Só ... read more

Hey all, I've been in Prague the past week. My first night here sucked, however. My daypack with my passport, credit cards, money, camera, and pretty much everything else vital to travel was stolen while I slept at the hostel. Other than that, Prague's been great. Very affordable, fortunately. The castle here is kinda like Versailles, but with a big huge gothic cathedral in the middle of it. The Jewish quarter of the town is really interesting too. The cemetery there has about 100,000 people buried in it. The Jewish community didn't have permission to start another graveyard for the longest time, so they kept burying people on top of each other. Apparently, there's 12 layers of bodies there. There's definitely a million and one tombstones. Anyways, I'm off to Vienna tomorrow, hopefully to continue my ... read more

this is my new Travel blog so I thought I'd make an update. I'm thrilled to death to be leaving in 15 days on my first trip out of the US. I'm 18 at the time and I am traveling with a former teacher, her best friend, and a friend/love intrest. Things I'm worried about: 1. Offending someone/ being taken for a stupid American 2. Not having enough money to survive 3. Losing my passport 4. Getting sick of my companions 5. Getting depressed. lonely, or homesick Other then that, everything should be great............ read more

Hi All We have finally found a place to download our photos that doesn't cost us the price of a ticket back home. Any way lots to catch up on. We landed in London 30 hours after leaving home and it was 7.15am and not much sleep. Tania saw us to the apartment and then went off to work and we were instructed to go see London. So we did. We have been to every where and even caught a show in London. (The Lion King). Then 2 days later we were off to Paris on the Eurostar train. We did all the tourist spots in Paris including the top of the tower. (Vanessa you would have loved it!) From there we did Disney and Tania had a ball not to mention the oldies. We went ... read more

Can you believe these pictures are all taken inside the Prague city limits? Is there any other city where I am within half a mile of a major street and yet feel as if I am standing in the Shenandoah National Park in Virginia? There may be another city with such a vista, but if there is I do not know where it is. Though there is a major street within half a mile of this spot the only sounds heard are the sounds of nature. The Sarka Valley can be seen snaking its way between the two mountains. It was up this valley that the 53rd Russian Tank Division used to hide from the Germans when they liberated Prague. The German plan was to destroy Prague as they retreated from the city. Fortunately the Russians ... read more

Would you like to live near the king? Would you like to be employed by the King? Would you like to have to keep the King, the Queen and other big wigs in the castle happy? There was a time, long ago, when everyone who lived on the Golden Lane lived there at the pleasure of the king. Later, the lane became a slum and one of the most dangerous places in the city. Interestingly Franz Kafka lived for several months with his sister in house #22. Jaroslav Seifert, the Nobel prize winning poet also lived on this street. The last residents of the lane were moved out in the 1950's after which the lane was restored. Now the houses are shops selling books, postcards and numerous other items to tourists. Nancy and I had just ... read more

I had to take some clothes to the dry cleaners today. It is much too warm to wear wool now, even on the cool days. The dry cleaners is not far away, but does require a bus ride, one stop, and then either a two hundred walk, or a one stop tram ride. I only had to wait about two minutes for the bus. As I crossed the street at the tram stop a tram arrived, so I rode it to the next stop. A tram was just pulling up when I walked from the dry cleaners to the street, so I hopped aboard. Nancy and I have late duty tonight which means no supper unless I either made a sandwich or bought one. Buying one seemed the easier of the two choices, especially as I ... read more
