Oopsy, haven’t written in a while, not since the end of July and now we’re well into October (actually November by the time I finished writing this) time flies when you’re having fun! Our year is well over halfway through and we’re not ready to be thinking about coming home yet, as we are enjoying ourselves far too much! When I last wrote we were just about to leave Germany after spending some time in the beautiful South Germany countryside. We headed into France via the Black Forest then the Dijon area before arriving at La Roque Gageac in the Dordogne, roughly at the same time as the heat wave. You’ve not experienced 40 degree heat until you’ve experienced it living in a tin can with no electricity (so no fan or cold drinks/able to keep ... read more

Geo: 42.4307, -2.56467Apologies for the absence of postings but after several months of sunshine the weather took a serious turn for the worse. Friday and Saturday in central Portugal were very wet and at times windy (olives falling on the caravan roof) but after four months without rain they needed it, however not when we were in town! We got out and about for provisions, that is Lidl (Portalegre) and the local Saturday market for local fruit, veg and cheese in Santo Antonio but cabin fever kicked in when conditions prevented us from exploring on foot or bike. During a few hours without rain on Sunday, David took down the awning ahead of us sadly leaving Camping Asseiceira on Monday morning. But we intend to be back to this calm, peaceful oasis in Portugal in the ... read more

Our stop for the night was Camping Haro in the town of the same name. The area is famous for Rioca wine. Visits to a bodega are the main things that people come to Haro and we hoped to purchase some of it as our wine supply was getting a little low. Bring on some of that red stuff. The Site was quite big but friendly. Reception was open and it looked as if the English Camping and Caravan club used it regularly for rallies. The cost was 16 euros a night as it is an ACSI site. We had a choice of a few large areas to park and picked one that was what we thought would be fairly shady. There were tall trees behind us which prevented Kathrein from even trying to pick ... read more

We set the alarm off for 7.00 giving us time to have a quick breakfast, clear away and be on the road for Spain for 8.00. The border came quickly and surprisingly. There was no EU blue sign stating we were entering Spain just a toll station which we recognised as not being French. I wonder if in this part of France they dont quite know what they feel and in the Basque country they don’t want to recognise their Spanishness and prefer to ignore it and be just Basques. I can understand that coming from one of the smallest nations in the world. Being Welsh you understand the need to maintain your own customs, your own language and your own identity. Seeing the road signs in two languages reinforced the difference between this part of ... read more

Internet infrequent but hopefully tonight so hope to update then! I am walking 42km for the 4th and to celebrate my unborn grandchild. So today I walk a marathon to the Glory of God, in honor of my great nation and in celebration of the new baby to be born. Time to go now. Buen Camino!... read more

Empowered to Receive Love - Abba means much the same as daddy. Thus the word Abba expresses trust, safely, confidence, belonging, and most of all intimacy. Abba implies an embracing and nurturing love which transcends all love that may come from elsewhere. Complements of Henri Nowen as translated by ME! I have been walking with Abba father - my daddy - quite a bit. Today I walked 18 miles almost non-stop, except to watch a herd of sheep grazing with its shepard (yes a real shephard - complete with staff and dog!) watching over them. And yes I recited the 23rd Pslam to myself. Anyway I walked that 18 miles for the most part alone. Many of my friends left ahead of me and then stopped in Viana. I chose to keep going as I was ... read more

A short day today just 16km but we have stepped over the 250km mark so almost 1/3 of the total distance behind us. Easy walking today but somehow it does not matter how far you go by the end your feet are tingling. We happened to leave Azofra just as the pilgrims from Najera were passing through so the way was busy but still you had your own space. It looks amazing ahead with forty or fifty people spread out over two or three Km 's on the crushed limestone paths. I hope one of the photos posted shows this. If not when we get home and you inevitably sit through the marathon slideshow you will see it then. Met a nutter today - an Austrian who left Logrono at 2am this morning and is stopping ... read more

On our way to Azofra which is 23.3km down the road, well path actually. Fiona headed off this morning with a vengeance arriving in Ventosa for morning tea ahead of me. Fiona leaves in the morning while I pack and pay the bill. She likes to see how long it takes for me to catch up while I try to catch her as soon as possible - yip the sun has got to us. We generally only spend about half the day if that walking together, the rest is wandering along chatting to others or walking alone. Both are great, it's nice to have time on you own as well as meeting new walkers to chat to and learn about their lives. Everyone is so open as we all have the Camino in common. We have ... read more

Europe » Spain » La Rioja » Logroño June 25th 2013

So an easier day today which has been great for Fiona. We will try two shorter days to see if her leg improves and then we will try stepping out again - hold that thought, we have just stopped in Logrono for lunch and a restful afternoon (which includes me updating our blog) and her ladyship now feeling good has just suggested we up route and carry on for another 13km to Navarette. I will continue later once we have made a CONSENSUS decision and I have done exactly as I am told. Back later. Fiona and Father decided it was divine inspiration to head off again for another 13km what I wanted to know was how about some divine energy? None was forthcoming at least not for me. Both of them literally raced away, given ... read more
