We got a little bit if a sleep in today. We got up at about 8:30am, got ready and headed out for some breakfast. We ended up at McDonald's (hotcakes, hash brown and an iced Milo). Walked around the Bugis Mall for a while as they weren't open and didn't open til 10:30am. On the way back to the hotel we stopped in at a pet shop and saw a real hamster and chinchilla!! Weird things. Unfortunately there was great big signs saying 'No Photos' Boooo!. We went back to the hotel and decided it was time to tackle the MRT, the Singapore Rail Network. We worked out where we were and where we wanted ... read more

Asia » Singapore » Singapore Zoo October 13th 2013

Today started early with our trip to Singapore Zoo. We were to meet in the lobby at 8:00am to be driven the 35 minutes out to Singapore Zoo. We got there and was greeted with a fantastic buffet breakfast. Then the Orangutans came out and we were able to go and have our photos with them. While in line they also had a big snake that you could have placed on you shoulders to get a photo. After breakfast we made our way around the park, starting with the Polar Bear. In the water he looked happy but when he got out he looked sad and highly annoyed at everything. His fur was missing in places and what was there looked really manky. This part of the zoo was depressing; it's too hot in Singapore for ... read more

Rebecca arrived at my house just before 12:30am. As this was the first time we's met we sat and talked for a bit before jumping in the car bound for the airport. We had booked our parking online and parked in the long term carpark and hopped on the bus bound for the international terminal. We had already checked-in online so just dropped our bags at Airasia drop-off area and went for some early morning McDonalds (2:00am) and a went for a walk before making our way through the doors. I was the one who was explosive tested (as always) and put in the whiz bang full body X-ray machine before making our way through customs and into the duty free shop before discovering the massage chairs. We put in our $2 in and sat there ... read more

Asia » Vietnam July 2nd 2012

Though I enjoyed my time in Vietnam, most of it I probably wouldn't return to. Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh are, for me personally, just too busy. They're dirty, noisy and over crowded BUT that may work for others. Just not for me. The Cu Chi Tunnels was definately something everyone should do. It's eye opening that's for sure. I loved Hoi An and would definately go back there. Not only for the amazing tailor work I had done at Yaly Couture Tailors (Thankyou Nancy, you are the best) but because it's smaller, friendlier and close to two stunning beaches. If you are there make sure you visit Mermaid Restaurant, lovely food. Hue was a bit nicer than HCMC and Hanoi but still not the best. Halong Bay was amazing and I would return there. It ... read more

Today was an early start, our last day of the trip and completely full of flights. We were up just before 6:00am to get ready and finish packing our stuff making sure nothing was left behind. We made our way down to level 1 for breakfast and checked out. While waiting in the lobby for our driver the reception man came over to us to say that the driver had called him and said he would be 10-15mins late as the traffic was rubbish because it was still raining outside. It wasn't really an issue as this flight was only domestic from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City. ... read more

Woke up just before 9:00am today as to make sure we didnt miss pur included breakfast. After breakfast we we t up to get ready and walke up the road to the bottleshop that we had walked past a few days earlier. When we had gone through customs from Melbourne to Ho Chi Minh the guy told us to buy our alcohol here and bring it back because it's heaps cheaper. So we did. I bought a bottle of Grey Goose Vodka which at home would be $65 for only $25. We then walked back to the hotel to drop that off, used the wifi in the lobby then decided as rain ... read more

Today was great. After my very late sleep time we didn't wake up until after 10:00am and it was great because everyone from the tour had now gone home and we didn't have anywhere to be. So we chucked on the telly and watched 'Something Borrowed' before eventually dragging ourselves out of bed only to go and sit by the pool at the Hilton Hotel, seems we hadn't yesterday. We got to the pool by just before midday. We paid our money to use it and sat by it for hours, it was really overcast so no real danger of getting too burnt. We were by the pool until just before 4:00pm when we decided to walk back to the hotel. It had cooled a little, still very hot but much more bearable. We stopped at ... read more

Woke at 7:00am but went back to sleep until my alarm went off at 9:00am, got ready and headed down to meet the other girls for breakfast. After breakfast we grabbed our stuff and jumped in a cab bound for the French Quarter. We got out outside the Opera house, took a photo and walked in the direction of the Womans Museum. We stopped for icecream onthe way at 100% New Zealand Icecream; how I've missed Hokey Pokey Icecream. We finally found the Womans Museum and boy was it a relief to get inside with some air conditioning. The museum was interesting, it showed the lives of the woman on the streets, how they come into Hanoi from surrounding areas to make miney for their kids to go to school. And the women in the war ... read more

I was up early this morning as I woke at 5:17am and realised that the sun would be rising shortly so I got up. And it was so worth it. The sunrise was amazing, and there was no noise apart from the birds and beetles. And there was even some blue sky which was something we hadn't seen yet on the bay. Breakfast wasn't until 7:30am so myself, Jess, John and Gene just sat and enjoyed the serenity until the others got up in time for breakfast. Breakfast consisted on toast, eggs and fruit and tea and coffee. After breakfast I had a quick shower, packed up my stuff and sat on the deck until we pulled into the wharf at about 9:30am. Then it was the 4hr drive back to Hanoi.... read more

We started early this morning as we were getting picked up at 7:00am for our drive to Halong Bay. On the way we stopped at a restaurant called Koto. It's basically the same as Jamie Oliver's Fifteen Restauant where they take the Vietnamese kids off the street and teach them cooking and life skills etc. The breakfast was delicious; it was buffet style and they had everything. Pancakes, banana bread, bacon, hashbrowns, fruit, cereal, yoghurt, and many other things. After, we jumped on the bus and our new local guide joined us, his name Mr Bac. We drove for about 2hours before stopping at a pottery making yard. We saw them making various size pots and also got to paint a plate of our own. We didn't get to keep ... read more
