Kefalonia was a beautiful island offering a good and varied week for us. Would definately recommend hiring a car and driving the circular route, stopping at beach resorts, quaint villages, and the traditional tourist attractions. Avoid driving in the rain though ... the roads get very slippery and after the car span ... we were very lucky to not have dropped down the cliff face and ended up ... well lets just say ... was a tad scary. This aside, really nice island to visit and would definately recommend it. We stayed at Skala Beach, which was a good location. ... read more

It was another amazing breakfast this morning as we all stuffed ourselves silly in preparation for our full day on the water. We were all warned about George, the operator of the boat we were about to board. He was a perverted old man but was loads of fun and laughs. We got off bus and walked towards the docks. I was wondering which boat we were going to get on. I saw this dinky little thing and was hoping that wasn't the boat. Sure enough, George was heading towards this boat. It was so small that I was beginning to wonder if we could safely carry all 45 of us aboard. No life rafts either! After seeing Titanic, this was a big deal to me. We all boarded and most of us headed towards ... read more

I was jarred awake this morning at an ungodly hour by the sounds of someone in my room yelling at me to wake up. "30 minutes until docking" he was yelling. The nerve of this guy to enter my cabin unannounced to wake me up. I was still able to hear him as he went down the hall yelling at all the other passengers to wake up. Not wanting to be left behind, I quickly ran in the shower and gathered my things. We docked in the port town of Igoumentisa. From here, we were to catch another ferry that would take us to Corfu town. It was still dark outside and everyone was still half asleep as we were disembarking. We walked along with our suitcases to the port terminal where we were to ... read more

Greetings everyone from the Pink Palace, this place is pretty amazing. Truth be told, I haven't really done anything but drink and lay out at the beach since I've been here, my life sucks doesn't it!!! Staying here for a few more days and then taking a bus from here to Athens where I will probably stay for 2 days, then on to Ios and maybe Santorini. Don't really have much else to say, hopefully I'll be able to send some pics from Athens. Till then, Mike... read more

I arrived in Corfu Greece (it's an island to the northeast of the mainland of Greece) 4 days ago and spent 3 full days here. It is again another great spot. The water is crystal blue and the beaches are great. Yesterday we went on a boat ride around the island (it's huge) and hung out on a few beaches around the island. It was just my tour group on a private boat so it was really cool (but crowded, there were 25 of us on medium sized boat) I went to this beach today with one of the ladies on my trip, her name's Suzanne (she's from NY and we've decided that she and i will definitely have to go travelling together again). The beach we were at today is called Ag. Gordios. One of ... read more

Corfu is just beautiful and I really like this hostel. Because I booked online, I'm only paying 19 euros a night (rather than 26). Even 19 is a bit high...but this place it great. All you do all day is swim and lay on the beach. A cooked breakfast is included (most hostels give you a slice of bread and some jam). Dinner is great and also included...the best part is that they wait on you! There are only two of us in the room and I think it might just be me tonight. The room has A/C (this is the first room with it this entire trip!) and an ensuite bathroom and shower! Oh and sheets and towels are included and there is a private beach...not to shabby for 19 euros! Now to the wildness...this ... read more

Went cruising around the fu today in the car we hired! Emily, Ange, Nat L-Z, Julia and I hired an orange Kia, which was brand new - it'd only done 28 kms. Left at about 10 and had to go get petrol, then headed off to the beach. I drove first, and it's definitely an interesting experience driving on the right hand side of the road, getting used to everything being opposite. I kept using my wong mirror instead of the rear view mirror, not that it mattered that much. Changing gears was the least of my worries, and easily adapted to. The roads are so narrow, and cars don't keep on their side of the road at all - Greeks are even worse drivers than the Italians. We headed south along the coast, the cut ... read more

Ack! Writing the date makes me realize how little time we have left. Oh well, today will be perfect. The first thing I heard when I woke up was the ocean and the birds, and now I'm sitting on our balcony watching the waves below. I can't get over how lucky we are to find this place. My hat is tipped to Nick of the sharp eye. It's kind of misty now, but hopefully it will burn off after we go on our hike and explore Corfu town. In this light I can see some reefs close to shore - I just wish I had some snorkel equipment. There's something bobbing about in the water, moving like a log, but it's white. Andreas is checking it out from the windows of the restaurant with binoculars. Nick ... read more

Chapter 33 Bed rest and a long walk to the monastery After fetching Maya’s breakfast, Martin headed back out on his own, wishing Maya could also see the places but wanting to capture as much as possible to relay back to her upon his return. He was off on his own adventure today, though he didn’t really want to go to far so Maya would not be left alone for too long. He left the old town from the south and headed towards the airport where he wanted to find the bay they had been unable to reach a few days before. Passing Corfu Town FC ( the equivalent of Kingstonian ground), he glimpsed the single runaway of the airport. A sign at the fenced off runway rather amusingly read “ Danger Aeroplanes above”, which made ... read more

Chapter 32 Martin plays doctor on a beautiful day Martin arose at around midday, having already told the cleaner to come back the following day, and went to fetch Maya some cream, bandages and more painkillers. He also managed to pick her up some pop, croissants and a coffee. She had managed to sleep during the night but was still in a lot of pain, though the bruising had come out and it seemed she should be back on her feet within a few days. Having applied the cream and the bandage she told Martin to go and enjoy the sunshine as it seemed today was to be the hottest day so far on their trip. Martin felt a little hesitant to leave her but she insisted she was fine to read her trilogy and saw ... read more
