You may have noticed that in my headings I have put in brackets a description....This is mainly for Jacqui and myself to remember the albergue's that we stayed in. To remember the town names or the albergue names would be almost impossible as the names are so different to our names in Australia..... giving them a name relating to something that may have happened or describe the room.... has worked for us.
There were small hailstones when we started walking today. We put our raincoats on.....have been wearing them for warmth lately. Had a few small climbs today and my foot is feeling a lot better with the ankle brace on. It seems to like the extra support which is making my life a lot better. Jacqui gave it a massage as well last night which helped heaps......The advantage of walking with a friend.....Her feet gets massaged as well.........We had quite a lot of wind today...and cold......... always head winds.....never tail winds which sure would help going up those hills.
We arrived quite early today.....about 12.30 which means that the alburges are all closed. When everyone leaves them in the morning they are then cleaned and tidy for the next
lot of pilgrims to arrive, so a lot of them dont open before 1 - 1.30....We arrived at one which we thought we would stay at but was closes. We saw Patrick...from Canada who we had met a few days earlier. He was going to go and have some lunch and come back, we decided to find the plaza and do the same. On the way there we found a little private albergue that was opened and decided to check it out.
It was owned by a lovely Hungarian couple. The building was old but very clean with a great bathroom real towels and one big bathrobe. We were shown to the bedroom up one flight of stairs. The owner offered us a coffee and tea so I sat back in the one comfy chair with a hot coffee and a biscuit. Felt like a queen sitting back being waited on. Doesnt take much to keep us happy....... We paid the owner to have our washing done. Went and had a shower and washed my hair......oopps used up most of the hot water and Jacqui had a luke water to cold shower...I reminded her "a pilgrim does not complain".....
We went into the Plaza and found some tea later in the day went back to the room......It is the first cold room that we have had. It had a small heater in it that helped a bit.
The scenery has started to change. We seem to be walking through vineyards and crops. Altho there seems to be a lot of rivers and creeks I did see some irrigation sprinklers in the paddocks. Am surprised as the land seems so wet.
We didn't take a lot of photo's today....I think our bodies are telling us to take a day of...We are quite surprized that we are still stuggling a bit ....but a lot of people that we talk to says the same thing.
We have decided to walk 30km tomorrow to try and make up some ...we had a few small days and feel we are possibly a couple of days behind of where thought we would be.....we have 3 climbs so will be a big day so have decided to forward on our backpacks on to our next place. The owners were good enough to organise it for us..costs about 7eu. A day with out
the backpack will help my cold and my foot.
