Plymouth for the long weekend (Extra long as we take the Wed, Thurs & Friday off) woohoo! Lots of sun and sea! We leave the Midlands on Wednesday around 10am for the 4 - 5 hour journey to Plymouth. An absolutely gorgeous day, which is great on one hand, bad on the other, as the car is not air conditioned. We only have one stop on the way so we can get there as soon as possible. The views on the way down are beautiful English country side. We arrive in Plymouth around 3.30pm to find we are right next to Sainsburys (supermarket) which is a bonus, as we can grab a few things to eat in the hotel. The hotel room is lovely, large room, champange waiting for us, big bathroom, really comfortable bed and ... read more

The journey continues and after 3.5 days of cycling I have finally ended up in Plymouth, my old stomping ground. My God are Dorset and Devon hilly!! The great thing about cycling everyday is that you can eat what you like including every single possible chocolate bar on offer. En route I was very fortunate to meet up with my old lodger Naomi who kindly treated me to lunch out in the vicinity of Beer. Whilst in Beer, I stumbled upon a bench which had a plaque on it commemorating somebody's young son. A tragic early death but at least the boy had his priorities right. Plymouth is always a great place to stop and have a rest and naturally with the sun out and shining I had to take advantage of the Barbican location with ... read more

Hello everyone. WOW this is it, the real countdown is here. It only seems five minutes ago that we were saying in a year we are going travelling. Now I can say WOOOOOWHOOOO I only have four weeks left of work. Fantastic. Its gets a little more nerve racking though to think of what we will both be like and all that w will experience. Like Cock roaches. Oh no! Will both miss our families so so much and our great friends. We cannot wait to see you all at our party on the 18th August and hope that you will all keep an eye on our Blog as our travels commence. We have both saved so hard for this and now we are both grinning from ear to ear with excitement. Can’t wait to travel ... read more

The flight home was excellent with BA, had a great seat at the back, near the loo, and the large man I would've been sat next to decided to move to another row where he had no-one either side of him. Good move. My Brother met me at Heathrow, and then we went to meet John at terminal 3. It was great to catch up with him and Jen and hear all their plans for travel later this year. Now I am back, making home and nesting at John's, his bachelor house has been transformed slightly . It seems quite strange. The weather at first was bleak, and grey, and I had forgotten how the weather so reflects everyone's mood, including mine. Everyone seems to be wandering around with a frozen, teeth clenching expression. It is ... read more

Hi Everyone, Well I've been back in Plymouth now for about a week. It's so nice to be home and to have time to relax before I get back into work again. It's nice not getting the underground as well, and really nice to be back in Devon and being able to go to Cornwall and Dartmoor whenever I want to. We've been to Cornwall a couple of times since I've been back, and went to Dartmoor National Park yesterday. It was really nice there. I picked up a book on walks in Dartmoor and we found one of the stone circles we were looking for, but the second one (it's two stone circles off each other) was a little more difficult. The directions were very difficult to decipher when your landmark to head for ... read more

This weekend I attended "The Church Colleges and Universities Choirs Festival 2007" in Plymouth (south-western coast of England) with the King Alfred Singers, from noon on Friday to 3 p.m. Sunday. Though I've expressed dissatisfaction with the choir in the past, I think this weekend made me appreciate it a lot more, and I don't think I'll be quitting right away. In fact, I may join a second choir! My reasons start with a reminder that I LOVE performing, especially in big, beautiful churches with inspiring religious music, and the fact that I actually made friends with a bunch of girls in the choir! The Festival One word: unorganized! I'm beginning to think this is an English thing. We never knew where we were supposed to be and when, and nothing ever started or ended on ... read more

Wow, what a day I've had. I got myself a bit lost at the port and bumped into this lifeboat skipper, George. To be honest I was a bit down in the dumps as I was missing my Mum. He was really kind and offered me a quick trip round the harbour on his lifeboat. It's an inshore inflatable, which makes it really fast. What a blast!!! My whiskers got drenched, but as you can see from the photo I had a fantastic position to watch the world whizz by! On returning to port George kindly dropped me off at the ferry terminal, and this morning I sailed for Santander. The picture shows me with Fat John, Shazza and Micky Mullet on deck. The weather was unseasonably good for the time of year as you can ... read more

Hey Guys, Well the last week or two have been fairly relaxed, only one major trip to speak of. It involved driving down to Plymouth to visit Deano and Lizzie on the saturday, a couple we met on a trip in Prague. We drove down to Bristol on the Friday night and slept in the van, pulled up at a road side stop. It was at a convience store with a petrol station - they charged £13 for the night, just to park the car! Thats roughly 30 Aust. dollars. Anyway we got a bit of sleep and trundled off further towards the South-west of England. We had a great time in Plymouth, walking round town a bit before ending up at a pub called the Cider press where we chatted away the afternoon with a ... read more
