Well, Gentle Readers...where are we now?....still in Costa Rico and, as usual, feeling a whole lot better about these places once I've spent a couple of days...same old misconceptions, preconceptions etc etc ...so, we headed off to Playa Naranjas, a couple of hundred kms I think, roads were average, which means v good for CR, along lots of roads up to here I've been seeing gangs of guys with machetes slashing the grass at the side of the road..even right out in the middle of nowhere...but here in CR the grass grows right up to the edge of the bitumen and plants and trees have branches right up to the edge...and over...so a lot of the time its like riding thru a tunnel...I'm not normally claustro but this got intense and kept me on my toes..and ... read more

Good morning all. 6 days until i´m back in the states on August 15th. The power just went out here while i was finishing up my blog, so i lost it all, and now i´m just gonna summarize what i had written before. Friday night went to a bar called "VYRUS" with my family and some friends. One guy´s name was wally. Wally made me do shots of whiskey with him. After bar, went to wally´s pad and sang spanish kareoke, it was awkward. Didn´t get to bed until 2 am. Got up at 4 am to go to limon. Limon was full of swedes and german travelers for the weekend. its like a whole different country. they don´t speak english there. Its some combination of spanish/french/and english called patwau?... Lots of ex-patriots as well, who ... read more

Last weekend we took a 6-7 hour leisurely drive to Puerto Viejo on the Carribean side. Me Encanta!!!!! I love that place. Everything is slow and tranquil. The colors are brilliant and the tourism does not seem so overwhelming as in Manuel Antonio. The ocean is blue and the water is completely clear. I reintroduced myself to Scuba diving after having a fear of it after I first became certified. Pura Vida. Entonces, I swallowed that fear and took a quick refresher and made a beach dive there. We rented a small 4x4 Daihatsu Terio and drove there with 5 people. It was a little intimate. We thought we would be able to somehow get A/C when we arrived but soon realized that 5 person room wouldn't accomodate our us. That is life. we laid out ... read more

Church was interesting. It´s beautiful inside, with chandeliers and frescoes on the wall. It is not like the traditional Catholic environment. A random street dog ran back and forth through the church a couple of times…only in Costa Rica. Yes, they took the sacrament and the priest gave the homily. We even knelt to pray. But it was also mixed with a more laid-back contemporary feel. The music was amazing. They played classical and acoustic guitars. I loved listening to their songs, because it was bright and uplifting. It mad me smile. Sadly, the only part I could join in was the “Alleluias.” I felt like Mr. Bean. Jaja, not really. It was almost comical, when the family squeezed into the row. It was the dad, the mom, me, Mati, and Jorge (su novio). In a ... read more
