SO...I don't even know how to begin about this weekend! We woke up early on Saturday and left for Provins, where we got some breakfast (and a sweater because it was freezing) at the market. Then we went up to the medieval area of town. We paid a couple of euros and they let us in the old prison tower. It was amazing. Nothing was closed off to us and we could explore every nook and cranny (probably because its not a real tourist town). Ashley took some video of it, and I have awesome pictures. Ashley and I were retarded and wore our fur lined slippers we had bought the day before out, because our feet were cold, and then it started raining. We were slipping and sliding everywhere, but I only fell down one ... read more

Our contiki tour started on Friday 8 July in London. We were planning to stay the night at the hotel that the tour started from but given the events in London we were not able to get to our hotel. So we stayed at a friends place, which meant an early start, we tried booking a cab but could not so at 5am we were walking up the road trying to hail a cab. The cabbie could not take us all the way to the hotel because the area was still all blocked, so we walked in. At every street corner we were met by police who questioned where we were going. By the time we got there we had passed about 20 cops. Then at the hotel there were at least another 20 out the ... read more

Im sorry guys, Im just not coming home. Haha, I wish. But I wont lie, I am considering it. This place is absolutely amazing. I was worried Thursday that we would never make it, but after running to the travel agency and attempting to speak in Spanish, French, and English, managed to get tickets home from Paris on Sunday night. Then we ran to the train, where we had an international fiesta and slept. Ashley's artist friend Kippie Hammond met us at the train station, and we continued on to pick up her son Micheal who was arriving from the US today also. We met at Kippie's boyfriends apartment in Paris then went to get the car. Thats when I decided I was not going home. We were in a hurry so stopped for a pastry ... read more

Today was truly a travel day. The bus ride from Nice to Barcelona was scheduled for 10 hours, and that's under the best of conditions. We didn't encounter the best of conditions. We did get to see a furniture truck reduced to a pile of ash - literally. Apparently, wooden furniture and diesel fuel burn pretty well together.... That kept the highway a nice parking lot for close to 2 hours. The stopover before that in Avignon was nice, but short. I was surprised to see that Avignon's walls are almost completely intact. I was also surprised to see the size of the pope's palace. I knew it was opulent, but I didn't realize it took up half the town centre! The official story if I remember is that the two resident popes were recalled because ... read more

Salve! Spent the weekend in Paris with my friend Veronyca. It was amazing and exhausting! The French and their city are quite elegant. Saw all the famous sights--Notre Dame, the Louvre, Eiffel Tower, etc. Walked down the Champs Elysees and took in everything French. Had some delicious crepes at a little cafe near the Eiffel Tower. All the French were very nice and accomodating. My favorite thing to do there was to sit out on the lawn in front of the Eiffel Tower people watching--some were reading, picnicking, or playing a pick up game of soccer. Very relaxing. I didn't think the city was particularly "romantic" but I could see how a couple might enjoy a simple picnic as the sun sets on the tower. Another cool thing that I saw was a group of string ... read more

The original plan was to spend a day in Aix-en-Provence. That pretty much went down the drain last night when I went on S.N.C.F's (French train company) website. A return trip from Nice to Aix would have run me almost 60 euros. I really shouldn't have been surprised; I knew train travel in France wasn't cheap, and that the Côte d'Azur regional trains are merely exceptions to this rule. Hence, having no three hour (per direction) train trip to look forward to, I let myself sleep in today. I needed it, as one of my dormmates almost matched the record I observed set in my London hostel for the most inhumanly loud snoring ever. Anyways, with some time on my hands, and no real desire to wander through the shopping paradise that is Nice, I got ... read more

I woke up rather late today at 9:30. I was actually very tempted to just go back to sleep or down to the promenade and vegetate all day. In the end though, the "gung-ho" part of my travelling personality won: I'm only in Nice for 3 days, and I'm not going to be stopping at Avignon. In other words, this is it for the French Riviera. Thus, I hauled myself to the train station and got on a regional train to Monaco (€6.5 return). The minute you get out of the train station into the area around Port Hercule, it becomes very clear that this is the playground of the rich. I wasn't even aware some of the larger and more extravagant yachts lining the harbour existed. I didn't really feel all that comfortable in Monaco ... read more

It was easy to travel to the entrance of Mont St-Michel from Gare Pontorson Mont St-Michel. The regional SNCF train arrived on time from Dol-Bretagne and the autocar (bus) was waiting only 250m from the station building. Couriers Bretton bus is only 1.40euros each way to base of Mont St-Michel and runs about 8 times during summer. If you have a backpack you can leave this at Mont St-Michel for the day. Just go through the main entrance then up the second flight of stairs on the left where the toilets are. The toilet attendant will secure your back pack/luggage for 2.00euros for the whole day. There are no luggage lockers at Gare Pontorson Mont St-Michel. Warning you can make the trip from Caen or Bayeux in one day by train, but I would not recommend ... read more

Here I am, officially started on Busabout! I am currently driving through France, about three hours outside of Paris. So, the night before I left London was pretty brutal. Already pissed off about Robbie belonging to another (and, of course, I now consider him the love of my life), I went to my room where my silly, immature roomies were packing. They had to leave to catch a flight at 4:20 this morning, so they didn't want to sleep at all. I tried to sleep despite the lights being on and them having pillow fights, but they were so loud and so annoying. I nearly told them to leave the room or else shut up, but of course I said nothing. Finally, I got to sleep. I'm not on the same bus with Belinda, but I ... read more
