Hi-Ho, Liz here. Pia and I have grown tired of writing in the Royal 'We', so we'll be doing solo entries from now on. Sigh. Le Divorce. But we still like each other! Really. Anyway, we're staying in London at the moment, packing more into every day than I thought was humanly possible. It's so expensive to stay here that we've condensed our visit to a mere three days -- We're hella-busy. Lots-o-London * "Saw" changing of the guards. (Actually mostly saw backs of strangers' heads). * Used luxury toilet in Harrods. Also saw scupture of fish made of butter. Also gazed longingly upon "Chocolate Bar" Cafe. * Museums - Tate Modern, National Gallery. * Waded through pigeons in Tralfagar Square. * Met scary French man who tried to kiss us both (narrow escape). * Went ... read more

Thanks (or ta) for all of the comments, I think we've finally got it figured out now! Tomorrow will be our last day working in London. Our Aussies are throwing us a goodbye party on Saturday night and we're going to Buckingham Palace on Sunday morning for one last sight seeing opportunity. The next blog will hopefully be coming to you from a sunny beach in southern Portugal! Peace and Love, Andrea and Liz... read more

Once again I was up at the crack of dawn. 8:30 is early for a lazy student! Walked to the tube to catch a train to the Tower of London. It was very interesting and I still am in shock that I got to see the crown jewels. There was an extreme amount of glitter and glam in one room. It was off to St Paul's church for the rest of the afternoon. I have been many churches in Europe, but I have never seen a ceiling sparkle like this one. The ceiling is done in a Byzantine style, irregular pieces of glass set at angles, and the ceiling sparkles from every direction. The crypt downstairs is the largest crypt in Europe and when you walk in it goes on for an eternity. Amber and I ... read more

So sorry I havn't posted in a while. We've been pretty busy here. Last weekend we went with our roommates to Greenwich to the prime meridian and center of time. We also saw the Cutty Sark, and walked through the markets there. It was a cute, and quiet little place, which was a very nice break from central london. We also went to our first West End production last week. We saw "Jerry Springer, the Opera" Now, when you hear the name of it, it doesn't sound to impressive and some of you might be thinking why of all the great plays/operas in London would you choose to see that? Well, after talking to many box offices, we were talked into seeing it after hearing how great it is and how many awards it has recieved. ... read more

Woke up and headed out to the tube (this saved us an amazing amount of time!). We headed out to Oxford Street and that is trouble for two girls! I couldn’t believe all the nice stores this street had and I wish I had some money to go crazy. I don't think I could have afforded a sock at any of the places, except H&M (love that store)! We spent too much time looking around and exploring the streets. We ran into Leicester square and it was like a miniature New York. I think London has more to offer than New York and is a very diverse city. I think I heard every language possible spoken. The other strange thing about London is the weather changes every 5 mins. One sec we walking in the warm ... read more

I use to stare at my computer screen at work with its London back round and dream of the day I would be there! Well I made it! I spent three brilliant days in the city of London! The night before London I got a whole 2 hours of sleep. My friend Ben came over at 5 and we talked till it was time to go. He walked me over to Amber’s hall on the other side of campus and I was very glad I didn’t have to walk at 6am by myself! The taxi came and got us and we were off to the station! I slept the whole way on the train with my face in the tray in front of me. Amber and I were both face first in our trays and I ... read more

Hi everyone! I've had my first (and hopefully last) theft experience in London. There was a BUNAC (the visa program we went through) organized pub meet last night, and I had my jacket, and bag of work clothes stollen. I had some important receipts and keys to our flat in my coat, so it's going to be quite a hastle. I am going to have to pay at least $80 to have the keys re-made, and I'm going to have to check up on some of the receipts. I also now don't have a jacket, which isn't good at this time of year in London. Plus, I'm not sure what kind of trouble I'm going to get in at work for loosing my uniform. Other than this incident, we're still having a great time here. We ... read more

Every year in London, on the closest Saturday to Waitangi Day, all the Kiwi’s jump on the circle line tube and do a pub crawl. As the name suggests, the circle line runs in a circle and has 27 stations along its length. The aim of the game is to arrive at Westminster at 4pm, to all strip down and do the Haka in front of Big Ben. This year, the circle line was to be not operational on Saturday the 5th Feb, so it was decided that the crawl would be the weekend before. 29th Jan 2005. Official start time is 10:30am, and as usual, I was a touch behind with my 12pm start at Notting Hill. So Id missed 2 stops (beers) already, but from Notting Hill to Westminster, there are 8 stops, so ... read more
