We left Bitburg, Germany very early on Thursday and drove to Nürnberg, where we turned in our rental car and got on a bus to Praha. The bus ride took about 3 1/2 hours. We found Jennifer, who was in Prague as part of her Cold War history tour, and took her out for dinner. We stayed at the Hotel General, which was nice, but it was quite a walk from the old town, so we took a lot of Uber rides back and forth. On Friday, we saw the Pražsky Hrad castle complex, Strahove Monastery, Wenceslas square, Charles Bridge, old town, and the town square with the astronomical clock. Saturday, 22nd April 2017 Breakfast at the Sovereign Hotel was a sumptuous affair with 3 varieties of sausages, well-cooked veggies, salads and plenty of breads to choose from. From the hotel, we mapped out our walking route to cover most of the Old Town sites on foot. The only place that required public transport was our journey to Petrin Tower via the iconic funicular from Ujezd Station. The Old Town is littered with monuments, private museums and dark towers. We chanced upon Henry's Tower which we thought it was the Powder Tower initially. Anyway, both towers looked rather similar and the Henry's Tower made some nice memories when photographed against the charming red trams that crisscrossed the city. After a 4 hour train journey, most of which I spent asleep dribbling down myself, Minx and I had arrived in city 3: Prague. We had been promised 70p pints, and nothing but the sesh from east to west. But when we arrived in the train station, I was well under the weather, and got minx to direct us to our accommodation. With it being Easter weekend, we saved abit more money by renting an AirBnB. We walked up the hilly streets of Prague to meet Theresa, one of the owners of the flat. She gave us the keys and went on her way. Heute bin ich zuerst mit der Straßenbahn etwas in den Norden nach Holesovice gefahren. Dort habe ich mir das Kunstmuseum Veletrzni Palac angesehen. In den letzten 12 Monaten war ich ja auch in den Kunstmuseen von Linz, Helsinki, Stockholm, Arhus, Graz und München. Das von Prag ist in einem großen aber unauffälligem neueren Gebäude untergebracht. Während dieser Zeit hat es leicht angefangen zu regnen, aber ich hatte einen Regenschirm, wenn auch keine Jacke, dabei. Im Museum habe ich auch noch Kaffee getrunken. Danach bin ich mit der Straßenbahn nach Stare Mesto und war im Konvent St. Agnes. Das war auch sehr sehenswert, weil sehr alt. Gestern habe ich schön ausgeschlafen, gefrühstückt und bin dann mit einem Zug des privaten Anbieters "Alex" nach Prag gefahren. Das hat eine Weile gedauert und diese Strecke könnte man ruhig mal ausbauen. ICE-Verbindungen von Dresden und Nürnberg nach Prag wären wirklich toll. Auf der tschechischen Seite hat dann auch noch das WLAN gut funktioniert. Auf der deutschen Strecke leider nicht. Das ist noch so ein Punkt. Das Publikum auf der Strecke war international. Von angelsächsischen Rucksacktouristen, die dort mit Erdnussbutter gefrühstückt haben, über die üblichen Asiaten und auch anderen war alles dabei. Es ist eben doch eine Touristenstrecke. Vor allem an diesem verlängertem Wochenende. Am Bahnhof in Prag habe ich dann Geld getauscht. Ich wollte es zuerst an einem Automaten machen, aber da war der Kurs schlecht und vielleicht hätte ich zusätzlich noch eine Automatengebühr zahlen ... read more
