Someone finally gave Buff correct information about the Dr. Who Museum. It's in Blackpool, England and rather than stop in Liverpool we are going to Blackpool. Little did we know how popular a town it is, especially on a weekend. It's a seaside resort town sort of like Santa Cruz or Venice Beach times 100! Shops to buy everything and anything. Beach and wharfs along the Western coast of England. Hotel after hotel, and B&Bs, self-catering cotttages - 3,500 of them it turns out. Restaurant after restaurant. Even it's own version of the Eiffel Tower. We walked and walked and walked and walked and walked and walked (we had a map of the town center that we never even got to) but finally heard that distinctive music of Dr. Who. We made it! Had to drag ... read more

Since I absolutely must do laundry, mainly because visiting clubs and pubs and such are all smokey that my clothes smell absolutely disgusting, I am in the process of completing this task. And in scoping out the laundry situation, which is pretty cool since it's out the door and 2 steps to the left, the cost of laundry is amazing. At Santa Cruz laundry is $1.25 to wash and $.75 to dry. Well, here it's 1.60 quid and 60p, respectively. So double it and that's what it would be in the US, approximately. Ahh! Well since I don't really have a choice....laundry it is. The cool thing though is that it's the exact same machines as at SC which makes it a lot easier to understand. Beyond the whole laundry issue, I went over to Rutland ... read more

For starters, Melanie got a cell phone (aka mobile in British) and can be reached at any time at 011-44-789-632-7626 (where 011 is to call out of the states, 44 is England's Code, and the 789... part is here actual cellie number) Please call us, it'd make our days. Anyways, here's the blawg. Hey all, I'm not doing too poorly on the blogging front am I? Its good to hear back from many of you, GI, JayLev, 811 girls (mmmmm, Garlic and Onions, and Rice-n-beans Rice-n-beans), London, Dad, Edi, Gainesium, and everyone else. It seems like me writing in this journal is fun for all, whoopie, and so I shall continue. We are now in London Proper, uhn. We did the full-on-American-style-tourist-picture-taking-tube-taking-river-crossing-museum-seeing-chip-eating thing all in one long beautiful day yesterday. The weather in London was just ... read more

PSA: If I dated this entry appropriately - September 20 - it would get posted behind the most recent entries. So, I'll leave the date as 27 September. But, let me take you back to Monday and Tuesday of last week... Well, today is International Talk Like a Pirate Day. In honor of that, I decided to spend my last day near and around The Thames. Specifically, from St. Paul's to the Tower of London - and great spots in between. I started my last morning in London in Shepherd's Market in Mayfair - right behind my hotel. An amazingly cool, and atmospheric, little corner of London that I adore. Grabbed a coffee at a snappy little chain called Cafe Nero. Whereas Starbucks is generically American/Seattle-ish no matter where you are on the globe; Cafe Nero ... read more

Motorhome News from Europe 37. Scotland 21st September 2005 A Royal Welcome to The Highlands. The final leg of our journey through Europe. John O'Groats, Dunnett Head, The Castle of Mey, Lairg, Ullapool, Kinlochewe, Skye, Fort William and The English Lakes There is a strange fascination with mountain-tops, places of legend and mystery and various ends of the earth that us Britons find difficult to resist. One such extremity is John O’Groats. Having arrived back on the Scottish mainland by ferry from Orkney rather late in the evening, we chose to stop at the nearest and most convenient campsite, a mile or two from the ferry, and probably the worst campsite experienced since we left home on the 1st June. Welcome home to the British mainland! Contrary to popular belief - and mine too, John O’Groats ... read more

Today I need to keep repeating to myself, '9 weeks and 2 days, 9 weeks and 2 days.' They're driving me bloody mental here at the moment. I've got a bloody shed load of cataloguing to do, and somebody thought handing out pamphlets for an hour would be a better use of my time this afternoon. That's bad enough, but there wasn't even anyone to hand them out to!!! In other news, for lunch I had Singapore Fried Rice which appeared to contain Spam, and a testicle. So it's all good here.... read more

So, last night I went to Ocean for Funked Up @Ocean which was really fun. I met up with a bunch of friends (ie John, Ruth, Steph, Kiera, and Becky) and I met a few new freshers at the bar before hand. It was really really fun. They had a live band and a pretty good DJ playing. The band was "Invaders from Planet Funk" and they mostly covered other songs but they were really good for what they did, I thought. It was thus a very late night but that's ok because I slept in until about 11:30am which I'm sure Erin and Erika are proud of because they were notorious for that on the weekend, hehe. Then this morning I worked on further figuring out what modules (classes) I was going to take which ... read more

I MADE IT! I actually stayed in one of the incredibly long place names England has to offer! Unfortunately, it doesn't have photo access to offer, so this little texty entry will have to suffice. I'm staying with Alaya's auntie Debbie (who is REALLY cool!) at the moment and Alaya should be arriving today. LOTS of job prospects arising in Scotland! mmmm... :)... read more

Had the first of our Rabies shots on Saturday. Went the whole day feeling fine, our arms weren't even sore. Then at about 6 or so I started feeling a bit off, and then next thing you know I was throwing up! Missed out on one of Rémy's dinners (BOO) and felt rank all weekend. I hope the next two don't have the same effect. Stuart didn't feel a thing! Typical. Rémy's announced that he and his girlfriend are moving in together. Lovely for them, crappy for us! We had such a good flat! Oh well, Stuart and I were about to break it up anyway, so we can't really be upset with him. Still, it would've been good to have him there 'til the end. Anita's doing dinner on Sunday night so we can drown ... read more
