Day 1 Of Anthony & Liza's European Vacation

Hello from Prague,

We arrived 30 minutes early this morning thanks to the Jet stream, and managed to pull dad away from the lovely and intelligent woman he was sitting beside for 8 hours. We probably managed to to get 3-4 hours sleep which wasn't too bad.

We found a cab easily, and made our way to the hotel. Along the way as dad bonded in Czech with the driver, he took a detour and we drove to the apartment building where my dad and his family lived when they returned to Prague from Shanghai in 1946. We all got out of the cab and took pictures, my dad was beaming, he was beyond happy to visit this place and tell us stories about their life and how he and his best friend Gustov got into trouble with the Communists at the corner. Apparently Gustov ended up in a Uranium mine in Siberia! Dad was lucky to find his way to Canada.

We arrived at the hotel around 8:45am expecting to have to keep busy waiting for our rooms, but low and behold the rooms were ready. So we freshened up and had a small breakfast in the hotel, then went for a good walk through the Old Town. Anthony was amazed and listened intently to dad's stories as we walked. We reviewed the busy itinerary for the week and made some decisions about when we would do what.

We all crashed this afternoon for several hours, and then hit the old square for a beer and to watch the clock. Dinner was dad's favourite restaurant and we ALL had the Svetckova (a beef in gravy and dumpling dish) saying goodbye to my healthy diet for the next two weeks, hoping I don't regain the 10 lbs I've lost! Fruit is on the menu for tomorrow morning 😊
