I stayed up late trying to blog but kept dozing off. I optimistically booked a 10:00 free walking tour through Sandeman. I knew wasn’t going to make it then, but there was a 10:45 am slot available I almost didn’t make that one. I walked down to the Old Town and it was quite hot out. We had a Czech as our tour guide. It seems like Czech humour is a bit self-deprecating as seen in his explanations for historical sights. On the tour I met a beautiful Brazilian woman Patricia. The tour was not exactly free as the guide said he’d be more that willing to accept donations once the tour was over. After the walking tour was done we walked around a bit ourselves and got some gelato. On one end of the Charles’ ... read more

Running on three hours of sleep, I got my ass up and ready. Everyone else was still sleeping. I felt like that asshole in a movie theater trying to not make noise when opening a bag of chips but is super loud anyways. I grabbed breakfast and a snack for the flight. Security is pretty relaxed and is not anything like when you leave Canada. I slept for almost the entire flight after some jackass dropped a full water bottle on me trying to load his bag in the overhead compartment. The lady at the metro kiosk in the airport was a bit rude, but maybe that’s the way people are here. The bus driver was equally as rude and drove like mad man. The metro train I got on after the bus didn’t stop where ... read more

Y ... read more

I found my hostel in Prague, and was instantly made to feel very welcome. The people who work there have a few nights that they make food for everyone (which can be up to 200 people), and they put activities on every day & night. That night was free food and a musical talent show as there was a piano and guitar for people to play. All the people staying at the hostel were really friendly, and it’s the best hostel I have stayed in so far. After dinner I was taught how to play the card game, Irish snap…(which if you don’t know it, causes potentially severe injury to fingers!) and then a group of us went out for drinks at a local bar. The bar may be the strangest place I have been! It ... read more

Today we took the train and ferry which brought us over to the Czech side of the Saxony region. Some notable differences..... it was not quite as clean as the German side, in Hrensko the Asians had set up shop stalls which looked more like Thailand than Europe and overall prices were alot more reasonable than in Germany...... beer cost $1euro vs $4euros. Our walk for the day took us up up up a very nice trail into the mountains and to the top of one of the sandstone formations. It is always amazing how they can get a restaurant at the top of each of these hiking trails and this one was no exception. The highlight was a natural stone bridge. This was one of the nicest trails we took on our trip. The ascent...although ... read more

The bus departed from Municipal Square at 9 o’clock and went to the Old Town Square and picked up more tourists. The guide was a multi-lingual speaker – he is a native Czech/Slovak speaker – and gave English/Spanish commentary throughout the day. While the bus was driving through the city centre and along the riverside, the guide pointed at several historic attractions – Charles Bridge, National Theatre, Dancing House and Vysehrad, where Prague’s history had begun. He told us that it would take 3 and half hours to the destination, Cesky Krumlov, including the stop at the Drive Through (where all the passengers were allowed to have a break and go to the restroom). On the way to the destination, he talked about Czech Republic’s general history, economy, industry and politics in English and Spanish. It ... read more
