I'm a guy who has nothing planned for my trip except im landing in guatemala city, then straight to belize, after that I'll be going south ending in Panama City. I would love some recommendations of ways to travel between the countries. (if you know any cool places to stay, that would also be appreciated) Reply to this

Hi, I'm basically doing the same thing, but the other way round- I've travelled mainly by chicken bus, simply because I love it! I'm currrently in Guatemala, but I'm planning to get to Belize by boat. It really depends on what you want out of your trip, some people can't be bothered with the bus and end up flying if they have a long distance to cover, others use Tica buses (they link all the capitals), and others chicken bus it all the way! It really is up to you!
Cool places to stay- I've just been in a hostel called Mama's y Papa's in Tacuba, El Salvador, and loved it there. I found Perquin great, but don't expect too much out of the accomodation there! On Little Corn Island, Nicaragua, Elsa's is a fun place to stay if you don't mind uninvited guests such as wild cats/ crabs/ cockroaches. In Copan, Honduras, Moise's Hostel (that's the name as I remember it, I might be very wrong!), opposite the more expensive (and often full) Cafe ViaVia, is another nice place to stay. There have been others, but I can't remember them all right now!
Have a great trip! Reply to this

I did it all by chicken bus and boat ... except for one overnight stint on the Tica bus (the chicken buses don't run at night). Carl - I did the boat across from Belize, to Livingston, Guatemala ... easy enough to sort out when you get there. The LP has the prices.

Sophie - How good is Elsa's?! Little Corn is definitely one of my favourite spots in the world! Reply to this
