YAY PHOTOS NOW! Well hidy ho diddly diddlers from sunny Scotland. Yep Sunny. I think we must have brought it with us from Oz. Well its been a big week since my last update, apart from the fact that half the time we have needed to use matchsticks to keep our eyes open after getting up for work at 5:30am every morning and not getting til after 7:15pm we also have had some extra curricular activity. Friday night was supposed to be another HUGE night out at a local bowlie. Turned out to be a bit of a fizzer, not many people, but our band mate Nige played for us anyways and we made the best of a funny situation. Now, if I hadn’t physically seen Loch Ness myself the last time I was here… ... read more

Well Easter's arrived, I've survived a Scottish winter. Despite being repeatedly told it was a very very mild winter, I felt sufficiently cold enough to require wearing an entire wardrobe of clothes a day. With the weather warming, forecast looking promising Anna, Fergus and myself decided to head to highlands for an Easter camping break. Upon making this decision there was a rapid purchase of tent, camping stove, sleeping bag and inflatable mattress…..kneel and pray to the ebay Gods! We set of on Saturday after a brief stay in Stirling, heading toward an increasingly dark cloud, which apparently was exclusively extended over Arisaig, west coast of Scotland, on the Road to the Isles. Set up our sparkling blue tent, glad that despite being a 4 person tent, there was only two of us a dog. We ... read more

Well I just got back from a two day trip up to Loch Ness. It's really picturesque (sp?) up there. The mountains, the loch, the castles, the crazy hostel with funny characters and weird encounters. It was a great time. I took the train up to Inverness with a free pass that Fee gave me and then a quck bus to the little village of Lewiston right next to the Loch. I got a deal on the hostel I stayed in now that I'm in the "industry". It was good being back with civilization after spending 10 days in the hills with not to many people to talk to but the sheep (Trust me, everyone talks to the sheep up here.) The weather was fantastic the first day and then crap the next day. Oh well. ... read more

Sean and I went to Loch Ness on his last day here, Saturday. We took a guided tour that went up the western part of the island to the loch and then down the middle in one day. We left at 8 in the morning and we were pretty tired as we had been out the night before. But we weren't the most tired people and some kid fell asleep before we even started to leave. The tour guide was some young guy who was kind of annoying but knew a lot of good stuff. We stopped at a bunch of places on the way there including Glencoe, the place where the highland clans supposedly died out after a big fight between two clans and the end of highland hospitality. It's kind of complicated so I'm ... read more

The Lochness Monster Europe » United Kingdom » Scotland » Loch Ness By KellybellyFebruary 24th 2007Kelly HowardI have officially met the home of Lochness Monster, and Nessie herself. The international Society plans trips on the weekends. I decided why not go on one. Well, we went to Inverness and Loch Ness for maybe 3 hours outside the bus, adn 8.5 hours inside a bus. I have never been more nauseated in a vehicle! It was a terrible drive, but we made the best out of it. of course, it was beautiful.... read more

Woke up to a great view out the window. Went on the road again (most of the roads we are going on are small and only fit for one way traffic which is really great, no highways at all so the view from the bus is always spectacular. Stopped off just down the road to look at a cliff with hexagonal rocks. Beautiful day today all day, was very uncommon for Skye so made the most of it. More little stops, then we went for another big hour long walk up a hill (i think im getting a little bit fit here) with good views, but ground here is so muddy and soft because of the rain it talkes double the effort. Had a bit of a slip and got some fairly muddy pants to got ... read more

This one is to say Merry Christmas, thank you for reading the blog. As I said I'll be returning to Australia in January, the 18th, Hogmany in Glasgow, and 5 days in London first, so hope to catch up with a good few people then. Should be a Melbourne City guide in my Christmas Stocking. Lots more photos on the blog as you may of noticed, not all that great, I'm not much of a photographer and most occasions I forget to take the damn thing with me. Did leave my address book, mobile, diary in London so slight problem contacting peoples this holiday, oops. robinmaclean@yahoo.co.uk Merry Christmas!... read more

Hi all, We have been in Inverness since last night - well about 3:30 pm yesterday, which is actually after sunset, so technically it's night! Our accomodation here is not quite as nice as in Edinburgh. We have a private twin room, but have to share a bathroom (next door) with a few other rooms, but haven't had to wait to use it yet. In Edinburgh, we stayed in a newly refurbished hostel, so all the fittings were almost brand new and our private triple room had an ensuite bathroom and a little table and chairs to sit at. We wanted to go to the Inverness Museum and Art Gallery today as it was raining lightly but steadily in the morning and looked as though it would continue all day (it did!). When we arrived there ... read more

Singapore was a great refresh, sitting out in the steamy gardens, then getting a nice long hot shower. Then the long flight back to London, 14 hours, ouch, over India, Iran, Cental Europe etc, had a scare when the entertainment was not working but they got it fixed, after all if the entertainment system is not working, think of the other things that could go wrong. Touched down back at Heathrow at 5am, the earliest Heathrow would let us, and was delighted to see things had not changed, due to staff shortages the ticket office at the underground was not to be manned that morning, brilliant. Made my way in the early stages of rush hour to Gatwick, hung around there for ages in fatigued daze, then got my short Easyjet flight up to chilly Inverness ... read more
