SING WITH ME..."I'm leaving on a fast train, don't know when i'll be back again". Its really sad that i'm leaving today, or at least INTEND to leave. ive had so much fun with my friends here. it was really great to see them again, and to make some new friends as well. Its one of those cosmic twists of fate that allowed me to make this pilgrimage. to bring the saga of cristain and i full circle, and to begin a new chapter. i wish very much to return here. but for now, i have other fish to fry. "the fats in the fire" HST So, i went out with my friends last night, had a few drinks, made some new friends, fredorico and cristian2 (appearently my reputation preceded me). said a difficult goodbye to ... read more

Its cold and rainy today so no beach for bobby. instead ive spent the morning working on some travel and accomadation plans. working with websites in italian can be vexing but im picking up alot of what im reading. i ought to be leaving tomorrow, but dont hold me to that. if theres one thing i was right about, its that any plan i could have made could be shot to shit in an instant. take my falling asleep on the train for instance. that would have blasted any plans or reservations i had in croatia. now i know what your thinking, dont fall asleep an hour before your stop. thats all well and good but when your out here alone sleep can come when it comes and theres not a damb thing you can do ... read more

For all of you who put positive thoughts out for me to find my friend, cristian... it worked! yesterday afternoon i gat a call at the hostel from him. he came over to rimini with wife and baby girl(ciao emily) and took me to his village of san archangelo. yesterday happened to be "il fiesta del flur" and the whole town was out and about the town. they were all walking and taking and everywhere i went it was "ciao" and "bona sera" to me, a total stranger. The first stop we made was at a gelatorria, icecream shop. The experiance was akin to the floor of the NYSE. People with tickets in their hands waving wildely to get the attention of one of the gelato girls. Total pandamonium. A stark contrast to the tranquility of ... read more

Every once in a while, even the toughest tramp needs a little r&r. For me, Rimini was a great choice for it. Its just before the tourist season here so the hostel is somewhat empty. my room has 8 beds but im the only occupant. nice and quiet. this is aslo one of the cheaper hostels here as its 3 blocks from the beach and next to the railroad tracks. none of which bothers me. the rooms are clean, showers warm. i have a verranda to sit out on, wifi is free and strong, laundry is cheap, people are nice( bonegiornos everywhere), and the weather is nice. all in all im getting myself back. after my trip through slovania, i was near ready to quit and go home. but now i feel reborn. the wieght of ... read more

My dear pal christian talked quite a bit about this place and i can see why. he lives around here somewhere and im not sure he wants me to find him, but when has some little thing like that stopped me. yep, bull in a china shop, thats me. But im getting ahead of myself. yesterday i had plenty of time to explore venice, and boy, what a wacky city. its a miricle its still standing. my brother eric would shit a brick if he saw this nightmare. the bottom walls of buildings are bulging and blowing out on all the buildings so they stick an anchor through the wall ratchet strap it to a wall falling in the opposite direction. yeh it looks that bad. not to mention the whole city is sinking apperently. Otherwise ... read more

Prague Over the Easter break Bronny and I headed to Prague to meet up with Wisey for a week. Unfortunately the cold weather (it snowed almost every day) and the hearty Czech cuisine didn’t agree with Wisey and Bron, so the first few days were a bit slow. Eventually, feeling like a hyperactive child, I was able to bully them out of bed and we escaped the confines of our hostel with its creepy reception man, and burst out into the beautiful, magical, fairytale city that is Prague. We visited the two palaces, saw Mozart’s Don Giovanni at the marionette theatre, watched the very over-rated clock tower strike the hour, visited the Jewish quarter, and basically just walked around enjoying the gorgeous sights, frequently ducking into cafes and pubs to escape the freezing weather. We met ... read more

Europe » Italy » Emilia-Romagna » Parma April 11th 2008

Well, today was a terribly rain, overcast day, so I thought it would be fun (?) to just drive on up to Parma. Heck, I am an Americano, so I figured I would drive up, see a 30-foot tall cow statue holding a giant piece of Reggiaono Parmesan to indicate factory tour here. It does not quite work that way here. I did not find a single tour for cheese, prosciutto or balsamic. For that matter, I couldn't even find anyone that spoke English to help me. I drove past lots of plants that produced these yummy goods, but they were not open to the public. I did see several shops, but they were closed. This is not really tourist country to begin with I don't think and this is definately not tourist season. I had ... read more

Italy!! Day 18 (if you say it quickly it just pops out without blinking an eyelid) We have arrived in our second country. AND THEY HAVE A QWERTY KEYBOARD!!!!!! The last night in Salon was again lovely. We discovered this beautiful Morrocan restaurant, I was over the moon about the vegetables so you know it must have been good, We had Morrocan rosé which was like Rosé light. it was more sé than rose, Still it went down well. Then it was up early to begin our adventure in Italy, We said farewell to Clare (our GPS voice and family in joke) at the border and we were on our own, before we left though we were treated to soem of the most stunning scenery either of us have ever seen. You can understand why the ... read more
