Upon arrival at Moorgate, we caught the Northern Line, and got off at Monument, which is the transfer point to Bank. We took the Docklands Light Railway on the direction of Greenwich and Lewisham. There were a lot of people on the train. We got off at the West India Quay. The leaflet of the Museum of Docklands had a picture of the museum building, which was converted from the warehouses and it was on the doorstep of West India Quay station. Like the Museum of London, it was free to enter. We were directed to go up to the third floor, and were invited to stroll through the exhibition rooms where artefacts, treasures and documents belonging to the time of AD50-1600 were displayed. As expected, the Museum of Docklands showed us a wide range of ... read more

10 days of freedom I can't believe how fast it's all happened. Tomorrow is my 1 year mark of living in London and on Monday, I will be going back home to Canada. I'm grateful, and feel truly blessed to have been able to experience life in Europe, and in one of the biggest cities in the world to boot. I've learned SO much about myself, about others, and just about life in general that I KNOW I wouldn't have learned living within the familiarity of Toronto. Living in London.... I've learned that North America is NOT all there is, and outside of the east and west coast of Canada and the USA, no one really cares about the US. I've been spared from experiencing the Jersey Shore phenomenon, and have had the pleasure of watching ... read more

Well our amazing journey is coming to an end. We have been in London for a few days and done a lot of the tourist attractions ;-) Big Ben, Westminister Abby, Parliment, Buckingham Palace, Thames River, Tower of London and the Crown Jewels to name a few. One of the loveliest things was the exquisite Queen Victoria's crown. Diamonds everywhere, small and just beautiful. We happened to be in front of Buckingham Palace when the changing of the guard occurred. It was a beautiful day as the guards marched up the side of St. James Park and into the gated area in front of Buckingham Palace. There were so many people that it was hard to see, but just being there was so fun. We managed a shopping trip to Harrods, Dave and Cope were happy ... read more

London Marathon 2010 - 25.04.2010 The Virgin London Marathon's path comes through my neighbourhood. I was lucky enough then to just walk a few feet out my flat and take some amazing pictures, AND spot Virgin's BIG CHEESE, Sir Richard Branson. Here are the photos. Enjoy. On this birthday I contemplate on my accomplishments, failures, goals, dreams, lessons. This is by no means a 'Look what I can do, I am better than you type'; it's more of a 'today is a gift, that's why it's called the PRESENT' type of entry. Intrinsically capricorn-ish in nature, I was always one who saw the benefit of having goals and dreams, of planning for tomorrow and the rest of the future. Very contradictory in nature, I know just how much I've achieved in 28 years, but also feel it's NOT enough. Having moved to Europe, I look at the past few years with VERY different eyes, learning more about myself, and knowing better what I want. School-wise/Career-wise - Two post secondary attempts later, I find myself yearning to get into another. Social work this ... read more

The past 4 months have been an experience, to say the least. Teaching me things when I wasn't asking to be taught, per se. Just some notes I took 'in class'. - If you're comfortable, you're not growing - There is always room for improvement (especially when it comes to budgeting money) - A huge bag of rice for less than 5 GBP is a SWEET deal, especially since it's been 2 weeks, and it is not even CLOSE to being done - Looking 'young' for your age IS good, that is if people know your real age. Otherwise they really think you are THAT young. - Being underestimated is NOT a curse, it's an opportunity - Live your OWN dream, not your parents' - Cookie cutter jobs are for cookie cutter people - Make a ... read more

Masquerade!! Paper faces on parade! My flatmates and I decided, very last minute, about a week before Halloween, to throw a party. We sent out the invites on the Tuesday, I bought my costume on the Thursday, went shopping for the party on the Saturday afternoon, and had the party Saturday night! It was a success -- what's the criteria for success? The people you invite showing up with candy and a costume. This was my first party, in my new flat in London -- kinda nervous, but felt okay about it since the girls and I were going to have one anyway, we just changed the venue to my flat. We had lots of food, lots of drinks, lots of new people to meet. I reckon a total of 20+ people at the party. ... read more

This morning, after another good night’s rest, Dave and I went out to look at a couple flats since he needs to move out of his current one this weekend. One was near his current place and the other at Pembroke College. While he looked at the Pembroke flat, I sat out on a bench in one of the quads. While I was there, one of the servers from the dinner the night before walked by. The guy looked exactly like Lloyd from Entourage. We kept doing Ari Gold impersonations. Lloyd! After the flat search, it was time for me to go to the train station. After a quick sandwich at Said, I caught my train and made it down to London. After getting an Oyster card for the tube and checking into my hostel, I ... read more
