Europe August 6th 2011

We met Ali in the Theatre at 8:30am for her to walk us from the ship to the Turkish Bath. The Turkish Bath was interesting. Firstly we all got in our bathers and made our way in this big marble sauna thing where we all sat, awkwardly for about 5minutes before someone suggested an icebreaker. We went round saying our full names, favour colour and whether you were single/taken etc. It was abit lame but it took away the awkwardness. We were sitting in this sauna for about 15minutes before the this big fat, hairy, sweaty guy in a towel came in and told us to come out and the poured water over us then we went through (this was in a group) and we layed on a marble bench where he used this exfoliator glove ... read more

We were up and packed by 11:00am check-out and even made it down in time for breakfast. We all dumped our things in the lobby and I headed out to see by the pool with the four American girls. We layed in the sun for ages before we decided to collect a few others and head down the road about 300m to a tavern which is actually owned by the people the own the hotel we were staying in. We had some lovely meals; I stuck to the chicken salad to keep it light but some of the pastas and fish dishes that others got looked amazing. After we headed back to the hotel for some more time in the sun, a play on the net and some chitchat before it was time to get out ... read more

Woke up at about 7:45am as I coulnd't sleep; in comparison that sleep I'd just had was a lot from the rest of the trip anyway. Mary and I went down and had our buffet breakfast again where we met up with Sharnex and Andrea. They were filling us in onthe drama that had happened when they left the beach party and we stayed. There aare two trouble maker guys in our group that poeple had already gotten over them the other nights at the clubs. Two meat heads who think that because they are on holidays can do whatever the hell they want. So, apparently as the group was heading out of the beach to the bus these idiots somehow got on to a quad bike that was in the carpark that had the keys ... read more

Happy Birthday Me! We wanted to not get up too early but also made it down in time for breakfast. It was a great breakfast; Contiki breakfast does equal a buffet so it couldn't be missed. We had that then Got ready to lay by the pool and get some sun before we were to head off to our beach party at Paradise Beach. The bus left at 3:30pm and took us about 25 or so minutes to get there. When we arrived we found ourselves in what almost felt like it was out of a movie or something. Guys shirtless and bikini clad girls everywhere and everyone looked hot. We grabbed drinks and made our way to some tables already taken over by some other Contikians. We sat having a few drinks before Andrea and I ... read more

Europe August 2nd 2011

So we woke and hour and a half after getting to bed to not only my alarm but the wakeup call from Ali. Struggletown - population Mary and I. We were so tired, threw myself in to the shower to try and wake up. It actually did a pretty good job and i wasn't feeling too bad at all, considering. We finished packing our things and made our way down to the restaurant for breakfast just after 5:30am. I just got a piece of toast with ham and cheest and some juice. They have little breakfast sizes tubs of a nutella type spread so we took a couple of those for our ferry trip. We met in the lobby, checked-out and walked for about 5minutes to meet the Contiki bus to get a ferry at the ... read more

Europe August 1st 2011

Today started early as I got a text at 6:40am from Sharnez to see if we were okay because we hadn't got to the hotel and she'd got our message on facebook. We dragged ourselves out of bed, showered, and had our included breakfast; it was amazing. There was cereals, bread, tea, coffee, croissants, fruit and yoghurt and sqeezed-in-front-of-you orange juice. Delish. Mary went up to finish packing up her things and getting ready and i ventured up to Syntagma Station to meet up with Sharnez. While I was waiting I was sitting on the side of a fountain outside parliament house in Syntagma Square. It was already quite hot, up in the 30's. I was entertaining myself watching the stray dog walking around; all of a sudden it jumped up on the side of the ... read more

Woke this morning at about 5:30am as the sun was just starting to hit the window. Took some photos of the very beautiful sunrise then went back to sleep until about 7:45am when i got up and decided to shower and pack up the rest of my stuff. I got to take my time this way and now be rushed come check-out time at 11:00am. I made sure i had all my batteries for my cameras charged then made my way down to the lobby to use the net.. but it wasn't working so sat in the hotel lobby 'people watching' until Mary showed up. The Royal National Hotel where we are staying is extremely busy. People coming and going all the time. It is commonly the 'Contiki Hotel' as this is where they all leave ... read more

After getting to bed at about 3:00am I couldn't sleep, probably from being over tired so was waking up on and off from about 6:45am and the sun was shining through the window, so that wasn't helping me either. And, because of that the room had warmed up enormously so was kind of waking up almost in sweats. Moving on. I had a quick shower and Mary attempted a run, I got ready and headed down to the lobby to use the internet and Mary met me there so we could head in for our included breakfast. Toast with strawberry jam, fruit and juice. Mary headed up to shower and get ready and I stayed in the lobby until I broke the internet on my phone. I headed up then Carl messaged to say that he ... read more

After some very welcome, comfortable sleep in a real bed we woke, showered, put back on the same clothes from the previous day and made our way down to breakfast with dripping wet hair as there was no hairdryer. Breakfast was included in our hotel accomodation but it was all a bit heavy for my liking at 8:00am. So I managed to find some toast, super hard butter, spam and egg and made my version of a bacon and egg mcmuffin. It surficed. We had some time to spare so made our way back to the room to type my blogs and for Mary to send some emails. FYI, a little fact about China, you can't get Facebook here..."What?!" I hear you cry, I know, me too. It's blocked / banned for some reason. So that ... read more

The day started early. After only drifting in and out of sleep between 1:00am and 5:00am it was time to get up, finish packing, have a shower, breakfast and head of to Melbourne Airport. We stopped off on the way in Prahran to pick up Mary and made it to the airport just after 7:20am. We took some quick photos with our luggage then made our way to check-in, go through customs and sit around waiting at our departure gate only to realise on our ticket that we were seated separtely even though we had checked-in together. Our flight was to depart Melbourne at 10:05am but we didn't end up leaving until about 10:50am. My goodness it's a long flight, even just to get us to Shanghai, China - our first stop. It was 10 or ... read more
