thing is I don't even know what to add to this blog. I guess I can start with my trip back to Camden Town, where I only spent about ten pounds. On that trip we ventured back to Trafalger Square and continued on to Kensington Palace/Park (where Princess Diana and Charles lived at one point in time). This one girl that went with us, Amy, was trying to feed the ducks and geese(?Not sure of the type of bird) they were so viscous! They kept chasing her around the park, it was hilarious!! We then went to Harrods, biggest department store in Europe. That place was AMAZING, if I had a hundred million pounds it ... read more

DAD! I texted you and invited you to meet us in Vietnam, but no answer! Am I to take this to mean that you're thinking about? That's how I'm going to take it. Okay, so meet us in Hanoi and we'll take it from there. Good that's settled then. Any other takers? This week's a bit better since I've been doing longer hours. Sounds ridiculous I know, but at least I'm not as stressed. 8 weeks 3 1/2 days.... read more

Well yet again I find myself at an internet facility that denies me of my right to share my photos. So bad luck for all of you. Meanwhile, though I'm currently staynig with a Couchsurfing host (the first of what I intend to be many! :) in central Manchester. She's really nice and I pretty much have the flat to myself most of the time- so far. I'm getting well-keen for Em Dee on Sunday night! (The reason I came here in the first place- a didgeridoo pilgrimage! :) And I'm about to go to a conference at the library on how to manage a band! From what I've seen so far, Manchester is a pretty cool place! Pity it's so damn cold!... read more

So this morning was pretty mellow, until someone was cooking in one of the downstairs flats and set the fire alarm off.....for 15 minutes!!! Granted we are the last flat in a back corner and it takes a few minutes for people from reception to get to us and shut it off. Silly boys....they left their kitchen door open while they were cooking. Our smoke detectors are in the middle of the flat (in the hallway) so if you shut the kitchen door then the fire alarm shouldn't go off. Although apparently some people smoke cigarettes in their room, which they're not supposed to, and that also sets the fire alarm off. It's so irritating! Plus smoking in your room is absolutely disgusting....you smell like cigarettes all the time. Yuck! So there it is....the morning of ... read more

So, sorry about not puttig up all the posts I promised. Last weekend Jay and I hiked up Sir Arthur's Seat. It's basically a big rock formation/big hill in Edinburgh. It's the highest point and from the top you can see the whole city. It was a lot of fun. Up top it was incredibly windy. In fact all of Edinburgh is extremely windy. Apparently it's called the windy city of Europe. Edinburgh has been great. I forget if I already posted my courses, but they are: Several Variable Calculus, Economics of Developing Countries, Economic Transformation of East Asia, and Italian I. All of the courses are with regular University students (ie, not visiting students only). Both of the econ courses are taught by the same professor. I have no classes on Friday. And every other ... read more
