Waitangi Day

Every year in London, on the closest Saturday to Waitangi Day, all the Kiwi’s jump on the circle line tube and do a pub crawl. As the name suggests, the circle line runs in a circle and has 27 stations along its length. The aim of the game is to arrive at Westminster at 4pm, to all strip down and do the Haka in front of Big Ben.
This year, the circle line was to be not operational on Saturday the 5th Feb, so it was decided that the crawl would be the weekend before. 29th Jan 2005.

Official start time is 10:30am, and as usual, I was a touch behind with my 12pm start at Notting Hill. So Id missed 2 stops (beers) already, but from Notting Hill to Westminster, there are 8 stops, so I didn’t think Id miss out.
I started the day with Dayna and Steph;
found Shaune at the first pub;
lost Steph at the second;
found 2 people from Keri High School at South Kensington, plus Cousin Mel;
picked up a mate from work at Victoria;
met another mate from work at Westminster;
found cousin Andy at Temple!

All in all, we didn’t get to every pub, not even every one between Notting Hill and Westminster. But over the 4 hours, managed to squeeze in 7 drinks. Missed the official Haka by 5 minutes, (saw the crowds, thousands of people), so went to the pub for a couple, then a handful of us did another one at 5pm. After doing the Haka, we made it to Temple Walkabout where I stayed until 2am!

An absolutely wicked (and expensive) day! Will be on time for that Haka next year.

CK here, butting in on Bazza's blog entry...he forgot to mention the highlight of the day... This is the night we hooked up :D And ruined each other's lives forever! ;P
