WOOOOOOOOOO - This place is awesome - Edinburgh is one seriously cool Old Skool town. It's filled with heaps of wicked Gothic buildings and Castles and has a awesome atmosphere with heaps of young peolpe. Me and Russ took a couple of days off work and cruised to Edinburgh to chill with Tim and Sam. It was awesome to catch up. We had a couple of wicked nights out on the town, checked out the city, played with some mean fireworks (roman candle battles - yeah) and enjoyed the scottish accents. We loved this place so much that we are thinking of living there for a couple a months some time soon. This is a big blog dudes, including a bit of London Stuff. I checked out my first big football game (cheers Bonesy) which was ... read more

Day 2 of Macbackpackers! Pretty interesting.. Our first stop was at the Culloden Battle Grounds. This is where the scottish and British had a civil war. We then tried to go Dolphin and seal watching but to no avail, none to be seen! We then stopped for some of that whiskey filled hot chocolate and then off for a little nature walk. After that, we spent the rest of our time around Lochness where we stopped and learned about the Scottish kelt and life around 400 years ago. We came back to the hostel and then went for dinner with our tour guide at Backfriars. Everyone was trying sheep intestines, but i decided to back out haha. After dinner a band was playing scottish music and some people even learned a scottish jig. I honestly will ... read more

Today was a pretty entertaining day. We left the hostel around 9 am to go to the Tower of London and the Tower Bridge. I have to admit while some things were boring to go back to, I was really excited about coming back here. The bloody tower was closed last year, but open this time, and I really didn't spend much time here. We spent a good 3 hours between the Tower and the bridge. Jenn was harassing a big old raven, I thought for sure it was going to bite her! Our passes got us in free to both places, and up to the catwalks of the Tower Bridge, so we were able to walk across the very top! Once we finished, we headed in the direction of the London Dungeons - something I ... read more

Coming from a family that has always had strong connections with railways, I have always had an interest in trains from being a small child. Therefore I suppose it was only natural that I would always have a fascination about what it would be like to travel on the world's longest railway journey, the 'Trans-Siberian'. This was probably fueled in the last few years by watching with envy the travels of Michael Palin in his many BBC TV programmes taking unusual journeys across the globe. The 'Trans-Siberian Railway' is a working railway and in fact one of the busiest in the world for both passengers and freight across the entire length of Russia. At this stage lets dispel the myth that there is an actual train called the 'Trans-Siberian Express'. The Trans-Siberian is a railway and ... read more

Having said my farewells to all (including Jasper and Rory), I waved Morpeth goodbye and set off on my travels. I'm afraid all I can say about the car journey to Glasgow was that it was wet! A typical grey, wet and miserable winters day. It made me laugh, cos sitting in the car Dad turned to me and said "just think you're leaving this all behind for sunshine"....little did he know that when I landed in Brisbane there was torrential rain and days earlier they had experienced a crazy hail storm! Ok, it was raining but the temperature and humidity was slightly different to the UK, so no complaints from me. Anyway, as for the bit in between....the flight literally flew by (pun intended!). I really do think this is were my luck began. I ... read more

At last I've mastered the world of computers (I know I say this every time)! I know its simple and you just follow the instructions but computers and I have occassional, ok frequent, disagreements (and I'm sure one day they will rule the world!). Anyway, for those of you who are interested here's my story so far..... For those of you who don't know, I'm now in NZ and it's amazing! Why? Not quite sure myself! How? By plane! For those of you who know me well, you'll know that I get restless and itchy feet every few years. So, the years passed and it was time for a new adventure (I've never liked the easy life!). Well this time I decided that the uni option was just plain silly for the following reasons: 1) I ... read more

Well since returning from Spain I've been flat out but not really anything to exciting. Lucky me had to get a wisdom tooth pulled out and because I couldn't find anywhere to do it immediately I had to go to a teaching hospital but, oh well it was free. I got to experience my first AFL grandfinal in a dark pub at 4.30 in the morning. I've on many occasions stayed up that late in a pub but I must say I never actually gotten out of bed that early to go to a pub. It was interesting. Crowds of drunk Aussies with smatterings of other nationalities all squeezed into one room. I really missed the good old grandfinal BBQ that day. But it was all good seeing West Coast lost. Straight after grandfinal I was ... read more
