We left La Fortuna on Sunday with great sadness, our cabina there was fantastic and we felt like we were part of the family. Rain starts now! We´ve had excellent weather until today, it´s currently raining but we´re going to make the best of it by lounging around in our hammocks, drinking coffee, reading books, napping by the ocean and maybe going to Bed Bath and Beyond, I don´t know if we´ll have enough time. Not too bad for a Tuesday afternoon! Puerto Viejo is on the south Caribbean side, just 20 miles north of Panama. There´s definitely an Afro-Caribbean vibe going on here. Our hotel here is wonderful! It´s right on the beach and the staff is awesome. There´s a fully stocked beer fridge open to all guest that works on the honor system, how ... read more

I´ve never been to Costa Rica during the rainy season before and now I know why. The rain stopped for five minutes my first morning in Puerto Viejo...long enough for Wendy, Leah and myself to have coffee on the beach. The beach is just a few steps out Wendy´s front door and they have coffee on their favorite log every day. By the time we headed back into the house, the rain began again and did not quit once during the entire rest of my stay. I´m not exaggerating when I tell you the clouds opened up and literally poured buckets of water on us! I was completely unprepared for the amount of water with which I was confronted. I had only one pair of sandals with me and the trek into town each day (about ... read more

Well, what a great way to end my holiday in Costa Rica. On Saturday we got the bus down to Puerto Viejo on the caribbean coast. It is every bit how you think it should be, palm trees, beautiful weather, people riding on bikes and a general relaxed and non hurried vibe going on. We stayed at the infamous ¨"Rocking J´s" hostel on our first night in a tent and although cheap and hassle free we both decided that we weren´t 18 anymore and wanted to live it up a little for our last few nights. The next day we found a really lovely cabina with a beach view and our own little patio and hammock. It was really nice and great for relaxing, I think our hostel days are over!!! Yesterday we hired bikes and ... read more

Hi All, This entry has one purpose and that is purely to make you all jealous. We are still on the caribbean coast of Costa Rica and the bad weather associated with hurricane Dean has past us by, let me tell you how we are spending our time...... We awoke yesterday morning in our tree house like room on the top of the hotel, due to the weather being so agreeable there is no need for windows and the walls were only chest height so in all directions we could see the beautiful blue sky. After lolling around for a while we got up and made our way down to the beach (one street away) for breakfast. We sat in a cute little cafe and had croissants (selection of ham and cheese, jam or chocolate) and ... read more

After Bens bag and passport was stolen in Ecuador he had to fly down to peru to sort it all out. I had to find somewhere to wait for him for a week and unfortunatly I just had to spend the week lazing around in the warm water on the caribbean coast of Costa Rica. Walking down the dirt streets lined with coconut palms and market stalls selling anything that resembled Bob marley It felt like I was in Jamaica. The place was filled with Black caribbean locals most of who had long Rustas (dreadlocks) Nothing moved very fast in this town, It was very chilled out. A nice place to relax after all our travels in South America. It was a little holiday from my holiday! I slept in a hammock instead of a bed ... read more

Hi everyone, firstly thanks very much to everyone who has been sending us messages and posting comments, it has been great to hear from you all! Nice to know what's going on at home too! Quite a lot has happened since the last time we wrote, which was on our first day in Cahuita on the caribbean coast of Costa Rica. Luckily the day after we wrote the weather did clear up, and we had our first scorching hot day of caribbean sun, yay! We decided to have a bit of a relaxing day on the beach, but unfortunately ended up as the typical brits do.... totally sunburnt! Even being covered head to toe in factor 30 didn't seem to help, and after just two hours we had transformed into nice pink lobsters. Think there ... read more

Cath: Well we have spent our last few days back on the Caribbean coast at a little town called Puerto Viejo. I had my cast off and the xray looks good. I have been back to San Jose a few times for some harsh physio that made my eyes water - painful but necessary. Its a bit better each day..... although I'm told it will be 3-6 months before its 100% straight..... still, little victories like using a knife, opening doors, typing with two hands are all important! We have not been too adventurous with our days other than visiting some lovely beaches, checking out more wildlife, dodging torrential downpours, and trying to convince ourselves we have seen toucans. We have eaten very well here and found our favourite hangouts. My favourite being a cafe ... read more

Kaere Allesammen! Taenkte, at det var rimeligt med en ganske kort(yeah right, Nynne) hilsen her fra Puerto Viejo, foer det hele ligesom...lakker mod enden...agtigt. Argh. Ellers gaar livet sin ... read more

"Hva´saa Danmark? Her er endnu een..."

After spending the week in San Jose, I was definitely ready for a little change of scenery last Friday. Although San Jose is a little more relaxed than the cities I'm used to at home, it's still a city nevertheless, and the giant plumes of black smoke from the buses were starting to get to me.... The 4 1/2 hour bus ride to Puerto Viejo on the Caribbean coast was made so much better by all there was to see: misty mountainous rainforests, banana plantations, and beaches to name a few. The town itself is tiny and the locals seem to know everyone they pass. Surfers, hippies, Rastas, Bob Marley and tourists fill the place, making it seem more like Jamaica than Costa Rica. We went to at least 4 restaurants/businesses in less than 48 ... read more
