Hello everybody, Yesterday was about a 3 hour drive up from Auckland. Took us a lot more as we stopped a few times. The only larger town up here is Whangarei (about 45'000 pop.) The roads are VERY winding and hilly. Driving on the left is ok but you have to be at your best all the time. I did it in the UK but the roads were better. They have ferns here the size of trees. The vegetation is beautiful (which they call "bush") This area is called the "Bay of Islands" Discovered by Captain James Cook in 1769. The coastline is considered one of the most beautiful in the world. I will try to put a few picture on but the internet is very slow. Lowell and Gloria... read more

We are here! That was an ordeal. 26 hours. Would you believe I didnt get jet-lagged? This was our first whole day here. Got our RH drive car. Thankfully our TomTom GPS got us back to our host's home. Not without incident. It is quite hairy as the roads are windy and tight curves. Round abouts abound! We have wonderful hosts who have treated us like royalty. Tomorrow we strike out for the northland. I think I'm getting the hang of this LH driving if I can quite turning on the windshield wipers when I should be signaling, arghhhh! It is a beautiful country. The vegitation is amazing! Sending a few photos. Just getting started. Let me know is these are coming through ok. I'll do my best to bring you along as we travel the full length of NZ, seeing as far as I can tell, everything we can see and do in 3 months. Not having been there before I am relying on internet research and ... read more

Yep, All good things come to an end. Tomorrow we take the main liner up to Zurich. Our wonderful 3 week stay at Ulla"s Chalet (Hmm has a ring to it) is over. We couldn't have been more happy with the accommodations or the weather or the area. It has been one of the best 3 weeks we have ever spent in Europe. We did a train ride over to Andermatt, Switzerland just to enjoy one last ride up that valley. Blue skies, majestic mountains, Swiss cows munching up that nice green pasture land, and small alpine villages whisking by. It's a wonderful life. Sounds like a movie title eh? No I'm not Canadian! OK here are a few pictures from today. Remember, click on them to make them bigger God bless He has us, for sure ... read more

Hey, everybody, Today is our 49th wedding anniversary. What a great place to enjoy it! We got a late start but got on the train about noon. Normally we get off at Brig, Switz. but today we stayed on until Visp. Got off and said "now what" OK there's a big yellow postal bus heading to Saas Fee about 30 mi away. All uphill. We got the front seat on the right, and the road ahead was major curves and narrow. It would have been hard enough in a car no less a bus. These drivers are fantastic and fearless. Wouldn't you know, we didn't bring the video cam!! aarghh! We spent 2 hours browsing around, taking pictures, Gloria eating ice cream cones, yes one at a time! Then, Back on the bus-Gus for another thrilling ... read more

Today we decided on another try for a boat trip on Lake Thun. Our last one was sort of abbreviated as we missed the boat and only got half the lake. Today we did a round trip. About 4 1/2 hours. It was one of those "save this day in a bottle" days. So we were blessed with blue skies and warm breezes. Since we were always on the boat I won't have the variety I would like but I hope you won't be bored I wish you all could experience these mountain lakes with the azure blue waters. Time is getting short now and the weather is changing here. Another season is approaching and we must prepare to depart. I hope we will be able to do a few more blogs before we leave from ... read more
