So staying an extra 2 nights turned into an extra 4 nights. I just couldn't leave. Boxing Day (continued): Scott met up with me and we went to Sundowners bar across the street for "one drink" before the party. He got chatting and I got chatting and we ended up staying for about 3 drinks. I met an amazing guy named Garnot. His mother is from Costa Rica and his Dad from Germany. He was raised in Costa Rica. Both his parents have passed away and he now lives with his 2 sisters and 2 brothers in Miami. He just finished school for (I believe) some sort of architectural planning. He and his siblings have this tradition of being somewhere new every year at Christmas. We had a really great chat. The best part was chatting ... read more

Almost all of my entries have been positive and up beat, so I apologize in advance for this one. I was very sad about leaving Honduras and no matter how I tried, I couldn't put a spin on it. I had planned to stay in Honduras for a couple years, if not more. And I've never been a person to walk away from a job, especially one I love. Unfortunately, however, with distance during family illnesses, personal safety concerns and dealing with a school administration that does not value their teachers or students, I had to reconsider where I was needed most. I know it was one of the most difficult decisions made during my relatively short life thus far. Ultimately, I was offered a job working with working with children and families back in ... read more

So today wasn't the greatest day. After lunch my kids were supposed to have music class. Apparently the music teacher was not there today, so one of the counsellors (who is actually only about 20 years old) gave my kids a worksheet to colour and then took off and left them unattended. I had NO idea any of this was happening. I came back to my class for the 2nd last period of the day, to find half of them missing, half of them running around the class, and one crying because someone else kicked them. I was in the middle of giving a lecture about respect when one student started talking to their neighbour and another was trying to tell me something without raising her hand (WHILE I WAS TALKING!). I then caught 2 students ... read more

So I was REALLY excited to go things in my class this week after an awesome weekend at the conference last weekend. Things didn't quite go as planned. My new seating plan DID work though. Students aren't out of their seats as much, as they can all see eachother in the horseshoe, and I can see them all. My students, however, feel that they can be disrespectful to everyone. Here are some things that they did this week to contribute to my frustration: - talking while I am talking - talking while their classmates are talking - talking while they should be doing work - fooling around in class - not handing in homework - not following directions - not reading instructions - pushing each other - taking things out of my cupboard that has MY ... read more

Répétition générale ... read more

I love spending time with my students outside of class. Tuesday, I was supposed to be tutoring French, but Angie and Gelda were sick, and Carmen never showed up. Carmen from MY class did show up though just to play and hang out with Sthephany and I. We ended up not doing French (since the other girls would then be behind) and did face masks instead. The girls loved it and we had a good time. The funniest part was that when Carmen and I were washing off our faces (Sthephany was already done) Sthephany asks me for my e-mail address. I ask her why, and come out of the bathroom to see her filling out some online dating profile for me. Apparently she clicked on the ad that came up beside her e-mail account for ... read more
