We are now in the northern alps of Italy The Dolomites we probably went on the best hike we have done on this trip. We didn't expect it to be as long a hike as it turned out. 5 hours It was so exhilarating that we didn't want it to end. I wish you all could he been with us. All the time next to a fantastic mountain named the Odle. The track was in meadows, pine forests and had it's ups and downs. We went as far as a great mountain refugio. (A small mountain restaurant way up in the high country. The Dolomites have always been one of my favorites. Here are some photos of our hike. sincerely Lowell ps: To let you know. I'm having a problem adding images on the blog because ... read more

Hello again everyone, and to our new friend Florian. Welcome to our trip to Europe. After two days of rain and even snow on higher elevations, the clouds are parting the sun is peaking out. God again has cleaned the air and refreshed these beautiful mountains. As we say in Colorado, tomorrow we " break camp" and head for the beautiful limestone mountains of northern Italy The Dolomites. We say goodbye to one beautiful region to look to another. We will spend a week in a valley called the Val Badai. It is about a 3 to 4 hour drive. Will keep you abreast of our travels. Here are some pictures from today and a couple from before the rain. God bless LOWELL .... read more

Hello you folks This could be the last blog for a few days as the weather forcast for this region is dior. I know I've been sending quite a few mountain scenes, so maybe you are getting a little tired of those. So Gloria and I walked around the village we are staying in and I took a few of the holiday apartments around us. There is not a straight ar flat street anywhere in the village. This is pretty much an unknown region for Americans. Mostly there from Holland and Germany. So here you go till the next blog as ever Lowell... read more

This day could not have been nicer ! We thought we would stay 3 nights but have decided to stay a week. Yesterday was not a good day for me, but today I'm feeling better. We probably need to slow down some. ? There are about 6 cable car routes, so it is fun getting up high. The views are extraordinary. Hope you like the photos. Lowell... read more

Yesterday was just a moving day. This new location was very hard to get to. Multiple HAIR PIN turns (my shoulders hurt) but the village is interesting. Very complicated streets with names that are un pronouncible (is that a word?) The apartment is nice. Too bad there always up 2 flights of stairs. So here we are. Some pictures... read more

Hello again. It's me your favorite blog meister ? Where are the weeks going. And where has the month gone ? Sept. Is just on the doorstep. Today we did a high altitude hike above the valley. The day was fine but late this afternoon, big thunder and heavy rain. It was good that we were back in our apartment ? The images of the hike do not give the impression of how steep the trail was to the down side. We did not bring our hiking staffs (unfortunately) So we had to be very careful in places. Here are some photos from today Tomorrow we once again will go to the large cabin cars to the Stubaital Glacier. Oh by the way Frankie, I do not speak Austrian but I speak Australian ? Europe » Austria » Tyrol » Innsbruck August 25th 2017

Well today we took a bus to Innsbruck. I'ts not far, about 40 min. For me Innsbruck is too touristy. Bus loads of tours from all over. You will see in some of the images it gets crowded? So we did that and then escaped back to the beautiful peaceful valley we came from. We have 2 more days here. We leave Mon. but we're not sure which direction we will go. Depends on the weather. We have reservations in the Italian Dolomites on Sept 4th. There is some forcast for bad weather south of us so we will try to avoid that ? Here are some pictures from Innsbruck today. Sorry about all the building images but what can you do, your in the city ? Lowell... read more

Hello everybody it's me again ? Today we went to the end of the valley to go up the Stubaital Glacier. It was fantastic. Any picture I post would Never do it justice!! So far this week has been the best so far of the 3 weeks we have been in Europe. Our apartment is great. It is much larger than the one we had in Germany. But one of the extras we receive is the Super Stubai Card that let's us travel up all the lift systems, all the buses, and even a tram from here to Innsbruck and back. Free with this card. And also the mountain bob sled I mentioned in an earlier blog. Did you see it on you tube? Here's some images from today. Lowell... read more

Europe August 22nd 2017

Good evening all, It's 8:30 here in Austria. 3 weeks since we left from Denver. Funny about time. When your home time flys by quite rapidly. When your away on a trip it seems to crawl. I don't say that in a negative opsevation, it's just like that. ? Today was a "cracker of a day" as they would say in New Zealand. Sunny 72 degrees no wind. We took 2 lifts up in 2 parts of the valley. I will post an image map of each. Both were different. About the same elevation above the valley floor. The Elfer lift is at 1800 m and is frequented by a cadraupara-gliders. There would be no way to count them. We hiked some there but decided to decent and take another lift. The Series Lift taking us ... read more
