Hello everyone! Well, we have finally arrive in Paris, France and we have absolutely no idea what the hell is going on! We are your typical tourist who doesn't speak a lick of french. But needless to say slowly but surely we are getting along and also getting a lot of funny looks and laughs. Our flights went great. The flight over here had movies and video games so that kept us entertained, i was able to sleep a bit but justin pretty much stayed up, so we're both beat. Our hotel is interesting, that's always a good word, but there is lots to see around it and there are many fun eateries, cafes and seems to be cheap wine. Tonight we plan on going to the Eiffel Tower for the evening tour....get your money ready ... read more

Bonjour! We got into Paris on June 21st, so we've now been here 3 days. I'm just now posting (finally!) because the first time we came into the Internet cafe, I ended up with a French keyboard, with all the letters in different places. After being awake over 24 hours, it was way too much for my brain! The first day, after sleeping 12 hours, we did all the tourist stuff: climbed the Arc de Triumph, walked down Champs Elsysee, went in the Louvre to see the Mona Lisa, climbed the Notre dame tower, etc. etc. We've been eating a lot of tomato and mozzarella sandwiches, since they're very tasty and very cheap! Also, lots of pizza ( I know, we're not in Italy yet). And of course, we've been enjoying our fair share of wine. ... read more

i got up today and traveled to Paris. the train ride wasn't as bad as the last ones although it did take about 3 and a half hours to get there. I ended up getting inparis at about one o'clock in the afternoon and immediately started to look for a place to stay. I hadn't booked a place before hand so I wasn't reallz sure what I was going to do. I ended up just hiking around for about a half hour before I just couldn't stand lugging around my 50lb pack. At that point I just decided that I would just splurge and get a decent hotel for the night. Aparently the area where I got off the train the hotels were running about 170.00 euro a night (about 210 dollars) so I had to ... read more

This was a lot of fun! We started off the evening "checking in" to our chateaux, really it was an extremely old french mansion and we stayed there with everyone on the same floor with 2 toilets for 40+ ppl. But being able to brush your teeth and look out the window at a vinery in the french countryside is priceless! We then went to a place where wine is made and had winetasting with cheese- it was also good. We ended up buying two bottles- pretty cheap though for excellent cab- the funny part was that it was all the canadians left at the end who stayed trying to get seconds (which we did!) After dinner there was a big party themed Shock Your Mother, meaning you had to dress in a way that would ... read more

Drink in the atmosphere, enjoy our included picnic lunch and explore the French countryside - the choice is your. Walked to 'the top of the world' today. Woke up at 8 and had breakfast of some weird scrambled eggs that had potato and fatty ham in them, yoghurt and muesli, then began our hour long journey. We walked through the vineyards to a quaint little town called Thieze, where we stopped to use the bathroom. Finally got to the top at about 11, with mud everywhere. It was freezing. We had our packed picnic lunches of baguettes with fromage, ham and tomatoes, and fruit. We'd bought wine from the bar at the chateau, but most people were too hungover to have any. The view was magnificent, looking over the vineyards with villages in between. Walked ... read more

'Au revoir' Paris as we head south to the Beaujolais vineyards near Lyon. We spend the next 2 nights at Contiki's exclusive Chateau de Cruix. On our way to the Chateau! Got up at 7 this morning to pack everything so we were ready to leave. Had croissants for breakfast this morning, as well as the usual fruit, yoghurt, cereal and danishes. After breakfast we swept and mopped out our cabins, then packed all our bags on the coach. Had our first rest stop at Chateau Fontainebleau, where Napolean lived for a while. Our second rest stop was at an autogrill, and we saw ladies coming out of the toliets with their dogs ! Did introductions when we got back on the bus, which took almost 2 hours and made the time fly. Was really ... read more

I understand why everyone in France goes to the coast for the summer... its really really hot here. Well, it was hot until a wonderful rainstorm last night, and i am enjoying the cooler day today, but doubt it will last long. On Sunday Ghislain and I met up with Tania, and the 3 of us went to Musèe Picasso. YAY. Museums in France are all in big old houses/chateaus. Mussèe Picasso is no different, so the actual building just added to the expereince. For lunch Tania had her first falafel expereince at Ghislains favorate falafel place. It was Israeli style, and some of the best that i have had in years. Ghislain was aboslutely awesome and took Tania and I to the train station and helped us find everything we needed. (Now we know all ... read more

Arrived into sunny, warm Lyon today for a week long skiing holiday - great view from the plane of flat green farmland all around? Where the heck are the mountains? Those of you who know me will be thinking that is typical of Little Miss Geography Teacher !! I had a fair idea of where I was headed but expected to be able to see evidence of hills and snow from the aeroplane - it was at that point I realised I probably had a long bus journey ahead of me in search of some snow that was worthy of hiring skis!! Sitting at the exit definately has its advantages - extra leg room being the main one but I also managed to be first off the plane and the first to get my luggage and ... read more
