So here we are guys! Our final week in Liverpool after spending a whole 4 months in one place. Fair effort from our point of view, as we seem to be getting into a wee bit of a habit lately of moving around every 4 or so days - difficult when you try and keep up with doing your washing. We have worked our butts off for a long time now and I can honestly say, yes, it is time for us to pull ourselves out of our comfort zones again and get back to our favourite way of life (NOTE: where the entirity of it is on your back). So this is us guys in blog form. It is through this that I can keep you updated on where we explore during the next 2 ... read more

Wednesday August 22 – to Friday August 24 - Liverpool I arrived safely Tuesday evening and have been exploring Liverpool since. I'm pretty wore out at the minute but have found my way around and the locations of things. Liverpool is quite an impressive place. I took the 500 bus to Lime Street Station from my hostel. When I got off the 500 bus next to Lime Street Station I was really impressed. The station and St George Hall as well as several other buildings really were massive structures and the last time I recall feeling so impressed was when I came out into the Mall at Washington DC. The 500 bus is the one that goes to the Airport and back but you can stick your hand out at a bus stop and it will ... read more

August 21- Tuesday Belfast to Liverpool - Today I got up early and called a cab using the “taxi phone” in the hostel. I was going to take the Stena Lagan which departed at 1030 and arrived in Liverpool at 1830. Everyone told me I needed to get there at 9 for a 10:30 departure and so I did. I bought my ticket and went through the usual “security” stuff and then sat in an enclosed area till boarding time. It wasn’t such a bad thing as they had Wi-Fi and so I “registered” so I could access the internet. They always want us to give out email address and register before we can access their services. So I used the same pseudo email user name (Mortimer Snurd) and email address MS@Yahoo.com that I had used ... read more

For sister-in-law Carla's birthday, the family decided to celebrate over several days. Not the 'just go out and get pissed'kind of celebration but ‘let's do stuff first then think about going out to get pissed' kind!! On the Friday, Roisin, Carla, Kate (their mum) and Auntie Eve spent the day at Kilhey Court spa resort. The brochure states that Kilhey Court is set amidst stunning countryside. Now that is their first fatal error! The Rockies is stunning. The view across Hong Kong harbour is stunning. Even the Australian outback is stunning. This Spa and Beauty Club; this haven of peace and serenity is on the outskirts of Wigan!!! Hardly a UNESCO heritage site!! No, a rewrite is definitely in order. If the brouchure read: ‘…set amidst ‘nice' countryside or ‘pleasant' countryside…' then it would be more ... read more

I woke up the next morning to loud banging at our apartment door. After John yelling at me to answer, I finally rolled off of the couch I was sleeping on (I didn’t even think of the option of someone else answering the door) to see who it was. It turned out that none of us had set alarms at all, and that we were supposed to have checked out an hour earlier. I told the woman that we would be out soon, and we all fell asleep again. Eventually, we all got up and turned back in our keys. After the slow morning, it was time to be productive. I lead everyone back to Albert Dock and to the Beatles museum. While they explored the museum, which I had already been to, I explored the ... read more

Tuesday, May 22nd, my friends and I planned to go to Liverpool. I had an exam that morning, so I got up early to study and went to Oxford Circus to sit my exam. I felt that it went well, and I ended with plenty of time to get to the train station. It was a really nice feeling to be totally done with school! I was pretty excited to meet my friends and get on with the train ride. John, Hollie, Adrienne, and Sam all got there on time for our train, but we all split up really fast to find some food. We ran on the train with about a moment to spare after we all found each other- we wouldn’t want to start a trip without a little adrenaline rush. We were still ... read more

It is my final night in Liverpool and I am packing up my room. It’s been a hard day wandering around the city seeing places that hold so many memories. Last week I finished teaching and had to hold back the tears. My year 10s bought me a card and they all signed it. I told them I would miss them all and one boy spoke up, “Don’t worry Miss, you will be back. You are a true Scouser at heart.” This is perhaps the greatest compliment I have ever been given (a Scouser is someone from Liverpool). Another girl came to speak to me after class thanking me for everything. She told me that I mean a lot to her. What I couldn’t find the words to say was just how much she meant to ... read more

Hello everyone, It’s been awhile since my last post. I am currently in my full-time student teaching, so I am very busy. The month of March has been a bit more challenging for me. Even though I am in another country (and loving being here) I am still trying to have a very successful student teaching placement. They warned us that student teaching was going to be a draining semester and I am discovering that it doesn’t matter where you are in the world; it is a major time commitment. I find myself laying in bed thinking about ideas I could incorporate in a lesson. As I walk around the city, I now keep a paper and pen with me so I can jot down any ideas that may come to mind. But, for the most ... read more

Last day in Dublin included a very solemn visit to Kilmainham goal. The trip out there was with a very interesting taxi driver, he talked a lot about the problems in Dublin in the past and now. Kilmainham is where the leaders of the 1916 easter uprising were held and executed. Depending on who you talk to in Dublin they are either heros - and the men who led to the free state or men who really weren't supported until the british brought in the notorious black and tans. Everyone seems to have a view on this, nationalism and politics are constant topics. For Kasey the highlight was the horse and carriage ride. It was mothers day here on sunday, so I get two this year! We had lunch at a great pub over towards trinity ... read more
