Fortress
Pic from my hostel window! Today I got up early, showered, got dressed and French braided my hair like I have done just about everyday of this trip. I then went downstairs and had breakfast. I then went back up to my room, packed up my things, checked out and headed on my way. My first stop was to the Fortress. this fortress was commissioned around 1077. It was used as the home of the bishop of Salzburg, for Salzburg is called the Vatican north of the Alps. Actually Salzburg is call a lot of things "...North of the Alps"!!! Well, It took me forever to get to the Fortress because I decided to walk up the mini mountain and not take the tram up it. But it was worth it because it was a cold day and that kept me warm, as well as it did kill about 45 minutes of my day. Then, when I got up there it felt like a ghosttown because no one was around. I think i was the first person there. well, I walked around...I did all the little tours and read everything that I could that was written in English. But it was really interesting. It told all
Wintertime
Pretty isn't is? about the history of Salzburg and the Military. Salzburg in the old, old days was its own country, it's own little republic with its own little monarchy, bishops and military. It was pretty cool. After a stop by the resident pub and gift shop I then hiked my way down and walked around Salzburg. It was really cool in the fortress because I climbed the Tower and had a great view...well actually everywhere in the fortress had a great view. I walked around Salzburg. And i saw men playing a game of chess with life-size pawns and kings and things. I also walked around the city and saw many different Cathedrals. There sure were a lot of them. There were also many little shops to look at. I walked around the city some more. The city is actually quite small and i was able to walk about 4 or 5 different times. Eventually i got so cold that I began walking in to shops and buying things just to keep warm I got a really nice bag/purse for only 7 euro!!! Really nice. I went to Mozart's Birthplace and then to a great cafe and had chocolate cake and expresso!!!
Austrian House
I love the houses here...heck I just love everything about Austria! My fave combination! i then found a really adorable housing store and i wanted to buy everything in it! I walked across the bridge and around the other side of the city. I found my way to some food stores for lunch and get food for dinner and what not. Around 3 pm I was really cold and sick of walking so I found my way to the best internet cafe in the world. They had an amazing hazelnut flavored coffee!!! I walked in and Joe Diffy's Red Neck Yacht Club was on the radio. The music they were playing was modern country and it was funny because i think i was the only person to understand the songs...it was great! At about 430 I left the cafe and walked to the train station. I was bored and cold and still had 2.5 hours left until my train, so I went to Burger King and had some dinner but I stayed there until about 630 and then went to find the platform for my train. It was really cold so I went to the Newsstand, but they didn't have much in English, so then I went to the waiting room
Picturesque
This would be really cool, if the ad on the barn wasn't inappropriate and just sat there and waited until my train arrived. It was easy to know because the waiting room was right there by my platform, so i just waited until i saw the train pull into the station to get on...and then I was done with Austria.
