so we left waterfoed on the 1050am bus having to change buses in limerick then on to clarecastle just 2km outside ennis. the couple we stayed with are very religous there are pictures and statues all over their house. they seem nice though, but talk consistently. when they started talking about ennis and the things to do there we jumped at the chance to leave to explore the city. so we went out to the bus, saw the museum where they discouvered a well, well renovating, they inclosed it being able to still look into it. the high light of the entire museum. then to the grocery where we picked up supplies sandra decided we should take a cab again and ended up paying this man 11 euro for only 2 km not even, not happy ... read more

Hello hello, Well it's now Wednesday morning and I've been in Ireland for over a week now. We arrived in Dublin last Tuesday. We had a look around the Dublin streets which was really nice. There were 5 of us at that point so of course one of the first things we did was walk into an Irish pub for a pint of Guiness. We then found a pretty cheap and nice hostel, followed by a meal at a pub. We were going to find another location for a few quite drinks but we were told that there was a pre-med uni party at the place we had just eaten. Naturally we stayed in there and within 1 hour the place was full. It was an awesome first night. The following day a couple of us ... read more

Arrived at Dublin airport and got picked up by Em in her work provided BMW (beats a work van!). We got back to where she lives at Portarlington and headed straight for her local pub. I've been dying for a real Guinness so they went back very smoothly and quickly. Em was happy to see someone that could keep up with her, but disappointed that she was now the second fastest drinker. The next morning after a sleepin, we headed out on our calender pub crawl. For those who don't know, Alex a friend of ours, challenged Em to visit every pub on an Irish pubs calender she bought a year or two ago. By the time I'd arrived, she had visited 2. Our first stop was Cork, in South Ireland where we could not find ... read more

Galaway has been the most beautiful city we have visited so far. We had really nice rooms and great roommates (the swiss guy, Alex and two Americans who were like 50.) The Americans had crazy accents and were very hyper. It took the lady an hour to decide what to do about her bed being slept in (although there was a clean bed, in the bunk right above her.) In Galaway we seen a park called Eyre Park and the Church of Galaway. We also took a bus tour that day. We drove an hour and a half out of Galaway to see the cliffs of Moher which were 235 meters down to the ocean. The roads were very thin and we had to stop and pull over every time we seen a vehicle. The country ... read more

It's been a while, but we're back to the bloggin'. We arrived in Galway (the opposite side of Ireland from Dublin) yesterday and have had quite a little trip getting here! First off, we got to the airport and picked up Jesse's luggage (although she's still wearing the same panties and sandals), picked up the rental car, and started driving on the wrong side of the street! Without any glasses! WHERE'S THE ROAD!?! So that happened. The first day out we went to Glendalough, an ancient monastic site an hour south of Dublin. We hiked a little and had an all around good time! We drove south from there to a little hostel who's lawn we camped on that night. We woke up to, not roosters, but cows at 5:00 in the morning. Hazzah! Alrighty! We ... read more

03-05 May 06 First off I loved Galway! It was so beautiful there. It is right on the coast looking right out onto Canada. The first day I got up at 5:30. It actually wasn't that bad waking up so early but I think that is because I knew I would be able to sleep on the bus. I met Sarah at the bus stop at 6:45 to take the 7am bus. Jay and her friend Karyne from Canada, were also coming but they were going to take a later bus. It took around 3 1/2 hours to get to the opposite side of the island. It's hard to believe that this island is so small. In Canada that would only take you just outside of the city! Sarah and I arrived in Galway around 10:30 ... read more

Today is my birthday, but it seems that my husband is not going to do anything to acknowledge that until we reach our destination for today. :-( I think I irritated him by starting off late this morning - I stayed up late last night writing in my travel journal (the kind made of paper, bound in leather - remember those?), so I slept later than usual. By the time I got showered and dressed and we went downstairs, we had missed breakfast. Meanwhile, we did have a tea tray in the room, so Tim had at least had a nice cuppa, which is more than I had. Do I sound whiny and spoiled yet? Well what do you expect from someone who calls herself Baroness? So we hit the road on an empty stomach. God ... read more

Well, the plans are to be studying in Galway City at the National University of Ireland Galway. Taking courses in Gaelic & Ethnic Studies . . . then of course the intimate studies in the current pub situation of this magical isle. We've got a trip to the Newgrange megalithic site in Co. Meath. which will carry on into Dublin for a weekend, super psyched about that. I really want to get to the Aran Islands the following week. Our travels will then take us to Northern Ireland, to the Famine Museum and more in Strokestown, Derry, and Dunfanaghy. After all of this Emerald Isle rockin' the trip moves to London for a number of days. Nothing but a great time ahead of this Cali boy. Keep rockin' and I hope these journals, which will ... read more

Galway is a relaxing, picturesque get-away to the past. It's beautiful, quaint and full of life. The buildings are preserved and the roads are cobblestone. So many walkers filled the streets that I felt like part of a river carving through the town. Do not purchase your Eurail train pass in advance. Train workers in Ireland can strike at a day's notice. I paid 250 USD for my Eurail pass and couldn't use it once in Ireland. We wanted to take the fast train down to the Ring of Kerry and to the Blarney Castle, but, alas, what could have been accomplished in a short train ride became an eight-hour bus ride. So we went to Galway, instead. I don't regret it. Galway's on the coast, so we could see the waves crashing against the cliffs ... read more
