We left our friends Sam and Roy after spending a few relaxing days with them. What a life waking up late, listening to the cocks crowing in the farm down the road. Cock a reeko apparently is the sound they make not cock a doodle doo. We enjoyed walking the dogs in the fields near the house and sitting in the evenings under the bamboo shade watching the sun setting. How jealous I felt with their life style - for us just two weeks before going back to Glenn and his kitchen fitting and me the jobcentre. We set off for the Chateau de Josselin which stands in south Brittany on the river Oust. It is still the home of the original family. It has three majestic towers which overlook the river. I though the view ... read more

I'm still alive! And still in France. Since the knowledge that all of my classmates are in the thick summer right now, things have felt diffrent. Another big change was getting settled in a new apartment. My trusty home of 317 Vaugirard was cleaned out and abanoned, and I hauled all my stuff to an apartment on the outer edge of southern Paris. Bertrand, the exchange student who went to Calarts has retured to Gobelins with a gorgeous film and familiar stories. In a few days my flatmate will move in, a 50 year old Chinese fellow named Ming. I don't have telephone, internet, or a mailbox, and the metro station is a fair walk away. All of these changes mark the last leg of my France stay and give life totally diffrent flavor. I spent ... read more

This is something my sister has demanded of me! To start sending through stories and photos of my trips so that she and others back home can see that I'm NOT lying in a ditch somewhere with a broken leg and no money or passport :) Having been making my way in the UK for a year now, this is just the latest of my many trips around the world ..... to anyone else who may be reading this, I hope you enjoy!... read more

As we write our third installment of the blog, we would like to welcome several new readers to the blog who have been added and tell everyone that our trip is still going marvelously. Right now, we are sitting on a train from Paris to Amsterdam (Jacob is napping…surprise surprise) as I sit and have my second espresso (a definite new favorite) of the morning. Between the two of us we churned out a little description of our four full days in Paris. We know its long, but we hope you enjoy our musings wherever you may be reading them. As to pictures, many are finally up and others are loading as you read this on our pic site at http://www.dotphoto.com/go.asp?l=jperlin&p=F950&AID=2504676&Pres=Y and although many do not have titles feel free to just scroll and enjoy. What a crazy and jam packed weekend that I have had so far!! On Thursday, my last night in Madrid, I went out with Dulce, Andy and Sean to La Latina (a quarter in Madrid much like its equivalent in Paris...full of young people and cafes). Dulce recommended some places for the boys to hang out for their last few days in Madrid. I left the boys at their metro stop and went with Dulce to meet her boyfriend Carlos at another locale. We didn't stay out too late because we had to wake up early. I took the bus at 9 am to Barcelona and had one last cafe con leche with Dulce at the station. I didn't arrive in Barcelona until around 5 because of traffic. My other friend Saioa met me at the ... read more

Hi everyone! I know it's been a while since our last blog, but we've been REALLY busy! Paris has been wonderful, that is except for the French! We hope we don't insult anyone but they really ARE rude! Even if you try to speak french to them, they just roll their eyes at you and speak back to you in English! And poor Graeme, they keep telling him he speaks french badly! He certainly speaks it better than me! Oh well, everything else is great! Well, i'm sorry to disapoint you all but this is about all i can say for this travel journal because we no longer have free internet and we have a lot to do still, but hopefully the pictures will fill you all in! Besides, that's really what you want to see, ... read more

My flights all went well. I met a really nice girl in Boston who took me under her wing and we went down to Harvard \square and walked around for a while. Boston is a great city...may be someplace that would be fun to visit again. I arrived in Zurich on time. I got a cappucino and looked into getting an earlier flight to Paris. I spent enough time and was tired from my day allready that I did not go and explore Zurich (sorry Susan). It looked beautiful from the plane though. The land reminded me of a painting, if I had studied more I might remember what painting it is. The flight to Paris was over an hour late so we arrived around 2:00pm. I made my way to the baggage claim (there was ... read more

Here's the rest of the Bordeaux trip... bon appetite! Yesterday, I got up at 9AM, had a nice breakfast, and wandered into the city to find a gift for my wonderful host. I went down to the walking mall area again but veered off onto some back streets that ended up being quite lively, too-- I think I wandered into a more Asiatic sector of town by looks of the restaurants and such. It was great-- quite a different aspect than the stuff I'd seen earlier. I ended up buying a plant there for Nini. The shopkeeper at the plant store tried to talk to me in French, and I kind of understood, but mostly gave him blank looks and said "oui oui" a lot, though I had no idea what he was talking about. He ... read more

(Sorry this took me so long to get onto the site. I wrote it a few weeks ago but just now had the time to get it online. AND my computer is really slow putting pics up, so that might be later still! Hope you enjoy reading of my final adventures in Bordeaux, though!) I hate good-byes. When I parted with Virginie (my pen pal) on the train platform this morning, I wished I didn't have to go. Strangely, although we've known each other for years, I feel I really know her now, and it's like I've met my long lost sister. We got along so well, it is now no wonder we wrote to each other for so long. This was the perfect end to my semester abroad, and I look forward to returning to ... read more

Europe » France » Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur » Nice June 6th 2005

Hello Everybody, Hope all is well with you all! Today, about 7:30a, we sailed into the port at Villefranche, France. From Mom: This area is the French Riviera, also known as the Cote d'Azure (Blue Coast). Monte Carlo is the most beautiful region I have ever seen. As I'm typing this for Michael, it is 9:21p, the sun is setting (it sets late here) and the lights are twinkling on the cliffs, no words for it! First we went to Nice and spent a little while there. It was pretty in Nice and we did some shopping there. I was bored because if we're not buying toys, I don't care for shopping. It was very early when we got to Nice and most of the kids shops were still closed:( After Nice, we drove to Monte ... read more
