Schlecht wetter (bad weather) We awoke to be in a cloud. But not to be deterred, took the train to Brig and then to Bern (Switzerland's Capitol) 2 hours. Spent a nice couple of hours in the old town. Lots of folks, Expensive stores etc. Saw one Rolex watch for $20k , Couldn't quite part with the moola! You got to be kidding!!! Switzerland is quite a bit over my pay grade. Would you believe a Big Mac at McDonalds is $15 ouch! Anyway my pictures were free!! Have a look Click on them to enlarge Warm wishes Lowell... read more

Hello again everybody, Today was our last day of a 3 day pass on the cable cars up high in this area. So we tried to make the most of it. The weather was good till about 4 pm, clouded up and now it's raining. We had a wonderful visit and BBQ with our neighbors in the chalet next door. There names are Casper and Monica and they are from Zurich. The chalet is their summer home. Wonderful people! We hope to stay in touch with them as we enjoyed their company a great deal! Tomorrow we may take a break from travel if it is still raining. We need it!!!! Here are some pictures. As always Lowell... read more

Hello all 62 blog watchers, Yes 9 trains. I won't go into detail like usual but that is the number of trains we got on to make our journey today. Our destination was the Eiger the Monk and the Joungfrau. The 3 large mountains in the Berner Oberland. We did a long gondola trip to a somewhat easy hike but with spectacular views. The Lauterbrunnen valley is one of the most beautiful in all of Europe. Anyone who comes to Switzerland needs to see this area. I think this is our 4th time here. I hope you enjoy these images. Believe me, my camera does not do justice to these vistas.. God bless. Lowell PS: click on the image... read more

Today we decided on a three way trip. We take the big cable car (80 persons) up to the Eggishorn to get video which we didn't get on Monday. Down the cable car to the bottom where we catch the train going down to Morel where we climb on a gondola up to where we get on a 4 person chair lift to an other area for pictures and more video. Then down to Rideralp station half way down where we hike over to Bettmeralp where we catch the cable car down to the bottom and get on the train and back to where the car is and back to the chalet. Did you get this. I hope you took notes as there will be a quiz on this when we get home. Sometime you do ... read more

This remote valley, The Lötschental, was first settled during the Roman period, but remained largely cut off from the outside world until the beginning of the twentieth century. The valley remained remote and difficult to access, especially during the winters, until the construction of the Lötschbergbahn (railway) connected it to an international railway line. It is very peaceful with very old dark wooden structures. Some images. Lowell... read more

Gloria here this time. The BEST day will really be when I get to Heaven but I am asking God right now to prepare a place like this for me. Today was the most awestruck and dumbstruck I have been since we have been here. The scenery of God's handiwork is absolutely indescribable!! The photos will not show the magnificence of these mountains and glaciers - Lowell took about 300 shots today and I wish he could post them all... We found it! I'm looking for a realtor tomorrow! I kept saying to him we have been here so many times before and why haven't we come to this area. I guess - the best is always saved for last. Lowell may not approve of this blog but those of you who really know me will ... read more

Today (Sunday) We did a train-boat trip. The train was great, the boat "not so much" We think the German speaking parts of Switzerland by far are superior in landscape as well as architecture. So for now on we will concentrate our time in that area, with the exception of a jaunt down into the Italian part (The Ticino) for one day. What a nice day, 72 and sunny. Got back at a reasonal ... read more

Did any of you catch that I sent Thursday blog after I sent Fridays ?? My bad! I thought I had published it but after careful scrutiny, I hadn't. I bet nobody noticed. Well today we didn't do much. It rained cows and horses last night and was supposed to be poor today as well. It turned out better than expected. So a small hike this afternoon. Tomorrow we do a big trip with the train and boat... read more

Hello everybody, Well it's a two for one day. This morning the weather looked quite iffy. So a short (3 1/2 hr) hike through the villages that are close to the chalet and along the Goms Hohenweg (high walking route) A few sprinkles but nothing to get us wet. I find it ok to go up with my hamstring problem but down is another matter. Hope it will get better soon.... read more
