We woke early on Wednesday to find it was raining cats and dogs, the tent was seriously wet, having hummed and harred over a cupper we went for the stay in place option for the day. With Ian’s highly accurate weather app telling us that the rain would stop at 8pm (it actually stopped at 8.02pm!) we decided on a catch up on laundry and find a supermarket day. Woolly say – I had a look outside the tent but couldn’t see any cats and dogs so I’m not sure what they are on about, there was an awful lot of rain though. Once showered we set off to find a supermarket, driving round the town of Zarautz was different, with stray people walking in front of Oliver and no sign of anything that looked like ... read more

Route: Viana - Ventosa Today a long day, 31.44 km in 7.15 hours but a good one, although a lot of urban walk, i.e. in cities on asphalt or concrete. We passed Logroño and Navarrete, cities of some size . Nice sunny weather but some frustrations and missers. The frustration came from a gentleman from Belgium who told he had started in Leuven in Belgium about 3 month ago and that had walked 1500 km already. As he put it, he just went for a walk and he now was discounting what was still missing.... Thinking you had walked a lot and hearing from someone that has walked 5 times more is somewhat humiliating. The misser was that I was given a number of hotels in the village of Sotés, 2 km of the Camino. As ... read more

Hard to get time on the internet, plus I¨m lazy. Off to Logrono, only 10 kms, easy day.Pop 130,000,stayed in a hotel again, showered, cafe. We found a market,so that was it for me!Every kind of fresh meat, and all and I mean ALL their parts.Nose to tail,eh Patrick.Fish is very expensive in this part of Spain.Smoked salmon, the small package 30.00 euros. met some kids 30 somethings,Simon and Mercedes from England. We spent the evening with beer and pinchos(tapas),Simon had become a bit of an expert.Pigs cheeks! Mercedes said they could of been a little bit more crusty,I thought they were fine and Aiden didn¨t know what he ate. It was the beginning of a festival.crazy nite, but we slept in,had a long breakfast.I left Aiden with cafe con leche and a basket of pastries. On to Najera, when we checked in the guy gave ... read more

Well I am 200 miles in Burgos Spain. Castrojeriz Spain to be exact. The other day in Burgos I broke a finger, my booger picker on top of that, pinched a nerve in my neck which hurts like hell and my feet are finally starting to heal. Other than that life has been great. We get up and go at the crack of dawn and are done walking by 1 or 2 depending on the heat. Thank god Scooter told me to take the walking shoes. Then we get into the albegure and wash our cloths and chill and do lunch. Spain has siesta everyday so the world shuts down from 1 to 7 pm. Nothing and I mean nothing is open. All the stores, if any are small. Basic necessities? no washing machines either. Everything ... read more

We left at about 8.30 in the morning leaving our back packs behind....It felt pretty weird leaving them in some one else's care and not having them on our back....they do become part of you after awhile..... Just hope they get to the next place ok.......We left with our little light weight pack, raincoat and our bottle of water. There wasn't anything open so we walked straight out of town into the next...... 3 km down the track. Bought ourselves a coffee from a grumpy man. Its seems the people either like us walking through their area or they would just sooner us not be there..... I have this feeling as we all walk through Spain that we are another breed of animal. Every day of these people's lives, people with backpacks walk through their towns, ... read more

You may have noticed that in my headings I have put in brackets a description....This is mainly for Jacqui and myself to remember the albergue's that we stayed in. To remember the town names or the albergue names would be almost impossible as the names are so different to our names in Australia..... giving them a name relating to something that may have happened or describe the room.... has worked for us. There were small hailstones when we started walking today. We put our raincoats on.....have been wearing them for warmth lately. Had a few small climbs today and my foot is feeling a lot better with the ankle brace on. It seems to like the extra support which is making my life a lot better. Jacqui gave it a massage as well last night which ... read more

We walked 23km today. Another very cold day.....I still have a cough all tho it hasn't got any worse but am tired and don't really feel like walking today. The first town we came to we stopped and had a coffee and a bread roll with bacon egg and tomato with some herbs...tasted pretty good.....They have great fresh crunchy bread and pastries....We have got into the habit of buying 2 bread sticks today for tomorrow so its not crunchy when we get to it..and we always share one and carry the other for about 3 days then get sick of carting it around then decide to throw it away...then do it all over again...think we would work it out....did eventually ....started buying one stick and eating the following day...no wastage but still no crunchy bread. Jacqui ... read more

You ain´t no punk you punk You wanna talk about the real junk! (Garbageman - The Cramps) I wonder if this is the first time that The Cramps have been used to make a metaphysical point? Well if it has it was probably with Can your Pussy do the Dog? anyway... SOOOOOOO, enough of that... there reasons for using The Cramps quote are twofold. In conversation with a keen psychobilly fan (reason one for the reference), the view was expressed that the camino was a good means of clearing psychic debris from your life. It´s the equivalent of a bin night for your brain - a spring clean of the psyche... To give you an example from today. I was looking forward to making a detour off the camino today and visiting the monastery at Cañas, ... read more

No, not Geoffrey Blainey... Over the last three day´s I´ve put in some fairly heavy kilometres (although not as many as some freaks - more about them later). 30, 35 and 30 over the last three days have made me feel a bit footsore and a little less gushing in my enthusiasm for the scenery, the weather, the food, OH LOOK AT THE SHAPE OF THAT CLOUD, OMG!!!!! - that kind of thing. 95 kilometres and a chest cold will knock that right out of you. But, you know, there is a little bit of martyr´s pride about it - until I remember that I´ve basically walked from my front door to Seymour - which seems just a bit sad. So here´s the thing - that distance seems so much further because I walked it (along ... read more
