Hello again, -- We picked a Saturday to go over to Germany. Should have waited till after the weekend. There must have been a thousand motorcycles on the roads. I should know better. It's always been that way. The difference between motorcycle riders in the States and over here is most of these guys have a "death wish"!!! They are VERY dangerous. All in all we had a fun day. Stopped in a small village (Sasbachwalden). for lunch. It was a very filling meal especially for midtag essen (Lunch). Ended up in Gengenbach (beautiful historic village) for an ice cream. And more pictures.Total miles today 208 Total images 150 Hope you like the pictures. Be sure you click on the images. They will enlarge and if you scroll down you will be able to view a ... read more

Hello all, A week ago we left Denver. It seems a long time. I guess it's always that way when you are away from your own surroundings. I think that today Gloria should put her 2 cents in, so here it comes. Driving through France and staying in someone's home are quite different in the following ways; To wake up and see the hillsides covered with grapevines, hear and see the farmers and their small tractors tending the vineyards. Is really like being there -- oh that's right I am really here! That's what France is all about 'the grape'. Red or White I wouldn't know which is best. Where we are staying the owners bought the lot next to their home to preserve their view and planted grapes on it, their grapes make white wine ... read more

Europe » France » Alsace » Riquewihr July 12th 2011

Hello everyone, IF I SENT THIS BEFORE--IGNORE IT! I see that I saved it but may have forgotten to publish it? Yesterday we re-visited some of the villages we saw in 2007. Eguisheim, Turckheim and Riquewihr. The second time is never as good as the first. But it was a nice day and we didn't want to stray too far. Today we drove across into Germany's Black Forest. It was a nice day but by afternoon it became very hot (33C) I think that may be (90+F)? At about 1:PM we stopped at a nice Gasthof in the Simonswald for lunch.A nice schnitzel with a gravy and Rosti (which is like a really great hash browns) Gloria also had a mixed salad from the buffet. When we got back we went to the market to buy ... read more

We are here! A good flight from Denver to Atlanta. A long flight from Atlanta to Zurich. Sort of "Sardines" on Delta 767, Arrived Zurich at 7:45. Took the train to Mulhouse, Fr. where Mathew picked us up. That was yesterday (Sat). I'm up this morning at 4:15- can't sleep! Making some plans for this week. Black Forest, Mercedes-Benz Plant/Museum in Stuttgart, Germany etc. Trying to find a grocery store late on Saturday was difficult. They close early and are not open on Sunday. We did just make it and got some things for a few days. Especially needed coffee. Can't start the day without it. Jet lag yesterday set in at about 2:00 pm. Nap till 4:00. Force yourself to get up or I would be up at midnight instead of 4:15 am. My GPS ... read more

North America June 28th 2011

In a little over a week we will be leaving on a 70 day adventure to France, Belgium and Switzerland. This will be the first time we have gone to Europe and not rented or leased a car. Since we are doing home exchanges we will also be doing car exchanges. Of course that means we will also have to get to our exchanges as well. So we opted for a Eurail Pass that will allow us 7 days of travel in a 2 month period. But only for 3 countries. Switzerland, France and the Benelux countries of Belgium, The Netherlands and Luxembourg. Besides that we will have a 22 day Swiss Pass allowing us unlimited travel on all the Swiss transportation system. Trains, boats, postal buses, city buses and trams. Also a 50% discount on most ... read more
