Hello everyone, Update from the farm... I am in Morton which is a small town outside of Liverpool city and the place I am staying is called Barnacre. There are so many words to describe this place but a few include chaotic, crazy, strange, tough, dirty, wet, muddy... and AMAZING haha! This place is so much fun, we work hard during the day and play hard in the evening. I am involved in what has been called, and documented by the BBC, the largest eco friendly self sustaining self build in all of the U.K. Russell and Helen Kenan and their four children have opened their home and their way of life to helpers all around the world in order to achieve such a monumental project. I have arrived towards the end of the build in ... read more

I like Liverpool. I’ve only been a couple of times but the place always seems so friendly and the buildings so elegant. It’s the exact opposite of the picture that Brookside painted all those years ago. Some of the Liverpool stereotypes do live up to the billing though; Liverpool never fails to show us, in abundance, locals that use phrases like ‘ay’, ‘erm’ and ‘calm down’, to the point where someone shouted ‘ay’ across the street before we had even parked. We were here, in keeping with the theme, to visit the famous Cavern Club, but before that we decided to grab some cheap food in the local Wetherspoons. While in there, we watched the majority of the Champions League final where Manchester United got well and truly beaten, much to the delight of the Liverpudlians. ... read more

Okey Dokey. This is a long, long story of our WHOLE journey, so listen up and get some popcorn. When we first got to England we settled down in Liverpool at a friends house for afew days, then we went to London. On that first day we went to Camden Markets and I got a new pair of shoes and a hat. On the second day we went to St.Pauls Cothedral, and listened to the churchy boys sing a song, well half of one anyway. Then we went on a Jack The Ripper Tour! The next day we went to Cornwall, which is at the end of England! We stayed at a YHA and met some people there. A guy from Spain, another from Nottingham and One from somewhere in England. The first night we went ... read more

Yet again it has been a few weeks since we posted. We have had good intentions and I have started out a number of times, only to have the time swallowed up by something else. But I have to admit that a large part of the reason for our slackness is that we really haven't been doing too much of the normal touristing things. That and the fact that a lot of our available writing time is taken up trying to sort out the material that we have gathered on our family history, most of which is not going to be of great interest to others. First we had better fill in the facts. We are now in Wales. We spent a week or so in Yorkshire, two weeks using a farm in Stafford as a ... read more

Liverpool! Honestly, Liverpool was less than pretty. One of our friends told us that it was the second most bombed city in England during World War II because there was a navy base nearby. Which means that a lot of the buildings are newer. The, pardon me, ugly buildings that were hastily erected are straight, boxy, and grayish white. Eck. Some of the older buildings did survive, but I guess I still wasn't that impressed with the city as a whole. Am I being too critical? Maybe, but we have seen some really beautiful cities and Liverpool doesn't really compare. However, Allie and I were already aware that we probably weren't going to be struck speechless with awe and wonder at the amazing architecture of the city. We actually went because we wanted to see a ... read more

We came to Liverpool to get ferry to isle of Man. Steam Packet's ferry nice impressed us, vessel was well cared and weren't so overcrowded as some ferries that I experienced during English Channel cruises. That vessel really surprised us because we felt confortable and weren't overwhelmed. Was really Ok. I have pirate spirit and during cruises I'm spending most of time outside (if possible) to take a breath sea air and fell free. I did the same that time as well and I was standing at the poop and I was taking a pictures. Pawel accompanied me and together we wondered what we might expect at the destination. We admired immensity of the sea and I felt respect for sailors from previous centuries whose hadn't used modern stuff even to define where they are currently. ... read more

Liverpool has been a lovely surprise. If asked about Liverpool before starting our trip I would have described it as an old, industrial, shipping city and home of the Beatles. Wouldn't have planned to spend much time here. Because it is close to where we get our canal boat it was a good stopover place so added it to our schedule. As I started reading about it in Lonely Planet: England it sounded more intriguing. It has turned out to be a very pleasant surprise. Many old buildings with lots of history and some areas that look neglected, but also a significant urban renewal with a large section of the downtown a large, open walking mall and shopping area and the docks renovated with numerous shops, restaurants and museums. A lot to see. Our first day ... read more

We spent a day in Hoek van Holland returning the van and organizing all our luggage. We have way more than we need. Brought several things like bedding for the RV and bicycle helmets that we haven't needed and have bought some things along the way plus have a few non-perishable food items we are taking with us to the canal boat. It is a good thing we didn't bring the bikes to England with us. We would never be able to manage train changes. The ferry ride to Harwich, UK was very enjoyable. Beautiful weather, a smooth ride, and a new ferry that was very very nice. We arrived in Harwich around 8:00 PM and then needed to take a train to Norwich (about a 1 ½ hour train ride with one train change). Luckily ... read more

We are now in Liverpool, hometown of the Beatles and according the population, the greatest Football team ever Liverpool FC. Before Liverpool, we stayed in Manchester for 2 nights. Manchester was way under my expectation. I was expecting a vibrant city were all that matter is Football and you get it you can see England flags everywhere and there is an intense ManU fever, but other than that, there is not much. The city centre is in massive construction, they are renovating almost every street at the same time and lots of building. Do you know what? The city workers are working the weekend. As many tourists being told, the nightlife is fantastic. I have to admit, it’s true. There is a great underground scene and great party atmosphere. Other than that there is not much ... read more
