What a wonderful 1st week back in Stockum. I've had a great time with family and friends. It is kind of amazing how many friends I still have around here even 10 years after I lived here. Here are some of the weeks highlights ;-) Monday I went for a walk around Stockum with my friend Nina and her new 9 month old baby Maja. =) She was soooo adorable. It was great to catch up with Nina. We took the shorter walk as rain was threatening, although it did not appear. Tuesday afternoon I met up with Juli and her husband Christian. We went into Sundern for ice cream. MMMMMM... straweberrry cup. I love it. =) I really I'm going to miss the ice cream. It was fun just hanging out with them. In the ... read more

Ahhh.... what a relaxing Sunday it was. (Especially considering Marina and I were at the wedding till 2am) Of course, neither of us woke up really early. Unfortunately, Marina had to head back to Köln soon after she got up. She still had a lot of studying to do and a test to take. =/ She's studying for the German equivalent of the CPA exam. But, it was still very very nice to see her and, I'll be seeing her again when I go to Köln next week. =) Later that afternoon, Mama, Papa and I went for a walk around the Sorpesee, a lake in the area. Just a few years ago, they re-did the area around the lake, with new walkways and play areas for kids. It's sooooo nice. There were quite a number ... read more

The weather today was cold and rainy. Despite that, it was such a wonderful day. Juli and Christian got married. They were wed at the church in Allendorf at 11am. The service was a fairly typical catholic service. In many ways, the wedding was much like those in the US. If I were to detail the whole day, this would be a very long entry, so I'll mostly just detail the differences. When we walked into the church, I was surprised not to see Christain, the groom standing at the alter. I just figured he must just be standing out of my sight. But nope, he wasn't up in front. When the wedding march sounded on the organ, Juli and Christian walked up the aisle together. Typically here, the fatehr does not give the bride away. ... read more

Yesterday, I left home and a 3 hour car ride, almost 11 hour flight and another 2 1/2 hour car ride I arrived home. =) It feels so good to be back in Germany. The plane ride was uneventful, exactly the way it should be. I was sooo excited when we finally landed in Frankfurt. I knew my papa was waiting for me and I couldn't wait to see him. I was going to have to be patient though, as it took over an hour to get off the plane, walk thorugh the airport (and walk and walk and walk), go through customs and get my bag. When I was finally able to walk through the doors exiting out to where people were waiting to meet passengers I was thouroughly exhausted but also filled with excitement ... read more

Hello again! So I'm finally able to take the time to fill you in on my weekend. I got home from Germany around 830 last night, and after Skyping my mom and Sarah, I was too tired and just wanted to go to bed. Anyway, my trip to see Mona was great! I felt pretty adventurous taking the train all by myself. On my way there I actually did have to use the small of German that I know to figure out what train I was supposed to take from Cologne. This old couple was really helpful and just replied to me in English... clearly I wasn't a local. However, I misunderstood what they told me and ended up getting off the train two stops too early in the Middle of Nowhere, Germany. I was kinda ... read more

Today we left Hanjo’s house and we are waiting for our plane to Mailand. That’s german for MILANO, BABY!!!! We are really excited for the next chapter of our trip but we will definitely still think back on the awesome time we had in Germany with our very good friends. Last night was the most memorable part. My sister and I went out with Hanjo's sons and Hanjo gave us the keys to the apartment so that we wouldn't have to wake anyone up when we came home and we could come back at any time. We had a beer and talked at their apartment with Moritz's girlfriend there too and we just laughed about all the differences between our cultures and about all the interesting things that we discovered during our stay. Later they dropped ... read more

Construction on the cathedral began in 1248, and ended in 1473, although the building was not complete. Work began again in the 19th century, and the cathedral was finished in 1880. Renovations still occur because of air pollution damage to the stone, and some repairs for damage incurred during WWII are still necessary. The cathedral is 515 ft. high and 474 ft. long, in which its spires are the second tallest in the world after the Lutheran church in Ulm, but the cathedral does have the world's largest church facade.... read more

Hello er’body! :) I feel like the only appropriate way to start this blog is to say how much I love Germany. Every time I go there I have the best time! It could be because when I go there it is Christmas, or New Year’s, or I’m 10 years old; I get to eat home cooked meals, be with really fun people and go to weddings. It could be because of all of those things, but I think it’s just Germany and all the people in it. My latest German adventure was Jana and Andreas’ wedding! You may remember them from back in January when I got to spend about it week with them in Düsseldorf over New Years. Jana lived with our family for five months in 2000 while she was doing her year ... read more

Hi, so this blog's gonna be about my travel through Europe. I will travel with a friend of mine - Pascal through Germany, Czech Republick, Austria, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Morocco and the whole way back : ) I am really excited about that, because I "planned" this trip for about 9 months and now, finally after my A-Levels I have a lot of time to reach all the goals I want to reach in my life. Generally, if there will be some other interesting things I want to share with you, I will do this. And this is quite possible, because I will travel to Perugia with Nina (perhaps) and hopefully there will be much more exciting things to write about :) Additionaly, sorry for my english : P... read more

Hello my dears It's a rainy day here and so I will have a bit of a rest from sightseeing. I am staying with a very nice couple ( Hospitality exchange again) in Emmerich on the Rhein - and you an see Holland from here. One wonders about our penchant for border security in the UK when here you are flashing about on motorways from France to Belgium to Holland and Germany - never stopping for pasports or customs- only a cctv camera to catch you. We certainly seem to have put up the drawbridge compared to the rest of Europe. So leaving the White Cliffs of Dover on Sunday morning the sun was shining and the sea was calm ( goody no Kwells this time) I arrived in Dunkerque 2 hours later. Ferries to France ... read more
