Train travel from Prague to Vienna to Zurich to Rome possible? What pass works best for a couple?
I've scoured the net for suggestions on how to do this. I'm on a business trip to Prague next month but have 4-5 days towards the end of the month to "sight-see" some other cities. What are some economical options? It seems I can take a direct train from Prague to Vienna, then to Zurich, followed by Rome, and maybe Venice if there is time. My return flight can be from Rome but if it is too expensive, I'll need to get back to Prague for a round trip back home to USA.
I will have my wife as a companion.
My questions are:
1) Is there a good pass that works? If so, can I purchase it now (trip is in Mid-Oct)
2) If not, can I go ala-carte in purchasing train tics? How do I manage?
3) Finally, any reasonable recommendations on hotels in these cities?
I hope the agenda does not sound too taxing. We really want to check these places out now because I'm not sure if we'll be able to go there again for a long time. Thanks for any help.

I would try to score bargain flights and train tickets. Maybe there are still some available for Mid October. And night trains for some of the journeys would be economical with time and money because it would save you some accomodation costs.
Try the official trains sites for the various countries, to see if they currently have special offers. I dont know which inexpensive arilines fly those routes.
