Bags to coach was at 7:20am so early get up. Today we were driving from Innsbruck to Venice, Italy. We stopped off about 3hours into the driving at a roadside stop for an early lunch as after that we got to the mainland Pport at about 1:00pm for our boat across to old town Venice. The boat road was only about 30minutes. When we arrived at the absolutely stunning Venice old town we made our way past the Bridge of Sighs (which unfortunately is being restored at the moment) and in to Piazza San Marco. Here we met up with our sound man, who fitted us with headsets for our walking tour of Venice. A few minutes later our tour guide arrived. She was the best tour guide I've had for anything. She was French and ... read more

Europe August 15th 2011

An early start this morning as there was a lot to do. We drove for about an hour and a half before our first stop in Vadaz, the capital of Liechtenstein. We had about 45minutes here, enough time to have a walk around and get a hot chocolate before boarding the bus again for our drive to Tyrol, Austria. Some of the group spent a good 2.5-3 hours doing white water rafting which i declined as I'd already done it in USA and also i like living. So those of us that didn't do us spent that time getting the most delicious lunch at a little restaurant down the road. There was only 25 of the 51 people doing it so there was plenty of people to hang with that also didn't do it. When they ... read more

We got a bit of a sleep in today (thank goodness) as on a Sunday things don't open until 10:00am, if at all. We caught the bus into town paid for by contiki. Leona first took us on a brief walk round the town, across a few stunning bridges to the lion monument. After this we headed to Harry's. Harry is about the only thing that is open here on a Sunday other than the supermarket. He sells all the Swiss army knives, Swiss watches etc. A lot of people bought up big here as in comparison to home it was really cheap and they did engraving on things too. After there we had some free time so Mary and I went for a walk around the very, very pretty city. It' stunning. Old buildings, all ... read more

We were up this morning kind of early; bags to coach was at 9:00am so we got in some breakfast first. We drove for a bit before a quick stop off for a bathroom and snacks stop. Then we were on the road again for about another hour and a half before arriving at the Germany/Switzerland border. Leona and Derek jumped off briefly to pay some German road tax then we drove for about another 10minutes before our 30minute lunch stop; this was when we discovered how bloody expensive Switzerland was. For example, a not overly large plate of lasagne was 17CHF... which equals about $21AUS...I kid you not. Such a joke. After the shock of our lives we drove for abit longer before arriving at the base of Mt Pilatus. This is the home of ... read more

We had to be up and ready by 8:15am for our drive from Amsterdam to Rhine Valley, Germany. I slept most of the drive, thank goodness for the window and my travel pillow. We stopped at one place just after we crossed the border into Germany. After that we kept driving through until we reached St Goar. Here we had a little free time before we had a quick talk to at one of the shops about beer steins and how they are made etc. Then we had some more free time before we had to board another cruise to head down the Rhine River. It was a nice relaxing way to spend an hour of the afternoon after such a crazy couple of days. The scenery was beautiful. After the cruise we headed to out ... read more

We got up and felt like rubbish; it may have been the booze, it may have been the space cake it may have been just a lack of sleep as we'd got back at about 3:30am and we had to be up and ready and breakfasted by 8:15am as we were being shuttled in to town to get dropped off early so we could beat the queue to see Anne Frank's house. Her real house. Its been turned into a museum now, and its very well layed out. You actually get to go though the house and room by room find out bots and pieces of the story and it has photos etc all the way through. After the museum we made our way on a tram down to the Heiniken Brewery. Though I dont drink ... read more

We got up early at 6:00am as we had to pack up our stuff and get ready before we headed down to the lobby to meet our new Contiki Group. As we flew in late to London we didn't get to our contiki meeting last night. It is a big group, 51 people and mostly a bit older, not full of 18year olds which was nice. We had a brief talking to by a contiki london contact before they took us in to weigh our bags, they had to be under 20kgs. They did this with 51 pople, some were over, most were fine. Next the checked our contact details then sent us out to our coach, our new home for the next 16days. Our tour manager is lovely. Her name is Leona, she's been doing ... read more

We started a tad later today as I was feeling under the weather and it we weren't really in a hurry to get anywhere. We got up, showered and caught the metro to Syntagma Square to meet Sharnez. We decided to head in search of a department store called Attica that we'd read about. It was basically like a David Jones style deparment store, really over priced but I managed to find a lovely pair of Benneton sandels for only 16euro. We got over this pretty quickly so we moved back to Syntagma square back past the strip of shops and toward the flea markets. We went in a few souviener and bought some pieces then headed for some lunch. We stopped at a little cafe. It was stinking hot by this point, unbearable. As i'd ... read more

We got our wake up call at 6:30am to quickly get ready and get to have breakfast as we had to be ready to get off the ship when it docked at 7:15am. We met in the theatre for our call over the loud speaker to get off and we met Ali on the dock where she had gathered all our bags in one area. We jumped on a bus to be taken to various destinations around the city; ours was to a tour company as there was about 9 of us doing a tour of Athens which Ali had organised for us. We got dropped there, very briefly said our goodbyes as we got off the bus and waited to be pointed in the right direction. We were able to take our luggage on the ... read more

We woke in a terrible way. Not so much from the alcohol because, touch wood at the moment we can well and truely handle it, it was more from the absolute serious lack of sleep. We dragged ourselves out of bed, put on minimal makeup and made our way out to Crete at about 9:30am. we skipped breakfast as we had to be back on the ship no later than 11:00am. We walked for a bit (on the way getting some breakfast) before arriving in the main shopping strip of the city. Not a lot going on, just more souvenier shops. We made our way up further past a lovely church and up to th fountain in the middle. Made a quick photostop there then continued up to the markets, which again, not so impressive. So ... read more
