Geo: 50.3704, -4.14265We got into Plymouth about 2:30. It was pouring rain by now. I quickly had the receptionist call a cab for me. The cab fare was £ 3.00. I got to the Plymouth Mayflower museum. I had hoped for a lot of information about the Mayflower, but the exhibition was mostly about the growth of Plymouth. They had one floor out of the three dedicated to the actual ship and passengers. Downstairs on the first floor was the gift shop and Plymouth Visitor Center. I bought a postcard and magnet and then headed out to look around in the shops (picked up two thank you cards for Dave and Dylan) and to find a place to eat. It was still raining hard, and after looking up and down streets at various pub restaurants that ... read more

Geo: 50.3704, -4.14265Plymouth, EnglandWe got into Plymouth about 4:22 and drove directly to the quay (pronounced key here in the UK) for our hour cruise of the coast of Plymouth. It would have been nice if it hadn't started sprinkling when we got into Plymouth. As we were crossing the jetty to get to the boat, local youths were using the jetty to jump into the bay. It was cool outside and that water had to be cold. Many of the swimmers had wetsuits on, but some just had regular swim trunks or t-shirts and shorts on. We had passed a couple of boys jumping off a bridge just after leaving Glastonbury earlier in the day. But that was a small river, and it was quite warm by then. This was cold, rainy, and cloudy and ... read more

We have just spent yet another beautiful weekend at Treyarnon. The sun shone, well mostly, and we celebrated our anniversary in style. Our very own style that is, in the form of a bicycle made for two along the Camel Trail from Padstow to Bodmin (and back) followed by the ferry from Padstow to Rock. That's 22 miles on a TANDEM, if you're interested. The first countdown is to Glastonbury. Four more days of work and then we set off to join the great unwashed. A baptism of fire for our rtw trip or a gentle introduction? You decide! I don't think I quite get "less is more" as yet so watch out for Gregg's complaints. Back to the big trip and I have started emptying draws of "stuff" this evening and have already filled one ... read more

Wednesday 30.12.2009 Day 76 Portsmouth We walked to King Arthur castle it a fantastic place on the side of a cliff and Merlins Cave is there as well. We then drove to Stonehenge we could not believe how many people where there we saw more than 10 busses come and go while we were there. It cost £6.60 per person to go in and you cannot walk inside the stones there is a path around then that you have to stay on a long way from the stones and with hundreds of other people. The monument evolved between 3,000 BC and 1,600 BC and is aligned with the rising and setting of the sun at the solstices. It is a world Heritage site but the toilets and museum on the site are temporary buildings. It ... read more

Sitting in my Sister in laws in Plymouth having just safely returned Rory (11) and Theo (8) after a weeks holiday with their Aunt Liz and Uncle Alan. Had a great time at a campsite near the tiny hamlet at Hope Cove. We visited Kinsbridge and Salcombe by bus and Ferry and walked for miles out to a couple of beaches at Hope Cove and Thurlstone. The boys ate copious amounts of ice cream etc and seemed to survive a week with us in the van. The dog (Rhubarb) came with us and aslo seemed to enjoy the experience. Prior to the holiday with the kids we had a day at Mount Edgecombe country park, Nr. Plymouth) where we met up with some friends of Nigel (brother in law) who were on holiday from Madrid where ... read more

Geo: 50.3704, -4.14265 We awoke to gray skies and rain but this is England so this comes as no surprise. I am not complaining...It still beats snow. We had a big breakfast then hopped in the car to go see the city of Plymouth. It was much larger then we had thought it would be. We parked the car then walked around the main shopping area looking for the Tourist Information office. We found out that it is located near the sea front so off we went. On the way to the sea front we walked by this huge anchor from a military ship that was a must for a photo. When we got to the seafront and the Plymouth light house there was a bus rally going on. All kinds of buses. New, old, single ... read more

The Wedginald's So as is routine at this time of year - the Wedge had us drive down to Plyms to do some bitch work on his yacht. This involves finding some skanky old paint (anti-foul actually) and slapping it on the "Seraph's" underside - I think they call it hull. Fortunately, the weather was with us, so it wa'n't too painful. Sailing up the River Having done all of Wedge's bitch work, while he claimed to be busy saving the world with Nuclear Submarine Safety Procedures (unfortunately that's true - well I don't think he's actually saved the world yet, but his day will come), we topped and tailed the Seraph ready for its annual wetting. The trip up the river dart (I've guessed at that name, well more like made it up, so please ... read more
