Hello my fellow travellers! I slept better tonight than I did last night because I closed the window so the traffic didn't disturb me this time. I woke up rested and I said my goodbyes to Peppe before I boarded the bus to Rimini. When I arrived at the station I first checked the timetable for the train and bought my ticket to Bologna, giving myself a decent margin to catch my flight. Since I knew my time in Rimini would be limited I set out right away with my camera in one hand and my map in the other, keeping a brisk pace! My first target was the Malatesta Temple, a true landmark standing at the centre of Rimini. It was heavily damaged during World War II and was actually reconstructed by the so called ... read more

After a long travel from Lithuania, finally we reached Italy. My purpose was to visit Rimini. Rimini is a really artistic city with ancient Roman and Renaissanse monuments, this city is the hometown for well-known film director Federico Fellini. When I arrived in this city, I noticed, what it's is really vibrant. A lot of people, lights and sounds. The city itself is really diverse, because in daytime Rimini is peaceful and silent place, but at night Rimini shows the other side. In the daytime I enjoy the spellbinding view of Rimini. Firsly, I visit Malatesta Temple. It was built in around 1450, by Leon Battista Alberti. I really interested in Romanesque style, so it was nice to visit one more building built in this style. Another object I visited was The Arch of Augustus. It ... read more

Avellino, across the Italian peninsula, up the east coast to San Merino – afternoon of 19 & 20 October 2013 After leaving the Amalfi Coast, we got to Salerno and headed north to Avellino where we did some food shopping. We then got on the toll-road until we hit a secondary road north at Candela, driving up to Foggia. Staying on the toll road we reached the eastern coast of Italy after driving through some broad-acre farmland. All the hills had been ploughed up and everything looked really dry. We reached a town called Termoli where we decided to go back onto the coastal road to see more interesting sights. However there were trees between us and the beach so eventually we went back on the toll road. More and more camp sites are closing for ... read more

Tomorrow is a big travelling day so I won’t actually be doing anything apart from sitting on trains and trying to get my heavy luggage on and off trains so I thought I would do my whole Italian adventure in one blog…mainly because this has been the relaxing part of my holiday and therefore has mainly been me sitting on my backside on the beach or by the pool. However, I’m getting ahead of myself. Last Wednesday, 31st July arrived in Milan and again thanked my lucky stars that a cock up by the airline at one point made me arrive at Linate rather than the more famous Malpensa airport. I always fly to Linate now as the airport bus is 5 euros to the central station and takes 2 minutes as opposed to the train ... read more

A third sombre breakfast at Bagni di Lucca couldn't be avoided and we think we shall make a comment on Trip Advisor suggesting that the hotel owner installs a system that allows music at least to be played at breakfast time to give some atmosphere for their guests.Had we been able to converse in Italian or German we could of course have small talk with the others that were at breakfast when we were but with our limited knowledge of those languages it would have been hard going. We are heading back to the East coast of Italy today to stay a couple of nights at Rimini so that we can visit the Republic of San Marino,an oddity amongst the countries of the world.More about that tomorrow when we take a couple of hours to visit ... read more

(wrote this yesterday, but just got the Internet working!) Buenjourno! What a week it's been. Last I wrote I was in Florence taking an easy day as I was not quiet feeling 100%. I can happily report I got over whatever that was quickly and so enough of that! The day after the last blog post I hopped on a train heading to Rome to go and see Papa Francesco for Easter weekend. Upon arriving in Rome, I met up with some fellow travelers from the previous hostel that just so happened to be staying at the same hostel in Rome. And clarify what I mean by "hostel" I mean campground outside of Rome. This is the result of being cheap and booking late for Easter weekend. (more on this later) First day in Rome was ... read more

Bir y... read more

This part of the trip was one of my favourites. Rimini is a party town but full of Germans, a bit like their version of Magaluf or somewhere British young people go. Our hostel called the Jammin party hostel lived up to it's name. When we arrived we went down to the beach and just sat looking out to the sea as this was our first time at a beach resort. That night we decided to go to bed early, the German girls in our room were going out and their male friends were there. A while after they left the boys burst back into the room and demanded that Ally kiss them!!! She didn´t luckily and since then we have tried to stay away from groups of German boys. The next day we hired sun ... read more
