Miscellany- a collection containing a variety of sorts of things (Modern Language Association (MLA): "miscellany." WordNet® 2.1. Princeton University. 23 Mar. 2007. Dictionary.com http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/miscellany. ) This blog is an example of just that- it is a collection containing snippets of all the adventures I have had in the last little while, to get you up to date before I leave the Land of the Rising Sun and head to the land of the Whingeing Pom (that's what its known as right??) As an aside, I would like to know the origin of the name the Land of the Rising Sun- I know that Nippon (the Japanese word for Japan) means rising sun, and that the flag represents this but WHY??? 500 yen for anyone who can shed some light, or sun, on this matter. Thanks to Global Warming, it is safe to say that the Japanese Winter is over, and Spring has indeed Sprung. This is not ideal for professional snowboarders (like myself) as there isnt much snow left around the place, but for flower enthusiasts all over Japan, christmas has come early. The cherry blossom is even starting, and if one has to give up snow, its nice to have cherry blossom to look at instead. Blooming Brilliant!! ... read more

For my last long weekend in Japan and for Rebekahs birthday we took a trip to Izu, the peninsula opposite to Shizuoka, and part of the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park. So here it is.... Counting Fun in Izu!!!! 1 Unexplored peninsula, home of onsens, WHITE sand beaches and rugged coastline. And begonias, apparently. 2 Tentative, shy and very naked bodies in a steaming hot onsen with a bathload of Japanese women in Shuzenji. 3 Bitter, twisted and very single girls trekking to Koibito Misaki (Sweet Lovers Point) the week before Varentines Day. At least the view of Fuji was good. 4 Hire car wheels screeching up a very steep drive to Marty Mouse Youth Hostel in Shiruhama (which nearly resulted in 4 hire care wheels reversing into a wall at the bottom of teh very steep drive ... read more

14th January 2007 Board- check, Boots- check, Bindings- check, warm clothes- check, beanie- check, bum pads- check. I was set. My board is beautiful and of course my pants coordinate with the colours on my board, which coordinates with the pattern and colours on my bag. Hey, at least I look the part. My first experience of snowboarding took place at Fuji 10 ski resort, near Narusawa at the base of Mt Fuji. (Wicked!!) Night skiing starts at 5, and is apparently better coz less people and cheaper, so this is what we did. I was scared, excited, nervous and apprehensive (do you get the picture?) but had prepared myself for frustration and total embarassment. I was told it wouldnt be easy, I was told I would hate it and want to give up, I was ... read more

End of an era December marked the arrival of something id been really looking forward to (going home for Christmas) and something i really hadnt been looking forward to, Marissa leaving. Because she came in January her contract finished in December, so she too arrived home on Christmas Eve. While Marissa and I where in the same group of friends at uni, and always had fun times, we were probably closer to others in the group than we were to each other. Now, however, I count her as one of my bestest friends and shes stuck with me forever!! We had the most amazing nine months and packed so much in, it really would not have been the same without her. Marissa was the pasta queen, the smoothie queen, the risogalo queen, my navigator (Im literally ... read more

Three years ago I came to the conclusion that New Years Eve is, in fact, overrated. I had spent one to many 31st of Decembers shivering in the rain at the Bay, listening to crappy DJ's at the Bentleys or worse still staying home coz there was nothing else worth doing. Thankfully, New Years Eve 2005 was a major improvement, with a road trip to Robe, a lively pub, lobster and great company. New Years Eve 2006 set to build on this new tradition and when I decided I was coming home for Christmas a lot of my excitement came from knowing that I would not miss out on the Robe trip. After an early start dropping Mum and Dad at the airport to fly off to Coolangata, I headed to Cherida's house to wake up ... read more

SURPRISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For all of those who have been waiting for the blog about my White Christmas in Sapporo snow boarding and roasting chestnuts on an open fire................................... ................................... Sorry, no can do. Actually I probably could make up a pretty good one, but there would be no pictures to go with it because it just did not happen. Nope instead of snowflakes and egg nog I boarded a plane (hikoki) with a big white kangaroo on the tail and headed for Christmas in Australia, and the best part was, noone knew i was coming!!! The whole devious plan started in September when I realised that because I am flying to Europe in March instead of flying home the ticket provided by my boss that had to be used to fly to Australia in March would be ... read more

I am in Japan!!! A long way from Adelaide, Australia, but here I am in Shizuoka for a year teaching at an English Kindergarten while seeing and experiencing as much of this crazy, mixed up, amazing country as I can! Howdy, How is everyone? Good, Great. I just got home from Wednesday night tuition and thank goodness its nearly the end of the year coz Ive had just about enough repeating the same thing over and over. "Its not sarada, its salad" and "my favourite food is curry and rice" not "Cullylice". Grrrrrrrr So anyway, this blog is to report on the smashingly good time had by all (thats me and Marissa) at Fuji Q Highland on Sunday. Fuji Q is one of the premier rollercoaster parks in the world, three of the coasters there have ... read more

I am in Japan!!! A long way from Adelaide, Australia, but here I am in Shizuoka for a year teaching at an English Kindergarten while seeing and experiencing as much of this crazy, mixed up, amazing country as I can! Hello faithful followers and random passers by, are you in for a treat today!!! After a request from Mum for more pictures of Autumn (aka Fall for those who are being taught English by Americans!!) leaves I braved the elements and headed out on my Public Holiday Thursday with my trusty camera and my eyes peeled. I battled savage dogs, killer spiders, and ferocious countryside but thankfully managed to make it back alive. Ok, you can all breathe a sigh of reLEAF! So here you are Mum, for all the parcels and love, its the LEAFt ... read more
