It’s Relax Times! We arrived on Phu Quoc Island with a microdot of patience left in our reserves. We’d had a spectacularly crap travel day - a series of non-existent pick-ups, missed bus connections, manhandling ferry touts, unnecessary waits, suicidal moto riders and ticket rip offs. Needless to say after a two and a half hour ferry ride, sitting top-deck with the animals, smokers and sea spray (as opposed to indoors in the air-con) we were damp, tired and happy to go with the first tout to approach us. After being on the road for almost three months, we thought we knew how things worked in Vietnam. You get off a bus, boat or train and there will be a gaggle of touts from hotels and guesthouses ready to whisk you off to their establishment. ... read more

... read more

Typisk for stedet - de er glade for familier. 20 børn og barnlige sjæle spillede. Kaotisk (specielt når ungerne i en klump spiller ... read more

Island great value, our accommodation on the beach is $20 per night for room with ensuite. Lovely place, beautiful beacn. Weirdest thing is the English guy running it comes from Berko (for our Aussie friends who don't know that is our home town in the UK). Weirder still is the fact that the year we left he moved into a house 3 doors down from where we were living when we left. Fantastic fresh fruit juices here and great food. Took a boat out snorkelling a couple of days ago, crew managed to ground the boat - hilarious watching them try and get it off the sand bar. great people but no-one speaks english which makes for interesting times. Floating fish markets are amazing and just to see how many little huts they can fit on ... read more

Boarding the tiniest plane, Martyn and I looked forward to spending some some quality beach time in the sunshine. The hotel we had booked also looked awesome from the pics we saw on the net.... La Veranda was supposed to be a french style colonial hotel on the beach. An hour later we landed on the beautiful Island of Phu Quoc, a rep from the hotel met us and another couple at the airport, and we were soon on our way to the hotel. The ride there was very bumpy, there seems to be only so much new road before it turns to a red dusty dirt track. Coming into the hotel we saw it in all it's splendor, the sun lit up it's gardens and the backdrop of the beach made it a superb destination ... read more

PHU QUOC I am writing this on the verandah of our beach front bungalow. It’s mid afternoon and has been a beautiful day in late 20’s - our 5th day on Phu Quoc Island. Our bungalow sits on white sand with just a few meters away from the waters edge. A few late sunbathers are getting massaged on white loungers, some are sleeping under the shade of the palm trees, others are swimming and fresh pineapples and watermelon are on offer for a dollar. You can hear beer can tabs cracking and European chatter in the background, all waiting to witness the pink sunset in a couple of hours before moving to the beachfront restaurant, with wine in hand, view of the beach at dusk and a plate full of great tasting food. Jealous! The 3km ... read more

So Phu Quoc was our next destination. We hadn't intended on going there but as the weather was rubbish on the coast we thought that we'd head for some sun for a fews days. I don't think that we were quite prepared for the 35C heat that we found ourselves in, but it was a nice surprise to say the least! We headed for Long Beach where there are 2 miles of guesthouses and bungalows dotted along the beachfront and found ourselves a nice bungalow for $15 a night. From the first day it was pretty much the same every day - lying by the beach, swimming, eating and drinking! The water was as clear as the Caribbean and the sand was golden white so there wasn't much to put us off. Apart from thet we ... read more

It certainly is!! Got here on the beautiful island of Phu Quoc on Friday ... and it is gorgeous. Staying at an amazing place called Mai House right on the beach. Got a little bungalow with a seaview ... treating the wife y'know to a bit of luxury ... well it is 30 quid a night! The island itself is still at the unspoilt level - not that many hotels, the beach we are on is called Long Beach... and it's pretty long as the name suggests! Had some amazing food - being an island the seafood is yummy... prawns the size of your arm! Went on a tour of the island yesterday in an old US Army jeep, and found the most amazing beach... like nothing we have ever seen before. White sand, clear water, ... read more
