Who says librarians do not work? We are in the middle of the next big task, moving all the periodicals and putting them into a new arrangement. I could go into detail telling you how it was decided this move was necessary. I could bore you to death talking about call numbers, cutter numbers, alphabetical order, etc., but I won't. To make a long story short we are now ignoring the call and cutter numbers and moving all the magazines into alphabetical order. How many are there? I'm not sure, let's just say there are about 285 feet of shelving, filled with periodicals and everyone of them has to be moved. See the evidence Joyce, Doris where are you now that we need you? Let those doctors find their own stuff for a few days. After ... read more

"It's too nice to stay here," Nancy said. We had just finished our work for the day in the library. "Let's eat and go downtown." "Where ?" I wanted to know. "I'm not sure," she replied. The day was quite warm and neither of us wanted to go where we would walk in the sun. I pulled out our guidebook and our Prague city map. Looking over the map I spotted Stelecky Island, a small island in the middle of the Valtava River accessible only by a set of steps from a bridge. "Let's go here," I said pointing to the island on the map. "We have never been there and there are walking trails. After eating, we caught the bus from Jeneralka and then the subway and got off at the Mustek stop at the ... read more

well, to update you on my adventures. sorry but i haven't been diong much. the day after the bone church i stayed at the hostel all day and had a chill out day. our hostel is attached to a hotel so i had the yummy buffet breaky in the morning then sat in the japanese garden pretty much the whole day, writing in my journal and catching up etc. the weather has been amazing. hot and sunny with no wind. i'd say the temp is about 28 degress. absolutely perfect. yesterday i intended to do the castle. i got up there and bought my ticket, walked aroung the cathedral and then discovered how claustrophobic i was (there were lots and lots of people and it was hot) so i kind of freaked out a little bit ... read more

Hello Friends, Just the trip from Berlin to Prague was an eventful one. We made a lunch stop in the beautiful city of Dresden before heading for the Czech Republic boarder crossing. Upon arrival at the boarder we heard that an accident just on the other side had closed the highway. Rather than wait we turned the bus around and headed for another boarder crossing. This ride took us through narrow and winding roads in the Eastern German countryside. It was an added treat to our journey. Now that I’ve been to Prague I understand why it’s one of the most visited cities in the world. It is a postcard picture from every angle. Our city tour takes us to the Hradcany Castle and St. Vitus Cathedral. Then a walk through the city’s Jewish quarters before ... read more

prague is gorgeous. i had absolutely no idea what to expect but it is so beautiful. the buildings are very well kept, but medieval. the streets are very clean and cobble stoned. it's literally like a fairytale! i'm so glad i'm staying here for a week! gives me some time to really get to know the place. i went to kutna hora today. the bone church is there. it's amazing. a tad freaky but interesting. some guy in 1870 decided to decorate the church with human bones. there are chandeliers and everything. even his coat of arms on the wall - all made with skulls and bones from the whole body. so had a nice day trip today. yesterday i just went shopping - window shopping that is!! it's nice and relatively cheap here so i'm ... read more

Today was graduation day, a happy and a sad day. It was a happy day in that we were happy to see new friends receive their Certificate of Applied Theology, and others receive their Masters of Theology degrees. It was a sad day in that we know that the chance of seeing these wonderful young friends again is very slim. They will return to their home countries and begin their work or further education there and it is very unlikely that we will have the chance to meet them again. ... read more

The Peter and Paul Church sits high above the Vltava River and is one of our favorite churches in Prauge. None of the violent statues "adorn" the interior. In fact there are few statues in this church. Rather there are beautiful paintings and a beautiful ceiling. It was here that Princess Libuse pophesied that Prague would become a great city and it was here in the tenth century the first castle was built. During the passing centuries the castle and fort was destroyed and rebuilt a number of times. The entire complex of ruins and builds take up a good sized portion of land. It is not hard to see why a castle and fort was built here. The site sits high above the river giving a good view of the river and land on three ... read more
