So, currently I am sitting in an internet cafe in Salzburg. I actually had to look over at Steph for a sec and pause: 'Where are we again??' It's definitely starting to get that way as we jump from city to city, but the trip is getting nothing but better, and the adventures continue. It has also begun to warm up which is definitely a relief. I basically packed clothes for mediterranean beach weather, and a Vancouver spring, which is what I assumed the first half of our trip was going to be. I have been very much wrong so far. Amsterdam was freezing. We've experienced hail storms twice, once in Amsterdam and once in Berlin, and have endured many nights of freezing cold rain. So if it looks like we're wearing the same clothes in ... read more

The Chief architect of the trip has invited me to post a guest blog, so here goes.. We are sitting in a cigarette smoke filled empty internet cafe in Salyburg at 8.45 pm right now, after having got here at 4.00 and checking into the YoHo. We were apprehensive as to whether we will be able to finish seeing things here in 24 hrs, but we covered most of what one could walk and see in Old Town, including a few gift shops as well as taking photos, in all of 90 minutes and so I guess it wasnt as bad :) The highlights of today were the Hofburg treasury visit that we did in the morning at Vienna, where a certain member of our party (not me, clearly) stared and stared and stared in wonderment ... read more

After Nürenberg it was time to go to Salzburg. Stopped in Augsburg on the way, but wasn’t impressed by it, perhaps because it was raining... And what to say about Salzburg... Hmmm... Mozart on every corner, the house where he was born, a museum, several statues, every other street named after him and of course you can buy Mozart cakes, cookies, ham, clothes and probably a Mozart lap-dance. They are quite proud of him so it seems... Also have finally run into all those other tourists, unfortunately it’s the worst kind... The big tour groups of mostly Americans (sorry to all you Americans out there reading this... but I think you know the kind I mean) being very loud... Luckily by climbing up a hill you can escape them, they don’t seem to be able to ... read more

Today I got up early, showered, got dressed and French braided my hair like I have done just about everyday of this trip. I then went downstairs and had breakfast. I then went back up to my room, packed up my things, checked out and headed on my way. My first stop was to the Fortress. this fortress was commissioned around 1077. It was used as the home of the bishop of Salzburg, for Salzburg is called the Vatican north of the Alps. Actually Salzburg is call a lot of things "...North of the Alps"!!! Well, It took me forever to get to the Fortress because I decided to walk up the mini mountain and not take the tram up it. But it was worth it because it was a cold day and that kept me ... read more

Sound of Music Day Today I woke up quite early and took a shower! Oh it felt so good to take a shower. I was still nervous about everybody not speaking English. But I got dressed and ready for the day anyway. At 8 am I went down for breakfast. I had a bread, jam, butter, cereal with lukewarm milk. Kakao and coffee along with a glass of mineral water. The milk was whole but I t was cold, so that was aight. Then at 845 I went outside to waite for shuttle to come to take me to my sound of music tour. I was scared at first that I might have missed it cuz I was a feminutes late, but I didn’t two other girls from my hostel were going as well. So that ... read more

Salzburg, Austria: the home of Mozart, the set for the Sound of Music, and the site of large quantities of salt excavation. Mozart is everywhere here. There is no escaping his legacy, as you will find his name on hotels, his face plastered on signs, and a multitude of chocolates he appears to endorse in his latent state. He's quite a popular guy, it seems, though I haven't the slightest clue why. You'd think he was a great musician or something. Mozart must be a great guy, though, because he lets you explore his house, for a fee, of course, but we figured there was probably nothing exciting in his house--musicians are boring people, after all, aren't they?--so we decided to examine the outside of his dwelling. It was pretty and free, but mostly free. Further ... read more

No, No, No...not like that movie, but that is what was happening after todays travels. We would split! I would stay in Salzburg and Jacqueline would go back to London early. We took the train from Prague to Salzburg. It was a very stressful situation because at the Czech Republic train station, we had to switch trains and we only had five minutes to do so. So the morning and that first train was filled with quite a bit of tension. I just put my iPod on and read my book and dazed in and out. However, we shared our "box" with a man and woman and they both reeked of B.O. and the box was so hot and stuffy...i thought i was going to faint or something. Then, when we got to the train station, ... read more

Happy birthday to Mozart! Craig and I have just returned from the most incredible week enjoying the thrill of skiing in Austria. We stayed with Beda, a colleage of his, and were treated with the most amazing german hospitality. Due to space, Beda put us up in a typical austrian bed and breakfast - it even smelt austrian. That was my first introduction to what a "good austrian breakfast is" - its just a greater variety of breads and cheeses! Was most surpised to find "lunch" on the table instead of bacon and scrambled eggs! However the rest of the austrian cuisine is to die for - the little sausage guys - brokvurst or something - and apple strudel is AWSOME - both of which never taste better then at the top of a snow covered ... read more

Had a really funny flight over to Munich. I was working with this english guy Jamie and we got on like a house on fire. We were both in one of those really silly moods so after we finished the service we grabbed the onboard polaroid camera to amuse ourselves. We were obviously pretty bored so we decided to take pictures of ourselves pulling the most ridiculous faces, trying to look like absolute retards....it was so funny!! Then as most of the passengers were sleeping we thought it would be pretty funny to go out in the cabin and take pictures of unsuspecting passengers. We targeted the ones asleep with their mouths wide open, or men that were cuddled up next to other men beside them. It was such a laugh, we were laughing so hard ... read more
