My weekend in Plymouth was loads of fun and actually quite interesting. Noted below are some of the things that I did. Barbican Large parts of Plymouth were destroyed during the second world war, but the Barbican area survived, preserving the mediaeval street layouts and many of the Tudor Dwellings. The Barbican is a maze of narrow streets and alley ways, adjacent to Sutton Harbour, the original seaport of this area. Sutton Harbour and the Mayflower Steps Along with travelling through the streets and alley ways of the Barbican I also spent some time in the tourist information centre reading about the Pilgrams that left for America from the Mayflower steps in 1620; the Pilgrim Fathers famously pulled into to port for a few days in September 1620 and the Mayflower Memorial marks a point where ... read more

Hi Everyone, It's been a long time coming I know but I can finally update this blog after 3 months. I have the internet at home and a laptop now so I won't have any excuses not to update everyone on what's been happening. I'll start with some of the places I've seen in Cornwall and Devon. I've done a day trip to Oxford but didn't take a camera (very silly of me as the buildings there were really nice and I wish I'd been able to take some pictures). I'm really enjoying living in Plymouth as it's on the border between Devon and Cornwall and at the bottom of Dartmoor National Park, which is my favourite place here so far. ... read more

Hi Everyone, I'm so sorry I've been so slack and haven't up date this in how long? Since September the rumour goes. I hope it isn't that long, although I think it is. I hope that everyone is well and that you enjoy your Christmas and New Year. It will be the hardest this year not spending it with either Mum or Dad and their families on each side, and I hope the cold doesn't get to me too much. I must admit, it isn't nearly as cold as I thought it would be this time of year. The locals tell me that it is pretty mild for December so we're lucky. My plans to date are to stay in Plymouth for a while unless a job offer turns up that takes me there. The plan ... read more

After the hectic travelling I had been doing with Justin and Joel, coming to England was a little like coming home for a rest after the relaxing holiday. In essence it was, I was born in Plymouth and had lived there for a few years in my teens so I wasn't really interested in seeing the sights that London or Plymouth haad to offer, it was about seeing old friends and having fun/drinking alcoholic yeast water. London I arrived in London after flying via Frankfurt in a plane with propellers! When was the last time that anyone went on an international flight in a propeller driven plane. It was quite exciting though as they made an amazing noise when they were revving up, like a swarm of angry, mechanical bees. Also we weren't flying above the ... read more

Dear Friends, I'm dusting down this travelblog to let you know I'm off on a new adventure! Tomorrow I fly to Sri Lanka where I'll be be doing voluntary work with tsunami survivors. Towards the end of 2003, while I was working in India, I took a weekend trip to Sri Lanka. I completely adored the place and vowed to return one day to see more. Sadly, just a few months laters, the southern part of the island was decimated by the Boxing Day tsunami. We've all seen the dreadful pictures. Thirty thousand people died in Sri Lanka alone. I wonder about the people I encountered on that short trip, those I met and those that just waved and smiled. I don't imagine that the rustic beachside cabin I stayed in is still standing. Sobering thoughts... ... read more
