My friend Stephen invited me out to get Taiwanese pancakes randomly one day, so I thought, why not. He picked me up and we headed to Whyte ave to where this restaurant called Gara apparently was. (recommended by his friend Ian) We had to go down this back alley and into this weird store that had all sorts of random things. A rack of jewelry, 5 dresses for sale, fish chips, random Asain snacks, a lounge area, and at the very back was a house kitchen. We ordered our pancakes from the menu that was written in a different language and only had the titles of the foods like "golden metal" (how am I supposed to know what that means?). They came out as a little cake that was almost like two crumpets squished together with ... read more

An interesting event caught my eye as I was browsing the Internet for things to do. There was a men's rugby game going on in the south end, the B.C. Bears vs. the Edmonton wolf pack. Both teams were outstanding and I can't even start to compare them to our wimpy highschool team. I would love to be able to go back to ACS and give them advice just on things I've learned from watching that game, or better yet, bring them all to a real game! Their hits are so brutal that if I were to be playing it would terrify me to just be on the field. Unfortunately for Edmonton the B.C. Bears took the win (it was well deserved). Man do I miss rugby! Ill be cheering on my old highschool in thought ... read more

Preet came over after I was done work, and we were feeling like being adventures so went out to have some Whyte Ave fun. We started at Hudson's and met her old best friend Nick and his fiancé for her birthday! We ventured down the street to the red square, completely different from Hudson's! I met alot of Preets old friends and relatives that hang out there once and while. Nick promised us that before I leave he will take us on a motorcycle ride (he races professionally)! I am so excited :) We ended the night eating the famous Alberta donairs.... read more

I like my new job. I have never worked in a restaurant before so it is definitely a new experience. Thankfully the restaurant is trying out a new comfort food concept where you seat yourself and go up to the counter when you're ready to order. My job can be a few things. Greeting, bar tending, carrying food out to the tables, or quality checking the floor. Plow and Harvest serves delicious soups, salads, and a yummy bison meatloaf! I do have to admit it was pricey (good thing we got to taste test half the menu for free)... read more

I took the bus (after missing it twice) and found my way to 118th Ave for the Kaleido festival! I didn't even know it was going on to be honest and kinda stumbled upon it. My new friend, Reece, had invited me to watch his band, Bardic Form, preform at the Carrot Cafe, and just so happens the festival was going on, on that street! I got so lost at the bus station that ended up riding for 3 hours, getting caught up downtown, and having some guy ask "how many boyfriends ya got". But I finally found it, only catching the last song, but still heard the great tune! After Reece had packed up, we walked down the festival and saw so many cool venders and street performers. He introduced me to this funky hippy ... read more

This morning I helped Chris finish painting the rest of the deck! He took out some raspberry bushes and a few railings out and the place looked amazing! I don't mind painting in this warm weather! I looked into a volleyball league that I could possibly join, unfortunately the season goes longer than I'd be here. But, I found a solution! Drop in volleyball games starting today! I got dropped off at the recreation center and took a peek, the players warming up looked really intense and it scared first I asked Petra to just take me home. As soon as we left I felt like a coward and that I was missing out some turned around and I took a risk! That's what this year is all about right, risks, experience, and having fun! There ... read more

Even though I got the job at Plow and Harvest, I still wanted to experience what it's like to be a vacuum installer for a day! I got my grubby clothes on and hopped into the work truck and off we went! Unfortunately this wasn't a huge install, only a service call. The house we went to was huge. Their fridge was the size of two fridges combined! After Chris fiddled around with the central vac and found and solved the issues, we were off! The rest of the day we relaxed and watched the "Green Mile" before bed. I definitely like the hands on jobs more than a office job. I've been thinking alot about egging through with being a wild animal vet. It would be alot of work but hey, if you love it, ... read more

I went to work with Chris and Petra and then took the bus to Plow and Harvest for 2:30pm to have an interview for a hostess/waitress job! The girl who interviewed me, Britney, was very energetic and nice and hired me on the spot! I start on Sunday! Once that was over we went home and waited for Silvia to arrive, Petra's hairdresser! Preet, Paige, and Michelle also came to get their hair cut and dyed. I just got a trim but also went out of my usual zone and got some blonde streaks underneath! Nothing crazy like Petra, getting purple in her hair, but it still looked very nice and felt healthier! We ordered KFC that never came, and did the manger ever get an earful! Pizza was a better choice anyways so no complains ... read more

Sonny picked me up around 11 this morning to take me downtown and show me around. First off we went to a cool refurbished basement that is now a hair salon! After Sonny got his hair cut we ventured onto Manulife centre which is where a lot of successful businesses are, including Henry Singer and Holt Renfrew. Coincidentally they are across the hall from each other and sonny works in the men's and his girlfriend Leanne in Holts. I met one of Sonny's coworkers, Robbie, who was very delightful and welcoming! We then walked around downtown, seeing what there is to see, and what a sight! "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" was going on and raised over $90,000! I bet there were over 100 men running around a track in girls high heels, and strutting ... read more

This morning I tried to do the fitness challenge on Kinnect, but soup cans weren't cutting it as weights so I just jogged around the neighbourhood for half an hour! I took the bus to the store and hung out there for the rest of the day! I talked to some of my friends later that night, like Corrina on the phone for an hour and Seamus who is in Calgary! I'm excited to go meet up with him in the next few months since new both will not have seen our friends in a long time! My friend Josh is going to be in Australia the entire time I am there and we already are making plans to meet up (he's in Melbourne, I'm in Sydney) and go on adventures! I can't explain how thrilled ... read more
