Ah oui ma cherie, zis is zee fuhrst time in zee pareeee for meh, zoh az you can eeemagine, i ad zee kind of excitment zat not even ah weeping toddler can bear... But first we had to get out of Brussels, but not before eating the biggest pizza I have stuffed down my stomach to date. There was a lot of waiting and smoking and finding ways to sleep comfortably en route to Paris. Seriously, I have short legs and even I had cramped leg space. I curled up in a big ball-shaped ball at least attempting pretend to look comfortable while I tried to better my situation by thinking of all the long-legged/ tall people I hate and how hard their lives are and what they would look like with humps on their backs. ... read more

I forgot that if I write about going to France under the same entry with my trip to Baden Baden, I don't get credit on my cool Blogger map for having gone to France. This, obviously, will not do. Be it known that on this date, I went to France. About 500 meters into France, to be precise. And had flammkuchen. For further details, see my entry for Baden Baden. :)... read more

Hello all....it's a beautiful day in Brugge, and why am I in an internet cafe, you ask? Pretty much because I've been hit hard by the Belgian beer : ) and there's too many tourists wandering about during the day for me to cope with at the moment. This place is much easier to get around at night when there's less people, and all the buildings and canals are lit by the sunset. I got here yesterday afternoon, and it's still pretty warm by Edmonton standards. Before that, Amsterdam was way, way worse, though. Thirty-two degrees during the day kind of worse. I had a lot of fun there, and met 2 guys at the hostel who were from Edmonton. We entertained each other during our stay by guessing which tourists were going to drop from ... read more

Hey what is crackin' y'all! I am just kickin' here on the Mediterranean in a town called Cassis in the south of France. Just got done swimming on the Med. and jumping off some cliffs into the water. I met up with my fam the other day and the villa is fantastic. The weather could not be better. A great way to end my journeys. London was great...I went to Wimbledon!!!!!!!!!!! That was so freakin cool. Anyway...I'll have to update you all on that at some point...I gotta bounce.... read more

Hello everyone! Paris and I are getting along well. I was a little concerned when I got here that I was too tired and worn out to really enjoy it. However, it may be the best way to see the city. Our first day here, we went to two museums and did a boat tour. A lot for one day. After that we decided to just relax and see where it took us. One of my favorite things about Paris is the people watching. All you really need is a cappucino and a good view at a corner cafe and you can be entertained for hours. The city has given us a good welcome and I feel very comfortable and at home here. Everyone has been very nice to us and in my opinion, we have ... read more

Hey everyone! Some friends and I took a day trip to go to Nimes about a half hour away. Must say that I am feeling that we got the shaft being sent to Avignon, as Nimes is much more beautiful and less hot. We stayed at the park all day, walked around a bit and had lunch. Pretty low key, but that's what I like to do in a new city....not too much of a tourist. I am off to the pool in a little bit to enjoy the simple pleasure of dunking myself in ice cold water. Really have learned how to enjoy the simple things in life. We are off to Cassis tomorrow to swim and see the Calanques (big lagoon-like structures that were carved out by glaciers). So, ya, excited to be in ... read more

For all you sex in the city fans out there... Ok, so Paree! For the last 2 nights we have stayed with JoJo, amy's aunt. She is very nice and let us in her home with open arms. Her two sons are adorable. We went to 2 museums and a boat tour yesterday. Today brings the challenge of finding a place to stay for the next few nights. Paris does not have the same charm that it did when I first flew in. Maybe I am tired and have seen too many cities to be blown away by anything any more. I am hoping my attitude will change and last till next week. We will take it easy for the next two days, go to see Versailles, a very large and magnificent castle, then it's shopping ... read more

This is as accurate and honest an account of my time in Bordeaux as memory, decency and legality permit. It was a place and time where the laws of man and nature were momentarily suspended to permit me a gulp of life direct from the mountain source. From Berlin These are the exact kind of spirited, lively and attractive Spanish people I am born to love! They are the poster Euros, the new generation. I can't believe I ended up in a sleeper car with 5 of them! I wish they would shut the hell up and let me get some sleep! Sensing my exhaustion, the girl opposite me chews her lip and her eyes roll back in her head as she searches for the right words. They inch out, one at a time. There's drama. ... read more

We are still in Lille...wish there were more options in the city department in the menus on here. Driving success for sure; we are very proud of ourselves. Carolyn navigated and I drove and we not only found Armentieres and many, many cemeteries but I used roundabouts without getting lost and without hitting any other cars or any pedestrians. In two countries, yet! Bedford House cemetery is easy to find; MapQuest gives good directions. Seeing hundreds upon hundreds of graves of young men, all under 40, the majority under 30, and many under 20 is startling. Cemeteries always have many graves but only war cemeteries have graves almost exclusively for young men, graves filled in the span of 4 years. We found the grave of my dear grandmother's beloved Freddy and I placed on it the ... read more

Bonjour! We got into Paris on June 21st, so we've now been here 3 days. I'm just now posting (finally!) because the first time we came into the Internet cafe, I ended up with a French keyboard, with all the letters in different places. After being awake over 24 hours, it was way too much for my brain! The first day, after sleeping 12 hours, we did all the tourist stuff: climbed the Arc de Triumph, walked down Champs Elsysee, went in the Louvre to see the Mona Lisa, climbed the Notre dame tower, etc. etc. We've been eating a lot of tomato and mozzarella sandwiches, since they're very tasty and very cheap! Also, lots of pizza ( I know, we're not in Italy yet). And of course, we've been enjoying our fair share of wine. ... read more
