WEEK 3 Monday saw more searching online and applying for jobs, thankfully I got a call about one of the positions. They wanted me to go in the following day for an interview. I did this and it went well, and fortunately was rung up the next day and offered the role. The position is as a web administrator for Direct Line Insurance. I’m not entirely sure what this role entails yet, I think it will be similar to some of the work I was doing on the NZ Cricket website. The rest of my week was spent getting completely sh!tfaced. Well not really, I don’t have the cash at the mo to do a lot. I did have a few quiets that night though. Basically since then I have been getting ready for the job, ... read more

WEEK 2 Over the weekend I had checked out a flat in Canada Water, which is really close to London Bridge. A whole bunch of French guys had moved out and a kiwi couple (Andre & Lisa) from Dunedin had just moved in. They wanted someone to move in asap so it was perfect. I made the mission with all my gear during the middle of the day so there was hardly anyone around. I spent this week, applying for more jobs, checking out the new neighbourhood, and playing hours of electronic darts. I got quite a few calls about jobs but people call once and say they will get back to you but never do. It is a case of constantly tracking people down and checking up on progress. We also had a fourth flat ... read more

London - WEEK 1 After getting back from Menorca I was starting to run low on cash so I decided it was time to find a job. I decided that I should make the move from Barrow-In-Furness down to London and try my luck there. The night before I left the neighbours had a Guy Fawkes party so was good to say my farewells to all the locals and stuff my face with hot dogs. (Thanks to all of you in Rampside for making my stay so welcome) Anyway, I caught the train down to London and rolled into London Euston at about 6pm. This is when I realized that I had timed my arrival poorly as I needed to get across town at rush hour using the underground. This is bad enough without gear, but ... read more

Yes fans of the wandering Ginger, I've been stuck in the UK for far too long, there's this evil think called work which has been keeping me in the country (if you want me to leave more often, all monetary donations are gratefully accepted). But be cheered, I'm off on my travels very soon, so you can all catch up with my adventures to the Balkans in August. I'm sure this news has brightened your days. Well, someone has to. I bet you all can't wait, I know I can't!. Here's a photo to keep you all going in the mean time. ... read more

Well it sure was an adventure getting to Metrogate. First, I had to take the train from Kingston to Wimbleton, then take the Underground, which really didn't run much of the time underground, to Edgar Court (?) switch and Take another underground to Gloucester Road and then walk about 8 blocks to Metrogate! Fun stuff... I tried to put a pic in here but it didn't work...so look for that in the next edition. Then Jacqueline and I explored Kensington a bit went to Kensington Gardens, and had lunch there. Tons of pigeons flocked to us, and i think it was because of our food, not our looks! Then we walked around and went to Hyde Park and walked back to Metrogate. Metrogate is where I will be living for the next four monthes or so...then ... read more

Matt: Well as our second weekend comes to an end in London, I thought it might be a good chance to give you all an update of our adventures. Ed has passed out from exhaustion next to me, so I should be able to get to write this update without him butting in to tell me all the things that I have forgotten, embellished or just made up! My first week at work has been a little bizarre. After planning what I was going to wear for my security pass photo for weeks, I arrived at on my first day only to be told that the cleaner (who was sick) had gone home with the key to the security room, and I would have to wait until later in the week to have my photo taken. ... read more

I do admire the weather forecasters in England, if they predict rain, the are usually right and not only do they accurately predict that it will rain but if they tell you its going to start at 11am, four times out of five (my experience so far) they get the time correct as well. I didn't want to wander too far away from home today because of the forecast, so I again hit the tube and jumped on the Jubilee line to Canary Wharf (a five minute trip from here). My first impression of it was that it’s an ultramodern, thoroughly planned mini city though on arrival I though it lacked atmosphere, there were very few people on the streets and there was no traffic at all. It was only when I went back underground that ... read more

Well I had a good flight through to London and was ready to leave Egypt at this stage anyways. I arrived in London to be greeted by their perfect weather - a lovely summers day pouring with rain!!! I collected my bags and headed towards the doors after clearing customs, concentrating on thinking about what I had to do and finding an information desk to check which tube stations were open after the recent bombings, so that I could make my way to Matt & Vicky's house. I walked out of the doors and saw Vicky and Matt standing there with my name on a sign with a picture of Australia on it!!!! I've never been so happy in my life!!! It was a great surprise and very appreciated!! I hadn't been looking forward to finding ... read more
