Europe » Germany » Bavaria » Tegernsee August 12th 2017

Well hello everyone, and you know who you are!? Today we ventured out to two villages both being near a lake. They were very busy with all sorts of German tourists. The Tagernsee and the Schliersee (see being lake) The sun did not make an appearance, and we had a few showers but we had our trusty L L Bean raincoats that we have had for 25 years. They are still amazing. The images today were in these villages and we hope you might enjoy them. all for now Lowell... read more

Today is friday. Wake up to rain and more rain. The kind that you just want to stay in bed with the covers over your head. But that won't do, so a coffee or maybe two coffee's will get us started. So about noon or so we decide to go to the closest village to get fuel and replenish our euro (money) supply. I park near a gas station and go inside to ask where a ATM might be. There was one next door. In I go. There were two machines of which one was being used. I put my debit card in just like I had done at the airport in Frankfurt. Only this time no info on what to do next. So I try to eject my card. #%&÷*^¥€ ? NOT COMING OUT! Oh ... read more

Europe » Germany » Bavaria » Garmisch-Partenkirchen August 10th 2017

To start this out I would say "it was not the best day of our adventure" This morning we packed the car, with all our stuff including our food for the upcoming week and headed SW to Garmisch-Partenkirchen Germany. The sight of the 1935 winter olympics. Raining steadly. Traffic LOTS. Small narrow winding roads. Not a fun ride. Since we have a 6 speed manual transmission it would mean a great number of shifts while the gps tries to lure my attention all the time. So, we arrive at our destination. No one answers at the apartment. We finally find someone in a lower part of the building. Lo and behold it's our host. Who apologetically tells us she has given our accommodations away. She tries to show us another property that we could have in ... read more

Europe » Germany » Bavaria » Berchtesgaden August 8th 2017

Today's trip was to the east of where we are staying. About a 1.5 hour drive. Lots of traffic. The motorway is jammed with trucks as Europe does not make as much use of its railways to transport freight. We wanted to take the electric boat to a small church on the Konigssee (which is actually a fjord-like lake 2000' above sea level 650' deep. Said to be the cleanest lake in Germany. We only went to the chapel of St. Bartholomew's which you will see in the pictures. The mountain you see in the photo is Mt Watzman 8953' Germany 's 2nd highest mountain. We also spent a short time in the small area in the older part of Berchtesgaden. Just a few pictures there as I realized We had been there before. Today we ... read more

Hello from Germany Fine weather today for a journey into the Black Forest. We did see a lot of Dutch folk in the camping grounds. They seem to like to camp in tents and small travel trailers. Tomorrow we leave for Southern Barvaria to see some old friends who visited us in Colorado. Weather is nice about 75 and a little humid. Our trip tomorrow is about 4.5 hours depending on traffic. Most of Europe takes their holiday in Aug. We will be traveling tomorrow so probably won't have a blog always Lowell... read more

Hello again everybody, Looks like I have at least 60 subscribers this trip. Can't promise to send a blog evert day but will do what I can. Yesterday was interesting. Left Denver an hour late as they had to unload all the baggage as there were 3 bags on board but not the 3 passengers. Hmm But all went well. They wined and dined us all for free. Yeah, Lufthansa ? In Frankfurt customs went slow. Only saw one machine gun. Got our lease car and headed south. ( oh just now 8 pm the church bells are ringing) someone must have told someone we arrived. ? Thought I knew the navi (aka gps) built into the lease car,But that was not the case. LOST ! on the side of a 6 lane highway digging through ... read more
