My first week here isn't even over and I have already had some interesting adventures to say the least lol...met a lot of people, seen a lot of things...some a little more intense than others but still! It is for sure a different culture, however there is a big possibility that I may never want to leave :( just kidding...kind of.. I wish I wouldn't have waited so long to write this, because I'm sure I'm going to forget some things, but there are quite a few things that stick out. I've taken a fair amount of naps in between seminars and meals STILL trying to get over jet lag...my body isn't havin it quite yet, then again I've gotten more sleep than some of the girls on our trip. First of all...I think I'm going ... read more

I honestly can't express the excitement I had earlier today when our plane landed in Manchester... I didn't know if we would ever actually make it here, and here we are!!! The plane ride did seem like forever though, and it was impossible to get comfortable :/ However once we got off the plane, it was smooth sailing :) After being transported by bus to our terminal, we went through probably the fastest customs known to mankind, which was awesome...after loading some vans to be transported to Liverpool, we kept gasping because we kept thinking our driver was driving on the wrong side of the road....wurrdurh. The people here have been so generous and kind since we have arrived here! Our host, Paul Cowell, took us out to the Caldwell Abbey Pub (which btw, has been ... read more

We had a pretty tense start to our weekend in Liverpool with our friends Kate and Mal. Kate got caught up in a tube disruption and had to jump in a cab at Vauxhall and burn across central London to Euston Station in rush hour. The rest of us had nearly written off being able to make the train but standing on the ramp to the concourse we spotted Kate, tickets in hand, running down the ramp. We jumped on the train and moments later it pulled out. Whew! Just in the nick of time. The train ride up was good fun and like everyone else we had a couple bottles of wine. It was a Friday night so all good and it felt like no time at all before we pulled into Lime Street Station ... read more

LIVERPOOL Day 95 and 96 I made it to Liverpool and was a little tired so I got some dinner and had an early night. The next day I went for a walk around Liverpool. It was interesting to see all the places I had visited nearly 9 years earlier. I think that being so close to Ireland and after all of the headaches the last few weeks my mind is already back with my friends in Dublin. I am so excited to get back and spend some time with them before I go back to Canada. My heart and mind have ended this trip so I just need to get my body back to Dublin to join the rest of me. ... read more

Ready to Go! I'm sitting here all packed and ready to go! Thought I would try this out to see how it works, and hopefully get the hang of it tonight! After much wait (and a bloody Volcanic Eruption!) we are hopefully going to be on our way tomorrow. The next time I'll write here I'll hopefully be in some exotic location - woo! :)... read more

As soon as we arrived here we knew that we had made a big mistake! We had only allowed one night here instead of 4! We had to decide quickly what we wanted to do as we only had one afterrnoon and one morning. To see where the Beatles had lived and how they got inspired was it. We got on the bus and our first visit was to Paul's childhood home and then onto John's. It was amazing to see where they grew up and where they wrote some of their songs! Onto Strawberry Fields. Only the gates remain and they were completely covered in messages to the Beatles by their fans. It looks like it may get repainted but the fans persist and rewrite on them. Then onto the church hall where Paul and ... read more

Wednesday 23.12.2009 Day 69 Liverpool- Beatles It snowed again last night and the place looks fantastic with all the snow around. We decided to go to Liverpool to see the Beatles. I wanted to put on Beatle songs on the way but did not have any on my Ipod so I put on Paul McCarthy and Wings songs. We drove all around but did not see any Beatles not even a Tomas the tank engine or even anything that is named in there songs. We considered going to the entomology department of the Liverpool uni as we drove past it to see if they could tell us where the beetles are. After we gave up we went McDonalds and used their free internet. ... read more

Love Liverpool - every time I go it gets better If anyone is going to Liverpool, now is the right time, there is so much going on. And loads of international events, music and its really Christmas over there now. They have a big wheel in the town and markets, its pretty cosmoplitian. We going over for work reasoons, but the shpping is amazing and its so much better than I ever remember. So cheap too - I've found a great place to stay called Roscoe house its - http://www.apartments-liverpool.co.uk/serviced-apartments-liverpool/roscoe-house-by-urban-chic/ - there's not enough photos to show it off on here but its less than €50 a night for your own apartment free wifi and in the centre of town really love Liverpool!!!... read more

24 hour Liverpudlian Adventure Being a fan of the Beatles, my friend Alma and I decided to go to Liverpool for a weekend since the National Express tickets were only 12GBP return. The ride to Liverpool took about 5 hours from London, left London at 8am and got there at 1pm for our adventure. It rained the whole time we were there, and because we were travellers on budget, we WALKED to our B&B. It took one hour. I'll take exercise anyway I can. Once at the B&B, Paul, the guy who worked there gave us tips on the bus system and how to find Penny Lane, which was a short bus ride away. He also gave us the general direction on how to find Paul McCartney's old house, but because it gets dark early, we ... read more

I arrived in Liverpool Thursday around lunch time and after answering about 100 questions about why I was visiting the UK, I took the bus to my friend's apartment. It was SO nice to hear and speak English! I could actually understand what passerbyers were saying.. It was a refreshing break, although Liverpoolians (yeah I made that up) are a little but hard to understand. I met Maria in the Outer Banks through our random roommate from Virginia.. She's actually from Cyprus (an Island off of Greece), so visiting her in the UK was also a small taste of what Cyprus is like because all her friends in Liverpool are also from Cyprus. On the first day, we didn't do too much because I was exhausted from lack of sleep! She had pasta ready for me ... read more
