On Saturday, 24 February, we made a shopping tour. We got up at 9 o’clock in the morning and had an appointment in front of the Eyre Square Centre at 10.30. We went shopping until 13.30 and ate something from McDonalds. There were so many shops and I bought some souvenirs for my mum and my dad. I liked to go shopping there because the clothes were not so expensive as in Austria. At 2 o’clock we drove home by bus and the rest of the day we stayed at home and did nothing. We got up at 9 o’clock. Then we went into the city by bus. At half past ten we met in front of the Eyre Square Center. Next we went shopping. I bought some souvenirs for my family, friends and for me. ... read more

On Friday, 23 February, we got up at 7.30. After breakfast we went to the bus stop and the bus left at 8.40. At school we played some games with our favourite teacher David and it was much fun. After school we made a sightseeing tour through Galway. We visited the “Eyre Square”, this is the main square of Galway, then we went to “The Cathedral”, it is a big, wonderfully looking church, we visited also the “Lynch’s Window”, the “Docks”, the “Claddagh Swans”, the “Spanish Arch”, the “Kirwan’s Lane”, a collage of historical architecture, cafes and craft-shops, and at last we visited the “Galway Market”. After this sightseeing tour we took a bus back home and at 7.45 p.m. some of my friends and I met at the bus stop in Knocknacarra, where we all ... read more

What a nice weather we had yesterday. Just have a look at the photos. It's raining heavily now. Fortunately I'm sitting in the internet cafe. Below you can see some photos of Galway, which is really a nice town as you will see. In the afternoon the students had to go on a treasure hunt, to ask passerbys in the street for information about Galway and Irish life and culture. They had a lot of fun as you can see below. In the evening we went to the Crane Pub again, where we experienced a great trad session of Irish music with a fantastic line up of artists, from young musicians to the well established fiddler and composer Charlie Lennon, blues and roots guitarist Chad Dughi and folk singer Fred Johnston. This gig was put on ... read more

Yesterday evening we had a great Irish music and dance evening at the language school. Two musicians, playing the fiddle, tin whistle, flute, bodhram and spoons, introduced us to the traditional Irish music. The students were even invited to participate playing the spoons. Then two young ladies showed us traditional Irish dancing. Their tap dancing was very powerful and energetic. Then they taught the students some dance steps. It was really great fun although there was too little space for all students and the steps were quite difficult to follow. After this fascinating and interesting experience we, the teachers, went to the Crane, a typical Irish pub where we could enjoy some more live traditional music over a pint of Guinness. What would we do without this great liquid food. Unfortunately the students can't share this ... read more

On Thursday, 22 February, our day started at the same time as the last one. We got up at 7 o’clock, we had breakfast and at 8.15 our bus brought us to school. Before school started I checked my e-mails and in the first lesson we learned something about Ireland. Afterwards we had our lunchbreak and at 2 o’clock p.m. we made a treasure hunt. We got three pieces of paper with 30 questions on it and we had to ask the people on the street for the answers. It was very funny because we met two men and they gave us all correct answers. After we had got all these answers we went back to the school but my group was not the first and so we got no price. After the evaluation we watched ... read more

On Wednesday, 21 February 2007, we got up at 7 o’clock in the morning. For breakfast we got toast, jam, Nutella, orange juice and coffee. Adrienne, our host mum, brought us to school and showed us the bus stop where we could get the bus home. We were very early at the school and so we went through Galway with some students from the 3 BHW. The school started at 9.30 and in our first lesson we had to describe ourselves. At 11 o’clock we had a break and so we had the chance to surf through the net and write an e-mail home. From 11.30 to 13 o’clock we had our last lesson for that day and after school we watched a film named “Nothing hill”. In the evening we had an Irish dancing evening. ... read more

Hello from Galway. We have finally arrived here in Galway. Our journey took us from Spittal to Salzburg airport by coach, to Dublin with Aer Lingus, where we were met by sunshine !, and finally to Galway by coach again. We started our journey at 7:00 in the morning and arrived at 18:00 in the late afternoon, the students were met by their hostparents and we, the teachers were brought to our guesthouse, the St.Jude's B&B, a really nice and lovely place to stay. There we also had our first excellent Irish dinner. Afterwards we went to O'Connor's one of the famous Galway pubs, just a few minutes from our guesthouse, an had our first pints of Guinness. "Slainte" After a typically full Irish breakfast, including fried egg, tomato, mushrooms, bacon and sausages, we went to ... read more

Just left Galway today. Went there to visit Aengus. We had such a great time of course, went to pubs, saw the Cliffs of Moher, Galway city and more. The trip started off as normal trip, waking up in the morning but when looking out the window there was snow everywhere. Not that much compared to lceland but enough to get our flight cancelled. We spent then 5 hours in a que to get a new ticket and got one to Shannon airport at 22:20. Due to delay on the flight we missed the last bus from the Airport and had to sleep there. But got the first bus in the morning to Galway. Oh....time is up gotta go. Keep you posted.... read more

This was the first unscheduled Saturday we have spent in Galway since we arrived on January 3rd, so three of us API girls headed down to the market in the city center. This market pops up every Saturday, and is an excellent display of the city’s constant energy. I don’t think I have ever walked around when the streets weren’t reasonably crowded (including random times like Wednesday afternoons), but the market was especially packed with both locals and other tourists. (I think I need another term - tourist seems to have expired now that I’ve been here a month, but I haven’t come up with anything better. Oh well.) Anyway, there were stands with jewelry, hats, scarves, and other such accessories - for those who know me, you’ll be glad to know I resisted . . ... read more
